  2. X2. Our tournament's are 2-day. We fish from 6 am to 4 pm the first day, then 6 am to 2 pm the second day. Combined weight for both days is the winner. Half pound penalty per dead fish.
  3. Cool, I kinda figured you had but just in case. Good luck on you quest. I'm hoping to get my first boat in a few years.
  4. I don't think there is a wrong way to fish them. Drop shotted, t or c rigged, shakey head, wacky, etc. The skies the limit.
  5. Have tried Craigslist? I found a '91 Ranger with a Merc 150 HP on it near you. http://stockton.craigslist.org/boa/1850360634.html
  6. The images are posted using an image hosting website. If you're on a network that blocks that site, like I am, you won't be able to see the pics.
  7. Anoter vote for the 870. Proven time and time again. The Moss 500 wouldn't be a bad choice either. I have an 870 Super Mag and I love that gun. There is no sound quite like racking a round in a pump action boom stick
  8. My bass club held a fun fishing day at one of our smaller local lakes on Saturday. The whole point of this day was to fish with some members you don't normally get to fish with. We started the day at 0700, then at 0900 we met up and swapped people around. The fishing was OK considering it was warm out with clear skies. Water temps were 70*. I didn't even know our lakes got that warm. LOL! I ended up catching only one bass, but it was a nice one. One of the guys I fished with caught a decent one as well. We had just gotten the trolling motor in the water when I see a fish crousing the sand flat. My buddy swings us back around and the first cast he catches it. That was pretty cool. All in all it was a good day on the water. It was nice to get to fish with these guys without the pressure of a tournament.
  9. No problem brother. Not long now, huh? Man, I wish we could take one more trip out. I'm not the same fisherman I was last time we went. Learned a few more techniques and gotten better at "seeing" the water.
  10. Here it is. That was a great trip down to get it. Saw some FLW tourney boats runnin' the Big C. Calling out spots that we would hit if we were fishing. The river being glass and if you know anything about the Columbia, that's a very rare thing. It was a sign. I wish I could have taken a pic of Tony when he drove it the first time. Like a kid in a candy store.
  11. I think I have a pic. I can post it, if you don't mind Tony.
  12. Happens to me quite a bit. A cuple times with a buzz frog, as soon as I engaged the reel the fish hit. I'm just waiting for a fish to hit BEFORE I engage the reel. That'll suck.
  13. This was in Warrensburg, east of KC on Hwy 50.
  14. I'm guessing it has something to do with their swim bladders, especially if pulled from deeper water as they don't have a chance to equalize their boyuancy. As far as fish that die of natural causes, I think some may float but once the gas escapes, they sink. This is all just speculation though.
  15. I remember that day Tony. I don't regret your wife not going with you more last summer. ;D My wife has said that I can get one when I retire. I'm hoping to bump that up to my last duty station. :
  16. Largemouth - 6 lbs on a Matzuo hunting dawg Smallmouth - 3ls on a red eye shad in gizzard shad
  17. I just got back from visiting some family in Missouri and had the chance to do a bit of fishing in a couple farmpond's. One is my Aunt's pond which I was told only held catfish. No big deal. Fishin' is fishin'. So we got some nightcrawlers and gave it a shot. I caught a couple and decided on concentrating on getting some of the others some fish. Well, my mom was down the bank so I went over to hang out. I look down at her bobber and I saw the shape of a fish in the muddy water rise up. When it got closer to the bobber I saw that it was no catfish but a largemouth bass. After it pecked at the bobber, it went away. Game on! I rigged up a rod with a topwater frog and made a few casts in the area where that bass had come up. On about the fifth cast, WHOOOSH!!!! Fish on! After a short fight and on good jump, I lost it. I hooked into 2 others that night with the same results. I was a little dismayed, but at least I knew there were a few bass in there and what they liked. The next day I hit them again and this time landed two. Nothing huge, but lots of fun on the light tackle we had. On another day I decided to throw a senko during mid-day to see if I could coax another one. Meanwhile, my step-daughter took the other pole to the other end of the pond. She proceeded to bait her hook and cast it out. Not 2 minutes later, she's screaming "I got one, I got one!" I drop my rod and run over just in time to see her drag a nice catfish onto the bank. This is her biggest fish to date. After releasing the fish, I go back and get my rod to take back over and hang out in the area she was fishing. I cast out my senko right along the shoe and about 5 feet from the bank my line just takes off. After a solid hookset and a short fight, I land another largie. The other pond that I got to fish was a very special trip for me and my cousin. This pond was on a piece of property that was owned by our grandmother who had sold it and has since passed. Neither of us had fished it since we were teenagers. So we head out at about 2 pm. I didn't have much hope due to the heat, but on the first cast something tapped my senko. I set the hook on the fish and brought in the biggest bluegill I have ever caught. My cousin was trying all sorts of things and had just changed again to a small crankbait. This made fishing difficult since the whole pond was surrounded by a layer of matted moss and grass. Nonethless, he hooks and lands a nice largie. All together, we hauled in 6 fish in about an hour and a half. We will be back. A couple more pics from that pond. That evening we return to the pond. It's definitetly topwater time. I rig up a frog and give it a toss. Just as it gets to the weed edge, I get a strike and land a bass. A couiple minutes later, my cousin lands a nice crappie on his crankbait. These fish were even strikeing through the matted moss but a good foot behid the the lure. So I would pitch it just beyond where it struck and slowly "hop" the frog along. 9 times out of ten, the fish would strike again. By the time we left, we had landed another 10 fish. This was by far the most fun I have had fising in a very long time. Not only because of the awesome action, but fishing the family's old farm with my family. I can't wait go back there. Sorry for the long post, but I hope y'all enjoyed the story.
  18. Well done my Washington brother! That's an outstanding WA bass.
  19. b.Lee - Yes, I am moving out of state. I have orders to Elmendorf AFB, AK. DRhodes - No, I didn't take my wife. I fish as a non-boater with a friend of mine.
  20. Fished my last club tournament before moving this coming August. I didn't place as well as I would've liked, but overall I did OK. The fishing was pretty good, catching well over 20 fish, but just couldn't find anything of real size. Biggest fish for me was 2 lbs. I did catch my first wacky rig fish and first shakey head fish. Top producers for me were senko's and spinnerbait's. Weighed in limits both days which was another first for me. Caught my 5th keeper on my last cast of day 2. Day 1 I culled 3 fish. Total weight for both days was 9.62 lbs which put me in 28th out of 34 anglers. I'm currently 7th out of 47 anglers in points though. A couple bonuses were catching a 16.5" walleye and seeing a couple bears. I'm kind of bummed that this was my last tournament in this club. I learned a ton from these guys and hope that if I return to Spokane, I will fish with them again.
  21. I think all they do really is reduce glare, which helps see objects underwater. I've also noticed that reduced glare means less eye fatigue. I wear Cocoons because I wear prescription glasses.
  22. I'm with you on the senko. I just started catching fish on them this year, biggest being a 5.5 lb'er. I'm still catching fish on other baits though. Topwater frogs have done well for me so far. As have crankbaits. But the senko is my top producer.
  23. PB stands for personal best. My wife just started bass fishing this year. A bit more info about this fish. She was using a pumpkin seed Cabela's brand swimsenko. A tiny largemouth had bitten the paddle tail off and she asked me if it would still work. I guess it would. Tony - I'll have to mark the spots where I've been catching fish on a map for when you get back.
  24. Took the wife out Saturday evening and she caught a PB. This was only her second smallie and she caught her first just minutes before. She thought she was snagged and jerked her line a couple times. Well, this "snag" pulled back. She fought this fish like a pro. Letting it run and not horsing it. After the realease, she was shaking like a leaf. I love watching her catch fish. I on the other hand, only caught a few dinks. Doesn't matter though.
  25. Congrats on your assignment to Guam. I was stationed there for 15 months before they made it a long tour. I had a blast. If I remember right, there isn't any bass fishing, but there is a lot of salt water fishing. I would also suggest getting SCUBA certified. It's wicked cheap there. If you're into it, the night life in Tumon is awesome. Definitely take a trip to Australia. It's only a 4 hour flight to Cairns and there should be package deals at MWR. Some of the local woman are top notch! Absolutely gorgeous. The beaches are really nice and the water is warm. One of the best beaches on the island is on base. If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me. Hafa adai!
