  1. Most any reel will cover shallow cranks, but I finally got a Daiwa Sol and love it. This reel will cast light lures like a dream, I have only caught two fish on it because of the weather, but it is flawless. I am using it for soft plastics and light cranks as well, but it especially does well with small shallow cranks. It would be perfect for the application you want, and the 5.8:1 gear ratio is excellent for cranking. I have used a Curado, and the Sol is far superior. Price plays into this as well, but a Zillion is even more expensive.
  2. I don't understand, as a BPS micro lite rod, do these rods have lighter power than others, because I assumed they were all ultra light, but some of them are L and ML. Stasher, did you feel the ML was actually an ultra light or what? I'm confused
  3. It is very possible and I would highly recommend it. Typically, I will stick with # test that has an equivalent diameter of the # test mono I would normally put on a spinning reel if that makes sense. So, 20 or 25 pound test braid works fine for me. Some guys will tell you to go heavier, but 25 # test is plenty strong for the places I fish. Some brands to try: Fireline braid, PowerPro, Spiderwire, and P-Line Spectrex
  4. Have any of you guys used these rods to catch bass with for fun? I intend to use the rod for bass as well as crappie and panfish
  5. I'm looking for a new ultra lite spinning rod and I was wondering what types of travel rods were available in the 50-100 dollar price range. I am hoping to get a 7' UL with fast action. I want a rod to keep in my car for when I pass ponds driving and stuff. I have found a few models I am considering that break into two pieces, but I was hoping to get one that breaks down into 3. Still, if you can help me out or suggest a rod it would be great.
  6. When I am looking for reviews on reels I will do a couple of things: 1. tackletour.com, sometimes you need to google the reel name and then tackletour after it. I don't agree with all their reviews, but for the most part they do a good job 2. ask on this site, or do a search because most every reel out there has been discussed 3. tackle warehouse, basspro, cabelas, gander mountain, and other online stores will have a review section, but I usually get the least information from there 4. google search, sometimes other fishing forums have good reviews as well
  7. I saw an article about these in Bassmaster and was wondering if any of you guys have heard of them. They come pre-rigged, but one to a bag because they are supposed to catch 50 or 60 bass per bait. They seem interesting but would you guys buy this because I think it is annoying there is only one per bag. http://www.lakeresourcesgroup.com/LRG.aspx
  8. One purpose of having a longer rod is to achieve longer casts
  9. Yep, and others are getting rich off him.
  10. I'm not sure any line should ever do that
  11. Just heard there's a new Hendrix album coming out. It's called Valleys of Neptune. All previously unreleased songs. I am so pumped, March 8th. Get ready for the Experience. :D
  12. Not quite, I'm looking into selling it to someone at the moment.
  13. Excellent, I was hoping that it would last longer. thanks RW
  14. What are the advantages or disadvantages to a copolymer monofilament?
  15. Here's a few: Shimano Compre~110 dollars; Excellent flipping rod; MH power XF or F action Falcon Lowrider~120 dollars; very sensitive and awesome reviews; MH or M; F or M action; use this for jerkbaits and possibly topwater but my topwater rod is the one above Lamiglas Excel- not many reviews yet, but you could be the first; follow the powers and actions given above
  16. you really dug this thread up. interesting theory though.
  17. I think I'm gonna sell it because I don't like the reel enough to justify dishing out another 50-60 dollars. I could get a lifetime supply of trick sticks with that money. ;D
  18. I have the Mojo and a Compre. I would say the compre is a much better rod, but St. Croix also makes other models besides the Mojo in that price range. The Compre would be an excellent choice, they are powerful and sensitive.
  19. I haven't looked into handle price, but I certainly wouldn't want to downgrade, and knowing Shimano it will probably cost 40 bucks or something.
  20. Yep, that's what I am thinking I just don't know what to sell a damaged reel for.
  21. Alright, I messed up. About a month ago I was fishing at a huntclub and while driving the ATV to another pond my Shimano curado E7 and its rod fell off the ATV and I have no idea how, but the handle got bent so that one of the knobs is at a weird angle. Ayways, when cranking it feels really weird to the point that I can't hold that knob, but there are two so other than that the reel works fine. I am basically considering three options: Just use the reel less and leave it as is and retrieve with only the one knob (I have to switch knobs after casting usually because of this); or replace the handle and spend money on a reel I don't like that much; or I could sell it, somehow :-/. What would you guys do?
  22. I agree, put the Curado on the frogging rod and chronarch on the cranking. I prefer smoother reels for cranking.
  23. AHHHHHHHHH! Don't even talk about Jason Cambell get him out of here. The skins are going nowhere. You see they go through these cycles of terrible seasons like this one, and then an ok season, so I'm betting they do OK next season.
  24. For light stuff and senkos I prefer a stiffer tip, so I would go with the XF action. 8-)
  25. Will this be the lightest rod on the market? Sorry if this is a dumb question because I've never really looked into rod weight.
