  1. Congratulations on your discovery. Now go purchase a dozen bags of pumpkinseed worms, each from a different manufacturer. Hold them all up to the light at the same time and see if there is any difference in the exact same color. Continue this process using other color choices to see what happens.
  2. Same with Jackie. After she caught this one, she couldn't wait until we met up with Deb so she could tell her all about it.
  3. The last time I looked into one of these for a client, the cost for the tank was almost $6 per/gallon. You may want to leave it in the tank until the price hits $9.00+ And UST's only blow up in movies.
  4. Darn accountants all think the same!
  5. I'm not sure if she can as it clearly says that it has to be under an active CPA. Perhaps talk to a CPA in the area, or contact the licensing office.
  6. Ah, it's spelled Yooper, Eh?
  7. Sounds more fun than a rubber crutch. However, before you jump for one, try sprinkling pinches of salt all over the house to see how that works out for you.
  8. Please pass on my congratulations to your wife on both the degree and her job. Now the questions. Does her job or future advancement require her to have a CPA license? Has she read and understood all of the requirements beyond passing the CPA Exams? When I took these tests many years ago, there was a requirement to perform CPA duties under another CPA prior to cutting loose on my own. The following is a portion from the link shown below: 1. What is the experience requirement for a permit to practice? One year of accounting experience obtained through employment in government, industry, academia or public practice, providing any type of service or advice involving the use of attest or nonattest skills, all of which was verified by a CPA holding an active license to practice. http://www.ksboa.org/faq.htm I would strongly encourage your wife to read through all of the FAQ's and perhaps talk with management at her current employer for advice on whether this license would help her move up the company's management ladder. Besides that, I would suggest that she looks into going after her Master's Degree as this should be focused on management.
  9. If that edition is old enough, flip to the back and see what size blades are on Harry & Charlie's spinnerbaits. Seems like I remember that theirs where as big a Moon Pies.
  10. From ESPN, the following explanation: Seattle - Wins tie break over Detroit based on best win percentage in common games. Wins tie break over Dallas based on best win percentage in conference games. Detroit - Wins tie break over Dallas based on best win percentage in conference games.
  11. Best - Home Hardest - Everywhere Else!
  12. Cute pup. Please tell us that isn't your new bike behind him though!
  13. $2.63 in Mid Michigan yesterday, and a loaf of Aunt Millie's whole grain costs $2.39. We do have a small chain of gas stations that sell bread and milk as loss leaders, but I don't care for their brands. Francho - You could stretch that grocery budget with a bucket and a filet knife!
  14. Thanks for the description. We sure weren't gonna see a picture of him!
  15. Only because my opinion seems to upset the simple minded, I'd like to make the following statement. Just to be perfectly clear, I don’t have any problem with real scientific research and theory when it has a purpose, and even more so when the knowledge gained has an effect on my life. I do have a problem with junk science, research done for no other purpose than to turn a profit, or theories that have not gone through proper peer review. I also have no interest in any science that to me has absolutely no purpose. Because I am a somewhat skeptical person by nature, I tend to look at many of these discoveries a little more critically than some others. Over the years this has saved me untold thousands of dollars, not to mention the stress inherent with fear. If I wasn’t this way, I would have given away my soon to be worthless home back in the 1970’s before the predicted ice age buried it under a few hundred feet of glacier. I’d be moving back today because it would only be a matter of time before global warming put all of Florida under 10’ of water. In the realm of fishing, I would have been the guy with hundreds of lures across every spot of the spectrum of colors some machine told me to use. I would have driven back and forth across the lake looking for the perfect spot based on it’s “ph” level. I’d be the guys throwing my baits at the turtles that my amazing “side-finder” pointed out to me as being bass. And quite seriously, I really don’t care about the mating habits of spider monkeys, dung beetles, or the lop-eared Madagascar fruit bat. Those things only upset me when I have to help pay for it.
  16. My only advice would be to not limit your price shopping to craigslist. Check out several of the boat for sale websites such as boattrader.com and check out prices on the websites of local marinas or boat dealers. Values and prices often vary based on location in the country, so you need to check out as many sources as possible for what the market is where you live. In my honest opinion, almost everything you find on craigslist in this area is either overpriced, or in such bad shape they couldn't sell it anywhere else.
  17. Don't forget to include the fact that a number of lure manufacturers paid Dr. Hill for the marketing rights to produce entire lines of lures tied directly to this science. Fishermen were encouraged to make sure that they never left the boat ramp without lures covering every possible color combination this amazing device guided you to. I can remember several of our bass club members buying into the whole scheme. Right down to the point that when they failed to catch winning limits at a tournament, they knew that it was their poor use of science. They would ask what others caught fish on, and comment that it didn't make any sense because the miracle machine hadn't been anywhere close to those colors. I can only assume that the reason that every fisherman doesn't own one of these things today, is because we are all to stupid to use it correctly. It surely couldn't be that the science was wrong!
  18. I didn't think it was about the fish with you. I only find it sad that I am stupid enough to try to inject a little common sense into these kinds of discussions. When a subject such as "How do bass see color" comes up, a logical person would assume that it dealt with how to improve a person's chances at catching fish. Sadly, there are too many people who will take whatever science (proven or otherwise) and think they have found the one key to the big bad secret of how to catch a fish. As I posted earlier, nothing could be further from the truth. Color vision is an extremely minor factor when you consider all of the variables. If you were a real student of this crazy game of fishing, you would look even more skeptically at this so called science. Charlatans have already brought us a number of "science driven" miracles guaranteed to improve your odds of catching bass. And many gullible fisherman have bought into their schemes, giving others the incentive to come up with their own theories that they can market. This junk science is not limited to vision, and every aspect has its adherents. I'm sure that it is only a matter of time before we see another thread titled "How Do Bass Smell"! Perhaps the subject of "How Do Bass Chew" is the missing key! So I apologize profusely that my comment that color vision isn't as important as you have deemed it to be upset you so greatly. I should have known better, that other people's opinions shouldn't be allowed to cloud your vision.
  19. Exactly where an archaic system puts them. If OSU didn't do a good enough selling the idea that the Big10 something more than what the other conferences say they are, then they do not deserve to be considered for even the current ranking they are sitting at. The current system has nothing to do with a won-loss record against schools with similar goals, and everything to do with public relations.
  20. It's much more complicated than that. Pricing? The countries that make up OPEC are crucial to the pricing of crude oil if for no other reason than they are currently producing way more of the stuff than everyone else. They can do so either by the volume of their production, or by banding together to sell at a specific price. Import/Export? Crude oil bounces back and forth across borders everywhere. Most Alaskan crude is loaded aboard ships bound for foreign countries, and much of the oil refined along the gulf coast comes from other countries. Jobs/Economy? Yup, lower crude oil prices will slow down the incentive for oil companies (mostly internationally owned) to explore, drill for, or pump from, reserves in this country. This has a negative impact on those workers in those fields, as well as cuts down the royalty income paid to the people who own the land above those reserves. However, these people are in the minority. The vast majority of people in this country will see big savings in the driving and home heating costs. Those savings will most likely be spent on other things and those segments of the economy will thrive because of it. The Bottom Line? In my opinion, we will eventually see an increase in crude oil prices which will lead to more expensive fuel costs. Most of the countries in OPEC rely on the revenues generated from the export of oil. When their cash flow dries up, they will once again cut production and drive the price back to a level where they can afford to operate their own economies. In the meantime, be happy with the extra cash in your wallet, and know that some of the governments that don't really like us are the ones really feeling the pinch.
  21. Looks like a great chance to have a side bet on who is the most committed. Or perhaps should be!
  22. With the evidence piling up, I'm starting to think the victim should have jumped on the Bill Cosby bandwagon!
  23. Sadly, I don't think it will last. At some point, it will not be cost efficient for the oil companies to keep the pumps running, let alone continued drilling.
  24. I have no ideas what current prices are right now as I haven't been out in a week. I do know that we pay road/sales taxes on fuel of around $0.25 per/gallon now. That's subject to change as the folks in Lansing are going through the gyrations needed to generate a few more billion to put into filling chuck holes.
  25. That's why I stick to topwaters. Less chopping and the same results!
