  1. Walleyes will bite on a number of bass type baits. My favorite crankbaits for walleye include all of the stickbaits like Rapalas, Bomber Long A's, Rattlin' Rouges, and such. In diving crankbaits, Hot-n-Tots, Wiggle Warts, Rapala ShadRaps, are some of my top producers. Ball or Darter head jigs with 3" - 5" grubs work well. In-Line spinners and some spoons work too. As for "slow spinner-crawling rigs", better known as either crawler harnesses or simply meat rigs are meant for life night crawlers. It's probably the number one way for trolling even though it is slower than dragging crankbaits. There are times when you can use a plastic worm on these rigs like a Berkley Power Crawler in place of live bait. Hope this helps.
  2. You have to remember that some of us older folks remember when they had a rifle that looked a lot like this, and it had a selection switch to full auto. There was no need for a scope, just more magazines!
  3. So the kid emails this picture of the newest tool, and I emailed him right back. While it's too late for Father's Day..... Christmas is right around the corner. Hopefully, I'll have my new DeWalt nail driver sitting under the tree this year.
  4. Nope! They will get hired into an IT security job that pays three times what any of us make. This in turn will only fuel the next wave of kids to try their hand at the same tactics...... or worse! But keep up the good thoughts.
  5. I'll cough one up. Gun Lake - South of Grand Rapids, Michigan. The "Sand-Suck Holes" And yes, I've got a map that actually names them that.
  6. After going through this whole thread, I'm going back to the start and head in a completely different direction if that's okay. Taking into consideration that your son is going to need further assistance, your stepdaughter is basically already in debt and now needs more help, and finally, you have upcoming obligations that all this cosigning could have an adverse impact on...... FIND A REPUTABLE CREDIT COUNSELOR.... AND GO! Whatever this is going to cost you, it would be money well spent. A good counselor can look at all of the variables in your financial life, and can give you options for the future that most people wouldn't think about. Consider it your tuition.
  7. The Riley's Memorial is an annual tournament held on the Martiny Chain of lakes. Headquarters for it is located on Boom Lake at what used to be called Riley's Resort, a smallish campground located on these lakes. It is a two day event always held on the weekend after Labor Day. I'm not sure how many years this thing has been going on, but I can remember fishing in it during the early 1980's when Russ Riley ran it. I've fished it through resort owners into the late 90's. The current owners are Tom and Sue Shooltz, and the place is called Shoolt's Landing. Back in the day, they used to draw 30+ boats, but I've heard that the number is up pushing 70 lately. The Martiny Chain? Imagine 8-9 small natural lakes connected by navigable channels due to the construction of a lowhead dam. The vast majority of the shoreline is undeveloped, with huge fields of lily pads, duck weeds, and other emergents. In these fields, you'll find a few deeper holes that shallow draft boats can sometimes sneak into. The lakes themselves have plenty of flats with good to sometimes heavy submergent weed cover, sunken islands, and dropoffs into 25+ feet of water. The water just screams LM Bass! If the lake has any problem, it is that the vast majority of the bass will always be 1/8" short of legal size. I've been fishing this lake since the 1960's and through three size limit changes (10", 12" & now 14") it is always the same. I attribute this to the large number of bluegill fishermen who target this lake who consider a bass to simply be a bonus to be kept. The tournament though.... I can't think of a much nicer bunch of guys. While I didn't always enjoy the weather, the fishing, or the results, I always had fun. You'll meet a number of good fishermen and good sportsmen there, including many of the guys from Mid-States. And yes, I've fished a few of the tournaments that Mid-States has held back in my cast-for-cash days.
  8. Gosh Mac, aren't you going to tell him about the Riley's Memorial too?
  9. The local repo lot is has a weekly auction on all kinds of stuff, including some boats. Most are used and/or abused...... But the three they have up for next week are different. Brand New Older Model - Fishers 2006 - 2007 Still with warranties on hull and motor. Not what I'm looking for, but if Grand Rapids MI isn't too far to travel, you might want to take a look. The starting bid is $500 each. http://www.repocast.com/items.cfm;jsessionid=5030f9b9379501f23eaf142b194d1140432aTR?auction=794&category=32&location=0
  10. Same basic split shot rig I use for walleyes, and I catch my share of smallies at the same time. Besides crawlers, leeches work well at times as do minnows. Like Nate said, you do have to put up with all of the other fish, in my case usually suckers/carp. You get away from a lot of those nuisance bites with artificials. You also get away from having to try to keep your crawlers fresh when it is warm outside. At some point, try some 4" power worms with this rig. Black, Pumpkin, and Motor Oil are all good colors.
  11. I miss the old days when my pickup had a split rear window. What am I saying..... I miss the old days when I could FIT through a split rear window! ;D
  12. I drink a lot of Ice Mountain pure spring water while I'm at home....... And it is completely free of charge. Don't even need to get it in bottles as it comes right out of my faucet. Even take a shower in it every morning. We use the stuff to do laundry with, and sometimes its used to water the lawn. Must have something to do with tapping off the same aquafier. But I was here first.
  13. Unless Eastman Chemical (a Fortune 500 company) offers me a staff accountant internship, I'll be stuck in auditing or taxes. :-/ Many of the public accounting firms that was there, don't do a lot of internship in consulting, valuation, etc. One of the firm was so small, they just hire for auditing and taxes, because they don't always have a consulting case. The ones that usually have a steady line of consulting case do not generally put interns on those case without prior experience. If any accounting firm(s) step forward for an interview or offer me a spot it will more than likely be in auditing. Part of me saw this coming, but I'm still optimist. lol. It looks like I cannot get into the evaluation, analysis, and consulting until after I get a master or something. I'm afraid all of me saw it coming. All the education in the world isn't going to help make one of these companies cut loose a rookie in the consulting field. It just plain takes experience. There are just so many variables that it takes time to get the working knowledge of how each part of the puzzle not only fits in with others, but how modifying a part of the equation will react with the end result. My advice would be to tackle the taxes first, as that is one of those parts. Most audit work is strictly a sideline which won't get you any closer to you goal.
  14. Seems the judges are going to make us stick to only one album. So when it doubt, go with the album cover. I submit Carly Simon - No Secrets November 1972 was when I became a fan of sweaters!
  15. You got most of the basics already. Firm Handshake and eye Contact are important. So my advice? Try to be relaxed, and if you are, it will show in your body language. The easiest way to do that is simply to be yourself. I've read many of your posts, and you seem like a fairly straight forward type of guy. Be honest above all else. If you get asked a question that you don't know the answer to, say so. I've been in this line of work for over 30 years. It has never bothered me to tell a client that while I might not know the answer, I do know where to look. However it goes, I'll wish you Good Luck. And that includes the answer I just gave you in response to your earlier PM. Dang I hate questions like that one. Makes me happy to be way beyond that point! Hang on, you'll get there too.
  16. I'm happy I saw Taylor's post while watching a swamp people repeat! ;D
  17. If all else fails, you may want to try one of these stinger hooks. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0039246319242a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntt=stinger+hooks&Ntk=Products&sort=all&N=0&Nty=1&hasJS=true&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form1 I use them for walleyes all the time. Fairly weedless, and gives you two open hooks back near the tail!
  18. One of our local lake associations purchased one of these machines. It does a fairly good job of keeping weed growth down. The biggest selling point was that it removes the weeds from the lake so that the dying weeds don't end up being just more fertilizer for the next crop. This is something that chemical treatments can't do. If there are any drawbacks it would be the slow speed of the harvester which would limit it's use to smaller lakes or ponds, and then you need a place to compost all of the weeds that are removed.
  19. I've always found that deadsticking an original floating Rapala works. Lots of sizes to match the hatch too. Their perch/orange belly (color #5) has been my choice. Only problem is the slowness of fishing it. In a tournament, I always wanted to be on the move, and that doesn't fit with deadsticking all that well. Also, you need to keep one eye on the sky to make sure a seagull (aka - dump chicken) doesn't zone in on it.
  20. If you guys want to see a hobby run amok, you've got to get your wives interested in the craft of making candles. It's not too expensive. First you have to buy the four different kinds of wax which includes soft container style and harder pillar paraffin waxes, soy, and gel. You'll need a few different colors of dye, and who knows how many different scent oils so they smell nice. In the industry, it is called scent throw. Add to that the numerous jars/containers to hold the soft paraffin, the soy, and the gel. Don't forget a number of molds and wick pins for the pillar candles. Did I mention the wicks? Yeah, you need an assortment of those for the different waxes / sizes. Toss in a label made just for your company's candles and a few safety labels, boxes and bags for the candles you sell at craft shows or mail out. Postage and mailing labels. By now, your checkbook should only be down a few grand, or more. Oops, I almost forgot. You need something to melt the wax before you can make them, so add a cooker for each different type, they only run about $60 a pop. So why in the world would anybody want to do something this crazy? Because from September through Christmas, the little woman will be at craft shows each and every weekend. Fish anytime you want, and uninterrupted football on the weekends! My only hobby is looking for more craft shows to fill in any open dates.
  21. Yeah, and he'll only need a 10" drop on the Reese Hitch. ;D
  22. I would want to do something I've never had the chance to do, and that would mean a trip above the Arctic Circle. Perhaps Hudson Bay and one of the many rivers that empty into it. Sea run speckled trout, maybe some arctic char. Sounds like a plan I could go for.
  23. What would you say to today's topics if you were me? Yesterday, I had a funeral for a younger friend, a 38 year old man who died of a massive heart attack, and who left behind a wife and triplet daughters that are only 10 years old. Monday, there is a funeral for a young mother who works with my wife. Passed away from a brain tumor at the age of 34, who leaves behind a husband a triplet sons that happen to be 9 years old. I really don't know what I could say with regards to ET, Lead, or 9/11 that wouldn't get me kicked back to Topix for life. Maybe we all just need to count our blessings each and every day, don't worry about the things over which we have no control, and try to make this place we all live on just a little bit better than the way we found it this morning.
  24. They've been given. Good luck to all of you.
  25. I think the first qualification for Team Pampers would be if you ever met a cougar, and she tried to take you back to her place...... At the nursing home!
