  1. This may be off topic, but those handle wraps aren't the ugliest thing about Steve's NRX. The thread wraps leave a lot to be desired. I'm embarrassed if I have one gap in a wrap, let alone the multiple gaps just on the hook keeper alone. If these blanks were offered, I have no doubt I could build a rod far superior to the OEM NRX offerings.
  2. The only one I know is St. Croix. The SCV blanks with the blue/green flip color. I have quite a few of these. They are my favorite blank.
  3. I'm never happy with rods I put out. The customers are always tickled and can't find a single flaw! I beat myself up for nothing. After looking at the wraps on a NRX I have in for some modifications, I'm never gonna worry about a single gap in a wrap again. I can't believe what Loomis sells for $500 and up!
  4. Really? Any I'm familiar with are rated at 3/8 on the bottom end and do a poor job of throwing that. This Rodgeeks is the first one ive felt that might actually be good at throwing lighter stuff.
  5. Rodgeeks C473MHXS is rated for 1/4-3/4. Its the only MH blank I've ever seen rated down to 1/4. I just got one in yesterday. Haven't had a chance to play with it much, but it has a very soft tip for MH and gets to the backbone pretty fast. Might be what you're looking for.
  6. Thin coat of epoxy or remake the mold with silicon.
  7. Just because it has a big motor doesn't mean you have to feed it. Stay out of the deep throttle and it won't be that thirsty. Just like a car, it's all in how you drive it. You can take a car that will get 35mpg and MAKE it get 20mpg just by being heavy footed!
  8. Back on topic! I prefer full grips, but my most favorite rod in the world has a split grip Tennessee handle with slide rings.
  9. Then Capt Bob either has an inside track to buy below wholesale or he is getting it wholesale from somewhere. That is the only options. I have a wholesale account with Mudhole and Bingham. Call either one, the price is the same as its determined by St. Croix. None of the builders I know, myself included will build a rod with components provided by the customer without an upcharge. That's how custom builders make some of their money. We have the tax license, the inventory and the operating costs. It's just like any retail store. We buy at wholesale and sell at retail.
  10. No. Wholesalers pay wholesale, regardless of which of the 7 blank dealers you buy from. The prices are set by St. Croix.
  11. Unless one has an inside line, St Croix's price structure is the same for everybody. Croix sets the price for their 7 blank dealers, MSRP for retail customers and xx% off MSRP for wholesale customers. The only discounting St Croix allows is on discontinued models.
  12. Small tubes and maybe light jerkbaits or shad raps.
  13. I can't even find my rod shop right now. Still unpacking from the ICRBE last week. I have many repairs to do, but I can't find anything!!
  14. Looks like they still haven't fixed the insert problem from the Gen 1 rods. I fix lots of them!
  15. I had a '93 or '94 16' sea nymph with 25hp Johnson. Was a fantastic boat. Sold it to fund my Lund purchase. Wish I would have kept it in addition to getting the Lund.
  16. I can't even get $600 for a SCV with Fuji TiSic guides! He must be building with gold plated reelseats and Platinum thread!
  17. I used to carry an extra fuel line connection with me when I had an old OMC. Had the O-ring go bad once and it started sucking air and wouldn't run.
  18. I haven't been required to carry insurance for the last 3 years. I still maintain the coverage because it doesn't matter how careful you are, things happen. Flying down the river and the steering cable breaks.....boat veers off and hits someone, seriously injuring them. Guess what? You're gonna loose your house.
  19. What I've managed to glean since their introduction in 2013 is that they are on their 3rd manufacturer. If they're shopping them around that hard, your guess is as good as mine as to what you're getting. Kinda like the the early Kistlers. They were built on Rogue, Rainshadow and at least one more, but the name has slipped my mind.
  20. Are these the Fuji/Anglers Resource blanks?
  21. I use the poly arbors. They're easy to bore and are rather inexpensive. Not a fan of tape, however, it is used a lot and if properly executed, is just as durable as poly. If tape isn't totally encapsulated in epoxy, it will turn to mush and fail.
  22. Typically, the transom riser is for a jet motor.
