First Bass Boat!
Walk away.....very fast. If it was as easy to repair the areas as the seller explained it, he should have done the floor work before listing it. You'll quickly find the hull when your foot goes thru the soft spots....which I disagree with the comment of zero risk involved. I agree with some of the guys who suggested the tin boats. More bang for the buck.

Worst time hooking yourself
Only been hooked once. Hooked my back while casting a spoon. Good thing it was only one prong of the treble. Bad thing was I was fishing in the middle of the outlet below the dam. Moments after hooking myself, sirens went off, so I had to retreat back to the banks with myself being foul hooked, before the gates were opened. Forgot my tackle bag at home, so I had to beg the other fishermen to borrow their pliers and help removing the hook. Luckily there was a guy that was nice enough to remove the hook.

FIrst Boat
First, find out vehicle tow capacity from a dealer or google search. I did the same when I wanted to use my '93 civic hatchback (no towing capacity to speak of) to tow a 14' jon. You're going to put a lot of stress on your brakes and transmission over time. I ended up trading in my other car (Mazdaspeed3) for a truck; payment went up and gas went way up, but one way or another I had to make a sacrifice, but still have the civic as my gas saver. Possibly try trading/selling your subcompact for a light duty truck or midsize vehicle. Either way you're going to end up thrashing your subcompact and be forced to buy a vehicle with sufficient towing capacity. Good luck!

First Bass Boat!
Not sure which part of KC seller lives in, but ask to see if he can take you out on LaCygne. It's a powerplant lake about 1hr south of KC on the KS side. That way you'll have an idea how the rig runs and how it handles two anglers. On the other hand, my opinion says wait for a boat to go on sale closer to you. Remember the seller will be in the driver's seat with negotiations with you traveling such a far ways. On that same note, you may have the impulse to buy it regardless, when weighing in how far you've traveled (7hrs drive is a long trip back to MN empty handed). Plus, the deal wouldn't be so good if you considered your gas, food, lodging, etc. Anyways, good luck to you however you choose. Trust me, I know from experience...I traveled from KC to STL to buy a boat a couple weeks ago . Do as I preach, not as I do.

got a new toy
I agree with Rhino about researching other similar sized jons to find out your boat's capacity. MG Bulldog foot controlled TM are a bit pricey at $380. Another option would be to buy a used tiller TM and a ProControll foot control adapter ($150).
