Anyone have any luck in SOUTHERN NH yet? started 3/12/2011
Hey guys, I know most of the bigger smallmouth in deeper lakes hold real deep in the summer and are difficult to locate without a fish finder/depth finder to locate deep structure and bait. I see that for the next 10 days that the overnight lows are about 60 degrees so that should be cooling down the water temps in most lakes and bringing fish more shallow. Anyone have any input on how long until the smallies will start to move back to more shallow water where they can be caught from shore?

Got out on the water this afternoon for a few hours with clr8899 & we managed 12 largemouth with nearly all of them being 1.5-2 pounds. Caught most on wacky rigged senko and a few on the keel-weighted rage craw.

Hey everyone, I got done reading a book about a month ago that was called "The Bassing of New Hampshire: How Black Bass Came to the Granite State". I would like to recommend it to anyone who is a bass fisherman in NH because it explains in detail how no bass existed in NH only 150 years ago. It gives records from the fish and game back in the 1800's and early 1900's about when specific bodies of water were stocked and where the original bass came from. I found it to be a great book for any avid bass fisherman in the state, and best of all it was free to rent at my public library (Bow- Baker Free Library for me) Here is a link to it on Amazon. Let me know if anyone else has read this. http://www.amazon.com/Bassing-New-Hampshire-Black-Granite/dp/096422139X

Grassy Pond In Rindge,nh
Hey Shane, do you use any specific type of keel-weighted hooks or does it not matter? I ask because I have a bunch but they are for soft plastic swimbaits and they have a large diameter and I wasn't sure if they would be the best for what you described. Also, do you throw that with spinning rods or a baitcaster?

Ban On Lead In Nh
Just in NH in 2010 there were 12 loons found dead due to lead poisoning and they were all from swallowing lead fishing tackle and there are only a few hundred loons in the whole state so that is a significant percentage of the population. Its a few extra bucks, but as the bassinator said, switch to tungsten weights because they wont kill loons and they are actually way better for the performance of your baits.

So I saw that NHbassmaster2 and fmoore killed it at Spofford lake early this spring each with 5+ pound smallies, nyxstyx got a 5-3 largemouth two weeks ago, and UNHbass37 has posted the biggest fish of the season on the forum weighing in at a respectable 6-12, but has anyone else had any luck with big bass this year? I feel like 2 summers ago there were nearly a dozen 5+ pounders posted by this time. Almost every time I have gone out this year I have gotten a limit of 1.5-2 pounders but not much at all over 3 pounds. Just seeing if anyone else has been having the problem of only catching average sized fish and not many pigs this year.

Thanks Jigfishn10, anglerjoe and ukbumpkin. That is great to hear that Chestnut Hill Reservoir MIGHT have some good fish in it since it is only 0.6 miles from my new apartment. I will post pictures and let you guys know how I do when I try it out in the fall.

Congrats on getting a boat KlubbaT. Me and clr9933 went bassin today in Webster. It started off painfully slow, but we started catching them on 4 inch black and silver senkos around rocks in 10-15 feet of water. Ended up getting 5 largemouth and 1 smallmouth. The biggest 2 fish were around 2.5 pounds each.

Hey guys, Im moving down to Brighton at the end of this summer, and was wondering if you guys have fished Chandler Pond or Chestnut Hill Reservoir in Brighton? Anyone know if fishing is even allowed there, and if so, are there bass?

Hey guys, has anyone still been catching bass on beds, or is the spawn all done? Just wondering because I will probably be trying the Contoocook River this weekend which I know is a bit colder than most ponds around southern NH, so I wasn't sure if I should be targeting spawning or post-spawn fish.

Anyone Have Any Luck With Big Fish In Southern New Hampshire Region?
For replicas they usually charge by the inch of the fish you are replicating. $8.00 per inch is around average, so $160-$200 for a 5 pounder would be my general approximation depending on where you got it done. Replicas wont fade and deteriorate as quickly as regular mounts too, so it will still look good 20 years from now. If you search bass replica mounts on google there are tons of options. Hope that helps you out.

Nice largemouth CLRinSNH, that thing is nice. I got out to a pond in Concord today with clr9933 and I caught 7 largemouth, a big crappie, and about 10 pickerel all on a black spinner bait. The largest was only 2 pounds, but there was a lot of activity in the shallows which was promising. Still waiting to hook into my first BIG bass of the season!

WOW fmoore!!! Thats one of the nicest looking smallies I've ever seen in NH. I got out this evening for a little and even though it was slow, I got a 3 pound 12 ounce largemouth on a black spinner bait with a single Colorado blade.

Nice largemouth fmoore. 7 fish in the snow still isn't a bad day! I went out yesterday afternoon to a small pond and didn't get anything until much later in the evening. Got around 8 or 10 fish all in less than 2 feet of water, and they were all right on the shore where the sun had been warming up the water all afternoon. Tried jigs, crankbaits, senkos, flukes, jerkbaits and no bites until I put on a rage rooster. Got them all while it was falling right after it hitting the water. Not a lot of size to most of the fish, but here was the biggest one.

Pushing it back works for me as well because clr9933 cant go any more, so I wouldn't have a boat to be in. Hey badcrawdad, how much snow is left in Pittsburg still?

Cast a few at my favorite small pond up near Plymouth, NH today and found this big largemouth floating near shore. I pulled it out of the water and I am guessing it was 6.5-7.5 pounds. It was definitely one of the biggest largemouth that I have seen in NH. Too bad I couldn't have caught it before it died!

Thats a handful of smallies Shane! Nice largemouth too Fmoore. Good to hear that fish are getting a bit more active. Did you catch your largemouth in real shallow water on the jerkbait & crankbait?

My vote is for Stumpfield. It was mostly iced out a couple of days ago so it SHOULD be all clear by now, and like you said Jaystraw, it will probably heat up quickly since its shallow and has slightly stained water.
