Yeah, I like # 2 & # 5...

I recently purchased 3 Daiwa Pixy's... 2 - Airy Red's and one yellow pixilla... and now I need 3 new dance partners for them... I've got $ 400.00 in gift cards for Cabela's and $ 200.00 in gift cards for BPS that need to be used up... so what rods do you guys like the best for your pixy's? I've been thinking abouth the St. Croix Legend Elite LEC68MXF... and the GLoomis BCR 802 GLX... any other ideas? Will be my first experience with JDM reels... so I just wanted to get a feel for what everybody else is pairing them up with... open to JDM rods as well if I can find them... seems like everywhere I check there sold out/ out of stock... throw some ideas my way... help me spend my gift cards...

I got mine last year when they ran the same deal... and I want to say it took about 4-5 weeks to get the glasses... which seemed about normal for these type of deals... I got the Slyde's which seem nice... but I don't have any of the Costa's to compare them with...

You make some really good points... unfortunately I don't know anyone who lives close to me or who is really good at custom building rods... and since I've never owned a custom rod or fished with a custom rod... I don't know what custom materials are really good... I've always used stock manufactured rods from the main rod companies... naturally as I got older and my finances improved over time... I finally could afford to upgrade and try higher end rods like GLoomis and St. Croix... but I'm afraid I have to admit that I'm a newbie when it comes to this custom rod stuff... but that is all about to change soon I hope... the BAIT MONKEY has put his foot down and is demanding that I try a few custom rods... ;D Thanks for the information... I can use all the helpful advice anyone has in this matter... and I need to do some research... So what is the better materials to look into... brands and such...

I've never had or used a custom rod... and now I'm interested in having a couple of custom rods built for me... So for those guys out there with more experience in custom rods... can you give me any recommendations on the best guys out there... guys you would recommend to look into... names and contact information would be appreciated...

If your fishing from a boat and the water is stained... and not muddy... another option and a technique that works well up north here is to fish spoons, little george's, and gay blades on the points, ledges, and steep drops... fish the little george's and gay blades like spoons vertically or short hopping motions across the points and on the ledges or drops... regardless middle to low 40's will be slow fishing... your fishing for less bites... 4-6 bites all day is not uncommon...

Something else to consider when fishing really muddy water... Water that is heavily stained or muddy often appears reddish in color because little light of any wavelength (all colors are just different wavelengths of light) is allowed to pass through... the blues and greens are absored more than the reds... Bass have have two optical pigments for color vision, red and green... Both pigments absorb light over a broad range of wavelengths, but each has its own optimum where it absorbs light the best... Based upon scientific studies of bass vision... Bass color discrimination capability appears to be the strongest in the red and green zones... In very muddy waters, reds, oranges, and yellows are about the only colors of light available... given this... bass will not see purple as purple, blue as blue, or green as green, they will end up as varying shades of black or grey... except for the reds, oranges, and yellows... in shallow water... once you get to the depth that the red, orange, and yellow light wavelengths are absorbed (which will be quickly in very muddy water) they too will become lighter shades of black or grey... In clear water the opposite is true... the reds, oranges, and yellows will be the first wavelengths to be absorbed and bass will not be able to distinguish between these colors as deep as the greens, blues, and purples... So... in very muddy water the bass will have the best chance of visibility (i.e seeing them the farthest away) with the reds, oranges, and yellows... that is why red, orange, and yellow... along with the floro chart/yellow/orange colors along with black... generally will be your best producing colors... When fishing really muddy water... I would start out with selecting these color options in the lures I will throw... jigs & trailers, spinnerbaits/skirts/blades, and crankbaits... As for water temperatures... something else to keep in mind is that... studies have shown that when the water temperature is 40 degrees or less... bass only have to feed once a month to survive... and as the water temperature rises throughout the 40's it goes up a little from there... but still they can get by feeding only every two weeks or so... this makes for some very tough fishing and conditions... that is why most of your strikes will be reactionary strikes and your lure will have to be very very close to the bass... So if you decide to go after bass in very cold muddy water (absolutely the worst fishing conditions) keep some of this information tucked in the back of your mind... I am not making this stuff up... this is all information taken directly from scientific studies... and if you really watch the pro's fish under these exact same conditions throughout Febuary and March when all this generally happens... you will see alot of jigs, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits being thrown... and generally up shallow for a reason...
