BRUSH PILES
I have been on some deep resorvoirs before, but after going to canada and fishing for salmon in fresh water lakes with depths of over 500ft, I was amazed at the clarity and beauty that surrounded us. We pulled fish from 300ft. on down riggers. I have made 7 trips over the years to Victoria and Esquimalt(sp) Canada. I still have some of the salmon left that the cannery processed for me. doubl a, i'm jealous of your hunting and fishing in Canada.

Fall Lures
Fall is a great time of the year. Fish can be caught on lots of baits this time of the year. As water cools down more, i say that because we are still in the 80's on surface temps here. I like shad colored excaliburs, white and wht/chart. spinners and buzzbaits, Chrome blue back for now, later black back rattle traps and rattlinrouges. Flukes, tubes, and other plastics all catch fish also. As the water temp drops, colors change, firetiger, clown, parrot and hot mustard work. As the fall passes and winter takes over, I throw more lures with reddish colors as the lakes get clearer. I have found that the red traps don't work as well in lakes void of vegitation. On lakes void of hydrilla, I have used the Bomber A firetiger with great success for deeper fish and the rogue for shallower fish. This year I will be throwing the Yozuri red trap (milo) in the dead of winter. I was outfished by one 3 to 1 over bill lewis traps.

POWER PLANT LAKES
Power plant lakes in texas will start spawing in late Dec/Jan. Cooler water is always on the other side of the lake in winter. There is usually a jetty that separates intake and the discharge. That point has always been good for me. The fall winds also need to be added into the equation. I don't know where your intake/discharge are located compass wise, but consistent winds will push surfaces temps around setting up fishing. Power plant lakes are predictable with time on the water. Assume discharge waters push along the west banks, warmer water of course, and this is the norm until prevailing Northern north west winds have blown a few days out of that direction, The colder water that is on the east side now get a steady influx of warmer water due to the surface winds that pushed the warm water across the lake. Take into effect how cold the wind is. One time you may get a 10 degree rise, other times maybe more or less depending on the cold front passing. A good east wind keeps the warmer water on the west side of the lake. East side not warming up at all. Hope this gives you something to consider. The intake in the winter should be good. With muddy coniditions, a chartruese lizzard has worked well for me during prespawn and spawn. I'll add that knowing when the plant is generating also helps position fish. I have made trips without checking to see if the plant was generating and it wasn't. The current helps position the fish. I've had poorest days when not generating.

BRUSH PILES
I knew I should have asked more specifics about the lake. You'll find deep, clear , rock basins with a thermocline that can set up at 60- 80. We already discussed on other threads as to how deep bass are caught in summer and winter. My fault, I don't consider a lake that hits 40ft occassionaly a deep lake when I have fished lakes over 100ft. Most of the time, deep clear lakes with very little vegitation doesn't have a thernocline that sets up. Fish in the summer on these lakes can be caught in depths of 50ft or greater. Thats personal time on the water. The key word is MOST LAKES.. A hump is an great place to put brush, Is this hump in the middle of the lake? Or is it a staging point were fish can go shallow. This time of the year, bass are found in the backs of the creeks chasing shad and bait fish, I should say usually found chasing bait.

BRUSH PILES
Clear deep lakes usually don't have thermoclines. Always consider the seasonal patterns when planting brush that you may want to fish soon. Off the end of wind blown points. In the mouth of a cove, where a ditch or a in creek bend or where two come together, on some flats.

BRUSH PILES
I strongly recommend planting brush shallow and deep on lakes that are old and the cover has decomposed. Planting brush at night, not letting everyone else see can put money in your pocket for upcoming tourneys. Plus it gives the fry, minnows and other bait fish a place to hide until they've grown. Enough brush can change an older lake thats going down hill due to a lake aging with no vegitation.

How do I remove a hook a bass has swallowed?
Never used a net on a bass yet. It will take a big one, or one that is big, but a poor hookset. What happens when you encounter a trail that doesn't allow nets. No lip service!!!! I do applolgize, I just always assume that we all tournament fish. I know nets have come along way, but slime coats are still rubbed off in the newer improved nets. I also see RW's point as well. We all try to do right in our own minds.

jig pitching no-no
It usually only takes once to get the point on that subject. LOL ;D ;D

Coldfront Question
I do not know your current lake conditions, a mild cold front may not shut the bite off, Rebbasser is most correct, it can position the fish tight to the cover. They might have chased or moved to a bait that was 2ft away, today they are tight and might move only 6 inches to hit a bait in front of them.

Lipless crankbait question
Next Insight please. Why the fuss on Flourocarbon allowing the line to sink giving cranks a deeper running rate from different monos? Normally Raul, I run 12 lb P-line for cranks, sometimes smaller. Re-pharse. Whats so special about Flourocarbon? I've used it a number of times, I've had questionable breaks that don't occur with my normal set ups. More money for the product, yet I've encountered more breakoffs than normal times. I can't use something I don't trust. I use the swimming pool to get my drop rates, sometimes my baits are beefed up to slow fall rates down. I knew that diameter effected running depth, but didn't know that mono size doesn't really effect drop rates. Nice to know, or learn something new every day.

I actually saw that episode on Tv with R Scott. pretty neat set up on the pond structures.

Fish tagging
I looked it up on the net. It was the La fish and game and the area Toledo Bend Lake area Merchants who supports the program.

G-day
Welcome to the site. Nice fish. They didn't teach metrics when I went to school. Are those species for supper or just fun to catch. Are they good to eat, we all saw Crockidile Dundee offer a few things that didn't appear to appealing. Good day mate!

Fish tagging
June 2004 Toledo Bend Tournament, La. SRA (sabine river authority) honors fishermen who have caught a 10lber with a free replica for the year. They tag those fish. The story of 2 fish. The first fish was caught at six mile creek and the other Housen Bay. The six mile bass is released approx. 20 miles from where caught and is caught 3 weeks later during spawn one mile from where originally caught. The second was released at the same spot as all others. It was caught five weeks later a quarter mile from where it was originally caught, It travelled about 15 miles to get to its home waters. That goes to show that big fish are territorial and will home in the same waters its whole life if conditions are met for its survival. We could learn a lot if we could somehow post web sites for different waters to post the info on tagged fish. Originally tagged on date, length, markings, weight and what it bit.

HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK THIS BOAT IS WORTH?
If you are from that area, Its perfect for those types of water. 900.00 sounds fair for motor, boat and trailer. I didn't remember the age of the motor. If you were to piece them together, How much for a boat. You can usually find a fishable boat cheap. A motor? and a Trailer? Together $900.00 sounds good. So does the one above with some electronics and accessories.
-
A must for outboard engines!
Congrats on the motor. If you allow your boat to set long periods, always run the gas out of the carbs, gas can gel over long periods, causing lots of $$$ for carb re-build kits which are not that expensive on some models, the money is spent on marine mechanics doing the labor. Add addititives to gas left in tanks over long layup periods if your gonna use the old gas. The lower unit has a screw hole to observe the gear oil level. Any merc dealer can give you recommended maintenance intervals and suggested oil use.

Jet Skis & Ski Boats! What A Nuisance!
Be thankful you get to share the water with them. In the So Cal. lakes in San Diego County, some of the water is only open to skiers only on certain days and fishing on other days. Great fishing, bad rules!!!! Imagine only being allowed on water from sun up till sun down and having to pay a day permit and launch fee every time you fish. Always wondering what a night bite would be like. Only allowed to fish with one rod, most catfishermen would go nuts with only one rod. Thats So. Cal.

Where might one find this micro munch tube?

Dead Sticking
Would most everybody agree, the most important aspect of dead sticking is fishing weightless!, This is the most effective way to fish it.

Lipless crankbait question
Raul, is that for any pound test with the1/2 oz. bait size. Is 10 lb test and a 1/2 oz bait still going to fall at the same rates as15 lb?
-
Lipless crankbait question
A good tip, when hitting or snagging grass, rip the bait out. Use the rod to lift the bait up as you are ripping it free. This will trigger some aggressive strikes on the fall.
