  1. Austin is a wise choice, its central location makes it an easy place to travel out of, whether to the coast or to Lake Fork. Hookem Matt
  2. Anybody that catchs fish from Elephant Butte wins my respect. Thats one sad mud hole most of the time. West Texas doesn't have much water to begin with. Matt
  3. Welcome to the forum. Matt
  4. A match made in heaven. Somebody that has more energy than Russ, God help us all if these two stay teamed up. LOL Matt
  5. Try the jig!!!!! Matt
  6. Muddy, Do what you need to do, but your real friends know you for who you are and thats all that counts. Forums are about opinions, and we certainly have some. Take a vacation Dom, we'll be here when you get home waiting for you to post again. Hookem Matt
  7. I have a girlfriend that picked up bass fishing just about the time Bassresource went to Fork in March. Short story, she has over 50 bass on the Storm Swims this year already. Call them what ever you want, they work if fished. She has the right gearing to be throwing them, she is willing to swim "ANY" type of swim bait slow enought to give it proper action. She has gained confidence with STorms. Would a Storm work in Cali? Don't know, but they do in our neck of the woods, and thats all that counts. Matt
  8. Texas was blessed in June and July with lots of rain and cloud cover. No 100 degree days in the first month of summer. August is not so promising, forecast calls for 100 degree temps for several days. You can always tell in Texas when its hot, When you see a lizzard crossing the road wearing sandals, you know its hot!!!!!! Ya'll Hookem and dry lots of water. Matt
  9. My storage system is simple, simple for me. I like to keep everything classed by type of plastic. 10 inch and larger worms together, 7 inch and so on. Creatures baits with creatures. Lizzards and such. Tubes with tubes. Primary colors that are my go to are always position up front. pumkin greens and variations. I also have the super large BPS storage system, and there are times I won't be throwing flukes or something so I can remove that section and put what will be in the game plan in on that trip. Matt
  10. Not sure of Florida waters, some times the mud that washs in can shut the bite off, sometimes newly flooded areas with new growth underwater can send the bass shallow. Too many details not known to specualte on. matt.
  11. Lane, Amistad is were I learned to plug as my dad called it in the late 60's. I haven't been in a long time. Amistad is on the list. I have read numerous posts on the Texas forum that cries for boat rentals. Its an idea that I have recently approached my brothers on about opening up a boat rental on Amistad. As long as it has water, the fishing will be good, and so would the business, but the first time droughts hit, and that is sure likely to happen, who knows how long it would take to rebound again. I promise you guys this, It wouldn't be a Rickey Boat rental place, and thats a promise. Amistad can whip up nasty in a hurry and 17 ft jon bass boats don't cut it with the winds that comes across that lake. There are some house boat rentals on the lake that might be availabe, just an option. Very pricey Lane, Amistad is were I learned to plug as my dad called it in the late 60's. 12. Russ, Have a Happy Birthday, the big FOUR ZERO. I didn't realize you had seen that many moons and suns set in your young life. They only get better. Matt
  13. Kelley, Will do, Chris has been trying to school me this year. She has quite the resume put together on swim bait fish this year. I've thrown one a lot longer than her, and she has amassed over 50 SB fish this year, and this is her first year to fish for bass. I hope to see you in March or when ever you make the trip. Come on down, the bite is steady, the night fishing has been very good for quality. Matt
  14. I'll throw this out there, If Amistad is in the mix, and unless they have opened some boat rental places since last year, how many guys would be bringing a boat. Maybe a poll on how many seats would be available that way. There are places to stay off lake as well as for accomodations. I haven't seen next years schedules for local trails or the professional side for 2008. Typically, March is very busy time for that lake and accomodations may be hard to come by. Up until the rains and lake resurgence of big bass showing up, there wasn't a big need for all those services until early 2005. What ever lake is selected, I hope someone has a chance to catch a trophy of a lifetime. Randall has made Varner look very appealing with all those Chunks, not to mention the numbers it seems to spit out. If I can do any research for any of the mods, please just ask. Hookem Matt.
  15. Theres a difference in CAn't and Won't test for, and HGH is testable. Matt
  16. I don't mean to sound rude, but quite frankly it's not your opinion that matters. Baseball has the most rules and statistics than any game I can think of. If a guy figures out a way to improve his performance and NOT violate the rules, then ---by definition---- he is NOT cheating. And lot's not be naive ok? The spitball has been banned for how many years? Amazing how well that rule is enforced. Hellll, Ive seen pitchers load up a ball so much, you see the spit flying off the ball on it's way to the plate!!! ;D Please, don't go "Charlie Allen" on us. If it breaks US laws, then its cheating in my book, and last time I checked, roids are illegal. If spit balls can be seen by the human eye, then cameras would catch it also, and how many times do we see footage of spitballers now days? Just an observation. Matt You reap what you sew. All those years Barry was an Arse to the media, why should the media give him a break, he was never friendly to very many.
  17. This isn't just about bass fishing, it anything you can get to bite for some young kid. As for places to not look like a child molester. Churchs, Boys Clubs, Local area military recruiting offices usually know the local guys gone who have children. How about contacting your area schools. The principal knows alot about their students. This is simply about introducing some body new to fishing and giving back. I was lucky to have a Dad that liked the outdoors. With todays technology, games, 100's of TV channels, computers, 24 hrs sports, ESPN, its no wonder why the decline in the outdoors activity has declined according to reports. Thats the one part of the Fishing Hole and Jerry that hit home. I just want to thank my Dad for always having time to take me fishing!!!!!! A lot of kids aren't that lucky. Matt
  18. Give RW a break, he had his Rose Colored Glasses on. That bass was every bit of 4.5 lbs. LOL Matt
  19. Georgie certainly got their attention. The whole time I'm watching the Air Jaws flying in the air, I was thinking Bass and topwater. I really thought when they travelled to the states, that the South Africian guy would tell the american about his little boat. After seeing the collision, I really thought they needed a bigger boat. Matt
  20. This one could turn out to be close. That 15 lb sack sure helped establish a good lead over the field. Scot Suggs Co Angler is leading the Co angler side. Suggs must be on a good pattern and school. Co anler had 11 lbs 9 ozs. Thrift ran all over the lake, had six bites, but the right bites for day one. Mark Davis is in 7th. Matt
  21. I had read the thread on one of Bass Resouce's finest. To which the idea came from. http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/myfox/pages/Home/Detail;jsessionid=D421B541B2250D7980701CD5AFAF3B32?contentId=3680290&version=1&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=VSTY&pageId=1.1.1&sflg=1 The August challenge list isn't posted yet, so I thought that I'd issue a challenge to all. First off, I have never posted a single picture of one of my trips, so that is a challenge to start with. My challenge to all is simple. Take a youth fishing. Some one you have not fished with, some one that you hardly know, some one whos parent my be deployed overseas, or someone who doesn't have both parents. Short and simple, take a kid fishing before the school year kicks off. The example Randall set probably gave him more satisfaction than the double digit bass he posts about regularly. Post some pictures of your "new" fishing buddy, and hopefully your catch. Any takers. Hookem matt
  22. When I hear lakes that are covered in vegitation, I often think of a shallow lake in general. When I find a lake or small body of water like such, I try to identify the vegitation that produces the most oxygen in the water. Those types of plants will hold more fish in summer. Heat and shallow lakes sometimes have depleated oxygen levels. Just the science part of the equation that some times gets over looked. Witches hair is a new term, any one have info on such? Matt
  23. No need for words, the picture say it all. Kudos for all your work you do for the youth, your schedule looks very busy. Matt
  24. Catch me up on whats going on. Its says its your first post, so first off, welcome to the forum. Three easy ways to get on the bad side of the majority of the forum. Don't talk politics, religion, cause everyone has their own opinion, and it just leads to feelings that get hurt, and occassionally tempers getting hot. We love bass pictures, but some don't care for the guys who proclaim to eat bass on a regular basis. Best to report your catches and leave the other details out. Even when its legal. What people don't know can't bother them. Great site for learning new info, and sharing of it also.\\ Hookem and welcome to the forum Matt
