  1. Any lighter grey nylon should give you what you're looking for on the raw graphite. Not colorfast. You want the regular nylon so it goes translucent once finish is applied. The charcoal may be too dark. This is charcoal on NFC raw graphite If the color matches before finish, chances are it won't match after. Before finish. Prowrap 822 (silver smoke) After. Charcoal on SCV Blue/Green flip As for your swimbait rod, I've had success on the SCIV with royal blue to make it disappear.
  2. I'd look at an inshore ML if it were me.
  3. I believe they will, and even across brands of the same size.. The ones they will not interchange with are the new TVS and PTS......I tried. I have some 17mm Cobra parts and wanted to use them on a PTS for a build. No dice.
  4. It wasn't the quality of work that was lacking, it was my motivation. Remember how long it took for the Sage One? I had no desire to build rods. I'm not even gonna tell you how long BasserJim has been waiting for his tube rod and I have had his Presso casting reel for 2 or so years to get a CTS DS rod built for it.
  5. Dropshot with a 1+oz weight.
  6. Pictured above: NFC DS610 IM with CI4 2500. Rainshadow ISB841 with Stradic 2500 FI. St Croix 4C68MXF with Stradic 2500 FH. St Croix 5S69MLXF with Stradic 2500MgFB. St Croix 5S610MLXF with TwinPower 2500HGS. Rodgeeks C4610MXF with Sustain 2500 FD.
  7. The joys of lathe accessories. I bet i have spent 4x more on accessories than I did for my lathe!
  8. You wouldn't be referring to a certain SCV/Stella incident that took place 4 miles off shore in 50' of water? In case anyone is curious, Stellas don't float, but they don't sink like stones either!
  9. A bouquet of St Croix with a smattering of NFC, Rodgeeks and Rainshadow RX7 (Cascade vintage). A pointless fun pic as I close up camp for the winter. I was too lazy to crawl in the boat to put them in the locker.
  10. I offer a protection plan against that. It's only $499.99 to cover the rod against any and all accidents. Coverage for the reel not included!
  11. I hope these posts inspire and push other builders to improve their skills. It's not rocket science, it just takes some practice! Some builders are secretive about techniques to build things. I'll tell you how I did it and show pics along the way.
  12. I would like to thank Dwight for being so patient through the process. The missed deadlines on the blank shipment, the reel seat not fitting and the pure laziness of me when I didn't feel like building. I don't like to build when I'm not feeling the Mojo cause what I end up putting out is crap. I went in to a funk in 2012 and didn't put out much between then and this past spring. I think it took getting a new piece of equipment to work with to get me back in the swing. I think I'm back!!
  13. Funny you say that. After I wrapped it spiral right I was smacking myself about needing to rewrap the first 3 guides. Then i looked at the reel again and felt relieved. All of mine are left retrieve.....that's the 'right' side to me!
  14. Delivery made! I think he's happy with it. Hope to have a hero shot soon!
  15. After doing this inlay twice, it has become my favorite pattern. I have plans to do a couple in EVA shortly.
  16. Those are in the truck too, in the pouch on the back of the seat.
  17. All packed up in the truck.
  18. Well, this is it!
  19. Sounds like another rod project!.
  20. I'm always relieved when when the decal turns out flawless. That is the hardest area to keep clean working in a basement with a lathe nearby and 3 dogs running about!
  21. Yep. Light pressure, especially with natural cork. It's sharp and can dig too deep quickly. After the Stanley, I lightly hit it with a flat file, then sandpaper.
  22. Get the long one. I have both and the short one sucks for forming.
  23. I do the rough turning with a Stanley sure form file. It gets all of the rings concentric and level pretty quick. Not much finish sanding required after roughing in.
