Has Fishing Gotten Easier?
I agree with this one . Go back and look at the videos of the older Classics and look at the bags caught with the old "round reels" and shorter pistol grip rods. Finding fish has been made easier thru electronics but you still have to put the right bait in the right spot with the right technique to CATCH them. So you don't think that it is easier to catch fish because of the electronics. I guess I see what you are saying, but for me at least finding the fish is the hardest part.

Has Fishing Gotten Easier?
- Has Fishing Gotten Easier?
I was just curious to here from some of the members who have been fishign for a while now. Do you think with the newest reels, rods, electronics, etc. it is actually easier to catch fish? Do you think you could go back say 20 years and catch the same amount of fish you do today with that equipment? I'm not old enough to be able to gauge this myself, but it seems difficult most of the time for me. ;D I would think it might be easier to catch fish these days with electronics, and more efficient drags and reels, but what do you think? Some of my family members who fish have told me that they couldn't fish the same as they do today when they were kids and young adults because for example all they really had to use were Zebcos and just one company that made worms. I guess another thing could be how this sport has changed in your lifetime. Has it always been the same for you, or did you only recently begin to fish in the same way and for the same reasons as you do now?- New Dog

Daiwa Sol- This might be a tough one..
At the Richmond Fishing Expo, a Dances Sporting Goods rep. told me they had Veritas rods for 80 bucks. Might wanna check that out, I don't think it's a limited time offer or anything and I will probably be heading down there at some point to get one of those as well.- Lake Age

I love how practically everyone replying here gives a completely different technique. Should go to show you that it's a versatile rod and most techniques will work with it.- Lake Age
At what point does a lake in your opinion start to produce the healthiest, largest, all around best size and number of fish? I am of course referring to ponds or lakes that have been recently created and stocked. I know that this depends on forage etc. but there are a couple of ponds, both private and public, around here that have recently been stocked within the last few years. When I fished them last spring I caught a lot of dinks every time I went and was just wondering how soon they might be ready to produce. I seem to remember hearing at one point that around the 10 year point it would be best, but I could be wrong. Just wanted some opinions.- Fishing is boring!
I agree. I remember getting sick to my stomach when I realized we had to stop fishing. I think I have always enjoyed it, so maybe he just won't be a fisherman. Yep, other activities are good too. I still enjoy hunting more than fishing.- Daiwa Viento
All right thanks guys. Sounds like I'll get it.- Daiwa Viento
I'm looking for a jig reel as a gift to my dad. *** has the Daiwa Viento for 90 dollars. The original price was 210. Have any of you used this reel and had good experiences? I like Daiwa in general, but I want a reel that I know he will like and will perform well. I am a little skeptical of the twitch bar or button also.- West Point?
yeah, all the other fishing around there is excellent, but lately I've been wanting to fish for bass some kinda bad, but you're right, I guess not many other lakes accessible there. It's a very small town and area. croaker fishing is excellent, especially this time of year. huge catfish as well- West Point?
Anyone live or fish in West Point. I know the country club there has some big bass in the little pond on the golf course. My grandparents live there, but are there any other nice lakes down there you guys have fished?- Henrico Lake Going Dry? [Link]
little pond near Roslyn hills in a neighborhood off River. I used to fish their with my friends catching bluegill, and there were even some decent sized bass. It wasn't private, but I haven'y been fishing there in years. That's a shame. I might go back and check it out soon- OK I can catch plenty of 3-5lbers how to make the move to the big ones??
excellent post you have a very unique lake at your disposal compared to the ones I typically get to fish I think the best advice so far would be to follow Catt and WRB's logic; this seems to be focusing on structure and location first to find the big fish. It sounds like you have already narowed down some great places to start in the deeper areas and springs. Lures and presentation should be a secondary concern, use what you have already been catching the larger ones on. IMO any size bass from a 1 pounder to a 14 pounder will bite a senko or zoom trick worm.- anyone else HATE catching turtles?
my grandad used to catch alligator snappers and sell the meat. he might quite a bit of money before the market dropped. he told me New York restaurants would buy the meat for soups. never tried it or caught one myself, but he would use bamboo poles with a bait and hook attached stuck into the bottom of the pond. i pulled a pole up one time out of the bottom and a 60 pound plus snapper came up. nearly pulled me in water. i can't imagine catching one of those on a rod and reeling it in. it'd probably break. ;D- When did buying gas turn into an interogation?
