Re: why fishing regulations cannot work and should be removed
I'm not familiar with these laws but my best guess would be that you can legally fish a private lake out of season. The reason being is because homeowners or the landowners paid to have the lake built and paid to stock the lake with the fish. How could the DNR have the authority to tell them not to fish it? This makes sense. . . does anyone know the official ruling on this? Call the game warden, serioulsy. It's their job to answer questions like this. And they will be the ones to write the ticket.

The Bass That Hooked YOU?
I very vividly remember catching my first bass. I was visiting family in Missouri and we were staying at my Grandma's house. She had 3 ponds on her farm and for the longest time we could only go to the one closest to the house so the parents could see us. Well, this trip I was set free to roam all the way back to the "big pond", which probably hadn't been fished in 20 years or so. Armed with my spinning outfit and a pack of yellow grubs from Wallyworld, I was off. After catching some massive bluegills and crappie, I got a hit that nearly ripped the rod out of my hands. I fought the fish, having no idea what was on the other end. When I got it to shore, I realized I had just caught my biggest fish ever. I ran up to the house to weigh it on a bathroom scale. 2 1/2 lb largemouth bass. I ran back to the pond to release it and pick up my gear. I returned the next day and ended up catching the exact same fish. I could tell by the tiny hole where I had hooked him the day before. Well, Grandma ended up selling that farm and has since passed on. Part of the sale agreement at the time was that any of the grandkids could fish those ponds as long as they asked permission first. I'm not sure if those same people own the farm or if those ponds are even still there. Next time I go back, I'll definintely be stopping by to ask if I can take my daughter to fish the "big pond".

Re: why fishing regulations cannot work and should be removed
I would say you are correct, it should still be illegal to fish out of season for bass even if it's a private lake. It wouldn't be any different than hunting out of season on private land. It's called poaching. I would call your local wildlife officer and ask them.

Any other turkey hunters out there?
I sure am, here on the east side. I've got a few spots picked out. A buddy and I went and moved his ground blind yesterday. Driving out we saw a strutter with about 10 hens. This my bird from 2008. I got skunked last year. I used a bow all season.

Any other turkey hunters out there?
I'm getting stoked for turkey season which opens on the 15th for us. Heard my first gobble of the year a couple evening ago when I went scouting. Got me all jazzed. I'm a little bummed that this will be my last turkey season for a while since there aren't any where I'm moving to this summer. Anyway, to those that are hitting the woods this spring...good luck!

any clubs in Washington State?
http://www.bassresource.com/bassfish/bass_fishing_clubs.html Looks like the Evergreen Bass Club is based out of Tacoma.

What knot for braid to Mono/fluoro
I use an Alrbright Special. Double uni is also a good one.

Power or Finesse?
I guess I would say I'm a power fisherman, but I am learning more and more about finesse. My favorite finesse bait is the 4 inch worm drop shotted.

It's Just a Catfish!
Big fish, but that's not a catfish. It's a whale shark. And a juvenile one at that. I snorkled with some mid-sized 20-25 footers when I was deployed to Africa.

First tournament of the year
Fished in my club's first tourney of the year this past weekend and it was tough. Day 1: The weather was nice, clear and not to windy. Started off with a short run to a cove. Threw cranks for a bit without a strike so I switched to drop shotting a Zoom 4" finesse worm in smokin' shad color in 30 feet of water. Hooked and landed a 1.5 lb smallie. Not a big fish but things were going better than the previous weekend's pre-fishing. Made a couple more runs without a strike. to show how tough the fishing was, after weighing in I was sitting in 8th. My partner didn't get anything. Day 2: The weather was drastically different, windy and rain off and on. Made the run to the same cove I caught my fish at. Went straight to drop shotting. Nothing. Tried a lipless crank. Nothing. After about an hour and a half, trouble started. The trolling motor quit. After about 30 minutes of working on it on the water, we ran back to the ramp to get the boat out and continue working on it. No joy. Day was over for us. Pretty disappointed with day 2. I ended up in 14th out of 38 anglers, which I don't think was that bad all things considered. 1 or 2 more fish and I would've cracked top 10. We're already making plans for the next tournament next month.

Bassin' Vernacular
Big 'un is "big one". How about calling big fish "toads" or "hawgs"? When I fish hits hard, I say it crushed it.

NW Roadtrip Anyone?
Nice fish Glenn! Man a couple of those and I'd be sitting pretty good in any of the tourney's I'm fishing.

favorite fishing show
City Limits is my favorite. I also like Hook n Look.

Have you ever wanted to fish so bad that......
Hey Tony, hope you're doing well out there. It'll be over before you know it. The only thing I regret about getting orders is not being able to fish with you again. Who knows though, I may have to pop down on leave. Take care brother.

Weirdest Thing You've Ever Hooked?
A dead kitten while bottom fishing in some saltwater. That was pretty nasty. I've hooked a few seagulls tossing herring. I've had a heron nearly grab a topwater. I scared the crap out of it when it saw me.

NW Roadtrip Anyone?
Way to go Keri! I'd really like to go if I can convince the wife. It would be for one day only, but like I said, I don't have a boat.

Your favorite spinnerbait?
3/8 oz Strike King red eye in white with a 4" white grub trailer.

Tough day on Lake Roosevelt
My partner and I head out to Lake Roosevelt on Saturday to pre-fish for a tournament this coming weekend. I expected the conditions to be rough, but not this bad. We didn't hook into a single smallie. Water was cold (39-42 degrees) and very clear. I tried everything I could think of. Drop shotting, jigs, jerkbailts, lipless cranks, tubes, etc. Nothing produced. The only fish caught were a pair of 18" rainbow trout that I picked up on a drop shot in the first hour or so of the day. So basically we're going to headed into this tournament at square one. It's going to a rough weekend.

Flash forward and V back on the air
I love Flashforward and V, along with Fringe. I remember watching the original V. Scared the crap out of me.

NW Roadtrip Anyone?
That's a good idea. I don't think I could do a multiple day trip. I've got a tourney a month til I leave for Alaska in August. Plus I don't have a boat. I do want to take the wife up to Potholes to fish from the bank. I saw some good spots with some shore access.

Thoughts on my lure choices?
Thanks for the reply Backwater. I guess I should've listed my standby lures since I was thinking of having a shallower diver ready. But at least it's givng me a little confidence that I'm on the right track.

Thoughts on my lure choices?
Thanks for the suggestions. I don't have any hair jigs, but I may go pick some up. I was planning on having a lipless crank on standby if the blade bait doesn't work out, I'll have to pre-tie some c-rigs.

Thoughts on my lure choices?
I'm headed out this weekend to a lake that is still pretty chilly and clear for smallies. I have 5 rods to bring: 3 baitcasters and 2 spinning. After reading many threads on here about cold water fishing, this is the plan I have come up with. Thoughts? Baitcasters: - blade bait - suspending deep diving jerkbait - jig w/craw trailer Spinning: - Drop shot - tube
