  1. I have used my Curado E7 on a couple outings fishing for Stripers in brackish water I think the Curado actually made a better Striper fishing reel than bass reel
  2. You should go with whatever feels best to you, so if you didn't like the feel of other reels don't get them. I got a Curado E7 and I just can't stand the play in the handle. I also don't like their braking system as much as Daiwa's so now I live by the rule of Daiwa baitcasting and Shimano spinning. So if I were you I would go with a Zillion, the Zillions in almost every model have gotten excellent reviews. A Zillion is likely going to be the next reel I purchase.
  3. Senko definitely; Most every rod you see online has underneath its picture the suggested uses- Senko, t-rigs, etc. There are even senko rods now, such as the G. Loomis ones. Has anyone ever thought about how the Senko is really a brand name from GYCB, but people call imitations senkos as well so that there is an entire class of lures that are named for a specific company's lure. It's like the kleenex. That shows you how much of an influence it has had in the past decade.
  4. Like Glenn said every rod length, power, and action has a specific application that it will perform best at, and I'm sorry but we can't give you the one "Almighty Jesus rod" that will do everything and perform the best in every situation. However, a great versatile rod for a baitcaster is a 7' Medium Heavy with fast action. If you really feel a MH is too powerful than another versatile rod would be a 7' M-fast or extra-fast action. hopes this helps 8-)
  5. I beleive in a previous post they were found to be over-priced and no better than any other cheaper hooks made my Gammy or Owner.
  6. X2; Those jigs are awesome, and Megastrike is a sponsor.
  7. You couldn't go wrong with G.Loomis but I love my Avid AVS69MLXF ,which I use for plastics and shaky heads. I have also heard excellent things about the legend tournaments.
  8. For the most part, most of the rods mentioned are rods meant to serve more than one purpose. Unless it is specifically a drop shotting rod, than you should be fine.
  9. I use palomar when I am tying on a hook, and improved clinch when I am tying on directly to a lure. I find the palomar easier to tie but on lures it is more difficult with trebles and other places for the line to catch.
  10. Really, I bought a rod for my Uncle and it gave me free overnight shipping, but it didn't remind me either, I just selected it because it said on the site orders over 100 dollars free overnight shipping until Dec. 31. But, I did order it a bit before X-mas, so who knows.
  11. I have to order most of my rods online, but I would suggest you wait and try it on rods. I've got my Fuego on a Shimano Compre I got a while before this sale. The rod is excellent for the price point. I wish I could have gotten another one of these reels, but I couldn't. By the way did you see that they had free overnight shipping?
  12. I agree big time, spend 150 dollars or a little more and get a quality rod, then worry about the reel. Actually if you got a Symetre or Sahara spinning reel that would leave you with 150 dollars or more left to spend on the rod. 8-)
  13. What type of application would that bait be used for? Doesn't appear to be any type of lure I would use or spend money on.
  14. I wouldn't say its a "factory tune" type of deal, but no reel fits so perfectly on a Zillion rod as a Zillion reel. The reel seat was designed with palming the reel in mind, and its place so that it is well balanced as well. That is what I thought was the issue here, that maybe certain rods were balanced the best with their reel counterparts from a specific company. Daiwa reel-Daiwa rod; Shimano reel- Shimano rod; Abu reel- Abu rod.
  15. Is there a particular reason no one has Daiwa reels mounted on a Shimano rod. I don't think I have heard one person on this site talk about a combo they have of this kind. Maybe I am wrong, but please respond if you have a combo like this.
  16. At the moment I could get 2 Daiwa reels (Sol, and Fuego) for about the same price as a Shimano Core 50mg or 100mgfv due to sales. I have heard the sol is especially good at casting lighter baits, and the fuego would complement it. Basically it would provide me with a plastics reel, and cranking reel. The core however, has gotten phenominal reviews, and has been compared to the Steez, for much less money. However, it still comes in at over 350 dollars. I just wanted to get some opinions. What would you do, or recommend out of those two choices; the two Daiwas or one Shimano beast? Please keep in mind I will also have to find rods for whichever reels I buy, so it would probably be more expensive to get the two, but I am NOT looking for rod suggestions here. Thanks ;D
  17. Thanks guys, I didn't realize there were this many members who lived around here. Great suggestions, and I especially like the bass clubs and will try to attend the expo.
  18. To get back to the original topic, I would say anyone looking at this thread can see that brand loyalty clearly has a HUGE impact on the members here along with purchases, opinions, and tackle choices.
  19. Yep, I find that most of the lakes around here are private, and I don't really want to walk across people's property without permission.
  20. Awesome! How far from ( VCC- Virginia Center Commons- I assume)? That wouldn't be a very long drive, and it sounds productive. I don't have aboat either.
  21. Henrico, West End
  22. Look, we all have our brands, and I *** those that have numerous or can honestly say they have tried them all and found their favorites. Personally, I don't have enough money to try out every brand of baitcaster, spinning reel, line, lure, or rod. I have brands that work for me and the ones I haven't tried that could be better, but is it wrong for me to give an opinion on a Shimano reel even if I haven't tried every other brand. Brand loyalty, just like knowledge come directly from experience, and I think all opinions should be valued even if that other angler hasn't been fishing as long as you. The "Shimano posse" has come to be a derrogative term I have noticed on this site, but imo I have seen little evidence to support the idea that they are trying to make us all use Shimano, and I also have seen little reason to doubt the opinions of the so called "members" of this group. Once again, I find virtue in brand loyalty, and those that stand beside their Abus, Shimanos, Daiwas, BPS, etc. because all of their opinions matter and can make a difference in the choices I make as a fisherman. However, this doesn't mean I can't try different brands when possible, or that I feel the need to bash anyone who I feel may be biased just because they enjoy fishing a certain brand of tackle.
