  1. I think that you'll be perfectly happy with sniper. yes the tatsu is " the bomb" . it is a little more manageable and casts like a dream all the way up to 20# but I dont think that it's worth double what sniper is. ive tried the toray and shooter. super sensitive, fair knot strength, super abrasion resistant, super strong and curls up like some you know what hairs. I personally think that the value is in sniper! tatsu has the lowest memory I've experienced in fluouros but a little memory is something that I can live with to experience the sensitivity that sniper has to offer. oh and I don't think that tatsu will make you catch more fish than say sniper or another line.
  2. it's dragged quite a few toads out of the lillies and been a good rod but it has not been abused and also that's how i would expect to use an almost 8 foot extra heavy rod. i guess it just had enough
  3. I still think they're a pretty decent rod. There's better out there for sure but I got this one for $79 so i don't feel so bad. but I do need a dang frog rod now
  4. I can't figure for the life of me what happened. it's a 7'9" x-tra heavy and I went to fling a frog this morning and it broke about half way up. it was not previously damaged because its been locked away in my rod locker for a month. is there still a warranty available? I talked so good about this rod despite the complaints on here.
  5. I was thinking the same thing on the stopping. as far as pulling it up the ramp. if it were in 4wd and low range, I think it'd jerk it right up. that 4.0 is a little torque monster.
  6. would a jeep wrangler with a 4.0 straight six and a manual transmission pull a 18 or 19 foot bass boat pretty good?
  7. yep if you fish em hard they're gonna get grindish. I don't think the gear material used is up to snuff
  8. what an incredible reel this b5 is!!! i was on the verge of going to buy a $200 winch. I cleaned and re- lubed and couldnt be more satisfied! it sits a little high on the reel seat but for free, I couldnt be happier. Im going to order the handle off the e series and this reel will be perfect!
  9. I just had an old friend give me 3 bnib curado b's. one is a 5:1 and the others are 3.8: 1. he said he bought them in the early 90s but couldnt be sure. cool thing is they've never been fished. my question is, can i find a 5:1 gearset for the 3.8's. I find then way too slow.
  10. well then that's the state record. should've called wildlife and fisheries. I know there's som big ones in Caney but didn't know about claiborne
  11. I've always used my mags for fine tuning or like another member said if the wind kicks up a bit.
  12. what amazes me is some of the rigs I see at local tournaments. the newest of new top of the line boats with two 1198's, two powerpoles, all the bells and whistles while being pulled by a brand new jacked up diesel with obnoxious rims and tires. I make a d**n good living and still couldn't fathom paying1/4 of what some of these truck/boat rigs have to cost. but yeah who ever said it is right... to life, love, and the pursuit of happiness and debt. i guess I'm a bit jealous but I'd love to know how people afford these things, especially if they have children.
  13. there is no way in hell I'd spend that much money on a toy that depreciates the way they do. I'll buy one thats 5-8 years old maybe older if its a good boat.
  14. I agree with you. but the price doesn't fit with what you get as far as materials and technology offered. I know its like comparing apples to oranges though
  15. where in the heck are you catching 4 lb white perch in louisiana? if this is true, you would have, or be dang close to the state record.
  16. I just can't fathom why bass boats are so expensive. Comparitively speaking, if you bought a car of equal value. say... 65,000 dollars, you'd have a marvel of modern technology. I personally think that automobiles have evolved at a much faster rate than boats. vehicles offer so much more for the money. Whats 65000 get you in a boat? vinyl seats, a tub of fiberglass, some carpet and minimal electronic circuitry compared to a car. We are the fools for showing boat manufacturers that we will pay as much as we do for a dang fishing boat. yeah i know the engines are a large bulk of the cost but still, you can't tell me that a 2 stroke or 4 stroke outboard is worth 20,000 dolars.
  17. I've noticed that the ACS III doesn't seem very effective on my smoke 150. max setting is definitely more effective than free but it doesn't seem like it provides enough braking force. could the ring that the brakes ride on be oily? i notice it most on heavier jigs. it's not backlashing but it tends to over run just a little even on the max setting. i can fix it with the cast control knob but i typically like it to be on just enough that the spool doesn't slide back and forth.
  18. bro, the revo's can be a little finickey on casting, I think we can all agree on that. especially the sx. but to be honest, I don't think its a problem with the reel. I'm not saying that you're a novice or anything, its just that there is a small learning curve with the revo series. I've had to be patient with every revo I've ever owned except for the winch. It's most like a curado to me on the set up. revo's typically have a heavier spool and thus more rotational mass. the more rotational mass the more breaking effort required. The STX is a great reel and I'm a shimano fan boy. my suggestion is to get out and cast the reel til you get to know it. and on the topic of the guy not backlashing, I don't find that impossible. I can give my 3 year old my curado 50 and tighten the cast control a bit and he can cast it incredibly for a 3 year old.
  19. I have the cara amistad and I love it!!!
  20. I have one that's 3 months old if you want to trade something for it.
  21. I have 4 cara's and I love them all. The amistad is my favorite. like others have said, it is stiff, but it has a nice tip on it to really fling and skip a jig. it's very well balanced too
  22. I'd like to have a large bowl of it so i could soak my whole spool in it for a couple of minutes
  23. I always fill mine to the top. makes my spool last a little longer. when it gets gnarly around the end of the line, I'll pull off 5 or 6 ft., snip it and re tie. you could say it's a neglibible amount i guess
  24. make sure ALL of the screws are out. you might have to remove the small rod that the levelwind rides on and there should be one or a couple of screws behind the spool on the handle side. I don't know if you have already but you have to remove the handle and drag star as well.
