Knot for joining braid and mono for jig fishing
Definitely the J-Knot. Best for braid and flouro.

If not Braid, what else is there?
Fireline. Just started using it and really like it a lot. Depending on the situation I use a fluorocarbon leader or P-Line's Floroclear.

why knock Eagle Claw?
Sweet!!! Maybe I can get increase my supply of gammies at rock bottom prices!!!! I've got some smoking deals on hooks from Wal-Mart and if they put all Gammies on clearence I'll stock up even more. The Super Walmart store here is in the process of a complete makeover. The fishing dept was expanded and now there's large selection of the hooks plus a decent selection of Zoom, Kinami, Abu etc. Walmarts price for the gammie hooks is just a few pennies less than the Bass Pro Shop nearby.

Tying Braid to Flourocarbon
I use the J-Knot which is a variation of the Surgeons Knot. It's a strong knot and very easy to tie. I finish it off with a coating of UV Knot Sense and have never had a knot break.

why knock Eagle Claw?
Walmart here also carries Gamakatsu and Mustad.

why knock Eagle Claw?
Can't speak about all the other EC hooks but - Been using EC bronze style 42 size 14 hooks for steelhead fishing for over 20 years. Never a problem, no rust and hundreds of steelhead caught on these tiny hooks. And more trout than I can begin to count.

Stren Line
I'll second what Chris said about Suffix Elite. Been using Stren for years and tried Suffix Elite. Like it better than Stren.

Braided line help
The J Knot is also a very good knot for joining braid to mono or flouro.

Wear your lifejacket
My fishing is all wading in streams and rivers. There you'll find, fast and strong currents or unexpected deep holes and slippery rocks. One slip or fall and bang your head and it may be over. I wear a combination fishing vest and life jacket. And good felt sole wading boots or korkers.
