  1. I find myself doing that sometimes tho I agree it's the wrong technique. Not trying to top my fishing partner, but more so trying to prove that I'm just not dead weight in the boat. And if he does think I'm dead weight, he's swimming back to the ramp. ;D
  2. Welcome to a fellow Kansan!
  3. I have used my 6'8" MHXF with 3/16 - 7/16 oz jigs, and I really like it. Light, sensitive, and has a stout backbone. Prior to fishing it, I thought the rod was too stiff. But after fishing it, the rod action felt just fine. No issues getting the rod to load up during casts. I have a Curado 201e7 mated to the rod.
  4. For me, it was a pack of Yum 3" tube in pumpkin w/green flakes. Poor thing sat in my tackle bag unused for 2 yrs. Decided to use it this spring and it has become one of my favs now.
  5. I agree. Also consider that after a long day of fishing, your back, legs, and arms are a bit worn. Therefore, unloading all your tackle, cooler, battery, TM, and topping the boat becomes quite an undesireable task. Just something to ponder. Good luck to you.
  6. No, you'll ruin your rod. Since the Cumara is outside your wheelhouse, get a Carrot Stix if want a split reel seat. Seriously rethinking this "Take a kid fishing" concept. ;D
  7. Search feature will reveal more input than you want on this subject.
  8. Congrats to the record catch!
  9. My area is littered. Taking the city bus from now on. Is there add'l fare to hook up the boat?
  10. No need to convince her if she don't know about it.
  11. Most of the time I two-hand cast, but I have been making a conscious effort to utilize one-hand casts. After you chuck one of your combos in the lake, you learn real fast which finger you release and which ones you don't. Seriously though, practice in your yard.
  12. I'd get the Skeet rod based on the free W&M tourney shirt alone. Hands down winner.
  13. You've got a rockin' rig! bassboy1 over on tb have some mad skills.
  14. Take the reel to BPS, Cabelas, Dicks, or local tackle shop and pair it up to various rods in your price range. From there, you'll know which rods to eliminate. I may be wrong, but most guys/gals here aren't using 11 oz spinning reels for bass fishing, so you may not get much feedback regarding your question for possible uses or techniques. Go with what you're comfortable with and what you can afford. Good luck!
  15. I've owned both reels you mentioned. Viento in the past and Citica presently. No problems with the twitch bar on the Viento. Hated the whiney (sp?) noise during casts. Good caster on moderate weight lures, but struggled with lighter lures. Reel is on the heavy side and bar makes the reel bulky. Citica is easier to palm, casts good, and has a line of history. Viento was one and done. Still unable to justify why the Viento was a $200 reel at one point?? At the $120 price-point, the Viento is a decent buy at best.
  16. Good day = 60 fish per hour Bad day = 59 fish per hour With two babies and a busy schedule, time on the water is enough satisfaction for me.
  17. Yep. 90% soft plastics & jigs to 10% hardbaits. Ask me a year ago, it would be the exact opposite. Just stepping outside of my comfort zone to learn something new each year.
  18. Andy, I used to have a bass raider 10E, and I built a dolly to transport it for about $25. This is the only pic that I have of the dolly since I sold the boat some time ago. You can do a search on here for 'dolly' for an awesome homemade dolly. I built mines similar to it. PM me for more detailed explanation. To Jkoch: Yes you can fish standing in a 10 footer.
  19. Are Tahoes considered mid-size suv's? Being a Nissan guy, I'd recommend the Pathy or a...370Z 8-)
  20. Maybe try a dropshot rig, that way your bait is just above the weeds.
  21. Glad you guys had a blast! My son's not even 3 weeks old, and I'm already dreaming of fishing together.
  22. Weld Bilt jon boats are as about as wide you can get in a 12 footer. The 12' jon has a 48" bottom width = better stability.
