  1. Three day campaign at a pond, 3 fish limit every day. All rainbows. Ps. Fair weather fishermen don't catch fish
  2. Smallmouth in clear water will see the lure in the sky and track it until it splashes down, this is why it seems like you dropped it right on their nose.
  3. Note A-jays winter gear with the brown trout. The biggest difference between species, is between cold water species and warm water species. Bass and bluegill are both warm water fish. So they will both be active at a similar water temp and will react similarly to conditions that change the water temp.
  4. The writings on the wall for these advanced electronics. Last year when I stopped at Bass Pro shops, their center display was all high priced electronic monitors. This year, that same display was all new reels. I didn't even see the electronics. Doesn't matter how influential a sponsor is, if ratings are down and fewer people see plugs for the sponsor, it's worthless.
  5. Many said the big electronics sponsors; humminbird, Garmin; would never let them turn back from livescope.
  6. Keep in mind if the fish can see you, it likely will not bite. And they are vulnerable from above so they are keeping an eye out. It's easier to spook out a hole with an imperfect presentation.
  7. Nice. My PB New Hampshire SM was 4lbs even. NH and ME are a different fishery than the Great Lakes and Midwest. So PB discussion has to be adjusted accordingly.
  8. I think when on the bank, there is a thousand words that can be told, by seeing the fish in or near the water on the bank, ideally with minimal hand. Already some good examples in the thread with trout. CPR with trout can be a risky practice.
  9. Good job figuring out that stream.
  10. I did it for years. In swift current, being on the bank can be advantageous over a boat. On a drifting boat, you might have the chance for only one or two casts on a feature. From a wade position, you can take as many casts as you wish, and even try a different lure.
  11. I use spinners on a 6' or 6' 6" casting rod, with a low profile baitcaster that can handle light weights. Spinner fishing for trout is a science in its own right, but compared to fly fishing it is like the power vs. finesse debate in bass fishing. Fly casting is definitely a more finesse presentation. However, that doesn't mean it is more effective. I will say because the spinner is kind of a flashy, loud vibration, unnatural thing, your initial presentation to a pool has to be just right. If the trout already sensed something unnatural or spooky it might not react to the spinner. Usually it's just a few casts on each spot and move on. I know fly anglers will stand on a riffle for quite a while, but that's not the best way to spinner fish. Cover water, and look at how the spinner flashes in the water. I rarely throw a silver spinner. It's just to much flash.
  12. Maybe spool up some leadcore line and troll with that.
  13. These are actually just a bit under 1/4 oz (body weight). I have found 1/4 oz. Is the magic number for using casting gear.
  14. Does this immitate goose droppings?
  15. As mentioned already, it's a great cold water bait, has accounted for my first bass of the year for a few years, and it is always a quality bite. It is also a fantastic night fishing lure. Usually my go-to. Where I decide between spinnerbait and bladed jig- it's the wind and weather. bladed jig will work in flat calm, bright sun. Spinnerbait will usually not draw strikes in those conditions, but with wind and or weather will be more attractive than a bladed jig. It is also a good pike lure, and probably works for other species to.
  16. Pretty fast action for Haddock out from NH to the ledge. I got a good cusk and a beautiful cod that was released (photo). Also got into some whiting that were very delicious. I kind of played around with some different baits, a pink powerbait steelhead worm was getting the whiting bites. Some very nice haddock were caught, along with keepers and many shorts.
  17. I think if you are running a tandem treble live bait rig, you want all the points and barbs in business.
  18. Yeah I was hoping you would retort with the mouse bite. I have seen the photos of huge browns caught at night on big mouse flys. I have tried buzzbaits and the live target mouse a few times, but never in the perfect place at the right time. My more proven bait at night is a white jerk bait.
  19. They work for bass, you just have to use them.
  20. Brown trout were hitting. Lost a big one up the creek but made off with two. Then the weather cleared and their aggression expired.
