Maryland's Who's who!
point of rocks has been hitting well for me. since the Dicks sporting goods near me doesn't have smoke w/purple flake or black 4 inch senko's, i'm ripping a little more than an inch off the 5 inchers to cast against the wind and get it to the deep areas. the fish are wherever you can't see the bottom very well. not much shallow stuff. i've fished 3 days this week with over 20 caught, none over 14 though which is kind of a bummer, but it's been good action. pretty consistent. i fished for a little over 3 hours sunday and landed around 20, with my last 8 or so within 30-45 minutes wacky rigging senkos. i missed probably about that number when they ripped it off the hook. it was weird how i kept getting hits. that was when the sun was going down. i fished the break of dawn tuesday and wednesday and caught good numbers before 930 and spotty deep hole action until 2 oclock. if i missed a couple fish in a hole, it would die. all fishing from the side and wading. a couple have broken my line, 10lb test spider wire, but i haven't kept anything huge on. i'm not sure how much longer the action is going to last though, which is saddening me

People of Maryland....I want to fish!!
are you guys talking about hooking into muskies in the river?? where are those things at?! swains lock and pennyfield lock have been pretty good for me. i like the wading that can be done there. 17 incher at pennyfield a couple days ago, even bigger one lost at swains. today caught about 10 smallies biggest about 14 inches at swains lock. the cooler water this morning from the "cold front" we just got had them going

WOW that is a nice smallmouth! i love how the fish have a lot of fight in them in the river. the tail on that fish is huge too, which is something i've noticed different between smallmouth and largemouth which is odd. i haven't gotten a chance to get out to the river lately i was skeptical from the water levels rising and high flows... i've just been fishing this pond near my house and the fish hardly fight at all unless you reel them in slowly. dam 4... is that in williamsport? one of these days i want to go up to walleye country and try for some of those.. i haven't ever caught one and i want to see how much of a fight they have to offer. have you ever hooked into one of those?

Maryland's Who's who!
Basser, yeah i'll try the toepath next time. first im going to try fishing the canal if i see any good looking structure or a hole. is it better to fish the warm water in the current? or where the current tapers off? hopefully this rain won't do much to the river i'm planning on going to pointy rocks tomorrow. and yeah i saw a bunch of bucks when i was walking around near the river, i will be wearing some bright colors! and i have no clue how to catch fish that big at black hills, i've never had much luck there except for some that topped 16 inches. Brian, yeah i figured it was farther up, it was just taking so long for me to get there and the sun was practically all the way down and it was getting dark so i just turned around. i fished spots that looked like they had some hope but i didn't even get a bite. i guessed they weren't letting any wayer out.t :-? i've actually been fishing twice this week in the creek that comes out of the dam at black hills. there's rainbow trout there, and i got a big one about 15 or more inches long, i have to measure it on my rod(made a mark on my rod), and two small ones on a spinner, and the big one was FAT too! and this pond in the kentlands catching some largemouths on senkos, and i managed to get one that was about 15.

Anyone havin luck on the potomac lately ?
hey everybody, i'm new to the forum and have read this thread in its entirety and am hopefully going to find a good place to fish from the shore around these areas (if you guys don't mind that is!). i'm going to do some research about finding some good shore fishing around the ft. washington, pohick bay, 4 mile run, or any of these areas that might be worth it! i'll be trying to catch stripers and largemouths so hopefully i can get on some fish!

Potomac River Fish Off!
hey guys new to the forum! seems like the lower potomac is doing well this time of year. i fish the upper potomac regularly, and mattawoman maybe twice a year. i read this thread in its entirety and find it very very interesting, and am going to make it a point for me to drive down somewhere around pohick bay or 4 mile run or one of these places you guys are talking about (if you guys don't mind that is!) and try to catch some largemouth and stripers hopefully! i just have to do some research of an area to go to, maybe around a boat ramp or something, where some decent shore fishing might be. awesome thread!

Maryland's Who's who!
thanks guys! i went back today had a good amount of bites and only caught 5 . i think the water is moving a little too fast for shore fishing. i just couldnt get the senko to sink enough i guess, and it must have been drifting right by the fish. after not having much luck i packed my things and drove to the power plant at dickerson and walkedfor about 30 mins and couldn't find the warm water area? i parked at the parking lot at the park, walked towards the river on that trail and headed upstream but turned around after a while.. on my way back some HUGE fish were jumping and boiling probably 10 feet offshore and making gigantic wakes.. catfish? muskie? i put on a chug bug for laughs and didn't get a strike (not surprised) but is there a better place to park? or walk? i was quite confused :-?

Maryland's Who's who!
hey guys i'm new to the forum. i fish in the upper potomac around rileys lock up to point of rocks, which is my personal favorite. the fishing there is really good and has been since the beginning of september with senkos. im pulling 20+ per 6 hour day, fishing from the shore, which a couple over 15 mixed in. my PB this year at point of rocks is a 21 inch 5.5 pound hog that kept ripping line off my reel in current (i tend to keep my drag semi-light). i fish from a kayak around the dickerson/monocacy river area, and from my dads boat around the rileys lock area up the the third island upstream and see good luck at the beginning of the third island. right now the water is moving really fast at point of rocks and i can't wait til it slows down a little so i can go!
