The Best Time of Day
i agree that mid day is the time to catch big fish, ive just now learned that this season. my first 4+ fish came on memorial day at 1:00. it was HAWT. my second came about 2 weeks ago ~11:00, and i just got my new personal best at 1:30! i fell that the morning is easier to fish, and it just seems like thats the time to go, but lately ive been doing the mid day thing and im catching less but bigger fish.

How Many Fish Do You Lose Each Trip?
i bet some of the hits are bluegill. when i use smaller worms(6 inch) i get alot of bluegill action, and even catch a few! i actually went to a 6 inch lizard and that made it much more useful for bassin

Ok the more i think teh more jealous I get....
how is he rigging up the bluegill? id like to try this

What is a "big bass" in your neck of the woods.
while ive heard of big ones here in PA, ive yet to see them. i consider a big fish anything over 3 lbs. then again , ive only been fishing for about 4 months. my PB is probably in the 4-5 lb region, and ive only caught 2 over 2 pounds. anyone wanna take me where bigger fish are?? :-/

Sunny Population
Down at my favorite pond(~1 acre) i catch some awesome bass, one being my personal best of just under 5.5 lbs. the bass fishing is great, i can take the girlfriend there and have a good time because she doesnt have to try hard to catch a fish. The problem is the fish arent as fat as i think they should be, and i think this may be because of the huge overpopulation of sunnys. they are EVERYWHERE!. just walking around the edge of the pond you can probably count 200 sunnys just walking around the parimiter. is there anything i can do about this over population? id like to start seeing some bigger, fatter bass come out of this little place. thanks for the help!

does this indicate the size/weight of a fish?
what do you mean by that?

does this indicate the size/weight of a fish?
i would assume at least 14.5 inches, the body was definately bigger than the mouth. as i look at other pictures of bass i have a feeling it was more than 5 pounds, but i cant tell forsure. ill try and get camera phone pictures up tonight

i went fishing on memorial day with a few buddys down at the neighbors pond, its about an acre and a half. for the past year ive seen these 2 huge bass swimming around together, and i also did on monday. i cast my 6 inch rubber lizard out there to them and BAM! finally had a big one. i wasnt expecting it to be anything major, although bigger than my biggest fish of MAYBE 2 pounds. i was expecting maybe 3 pounds. but when i got the fish to the bank i almost fainted. it was huge! i pulled out out and its bottom lip felt like a 1/2 inch piece of tube steel! i had no way to weigh or measure it but i would asume it was 20 inches and at least 5 pounds. this was confirmed by my buddy who had caught a 4.5 pounder and he said this was a good bit heavier. i always had said that if i could fit my fat hand in a bass' mouth, id get it mounted. well i could, but i just didnt have the heart to take such a beautiful fish. does a 5 pound fish have a mouth opening similar to my hand size of ~11 inches circumfrence? the fish wasnt overly fat, but was no skiinny fish. im still pumped on this big a fish from such a small pond in PA!

catch and release...
is there any way to tell if you should keep a fish out of a lake or not? i fish a small pond loaded with 10-12 inch bass and tons of sunnys and crappies. the bigger bass that are caught are pretty skinny. a 6 lb was pulled out the other day, but otherwise they are on the smaller side. would it be beneficial to not keep but transfer some of these fish to another pond with a much smaller population?

Stumped on bass!!!
sorry to hijack but i am also fishing a small pond and had a few questions. the pond is about an acre or 2 and is nothing but weeds. there are 2 major rocks sticking out of the water, and the pond might be 5 feet at the deepest, and thats probably being generous. any opinions on how to fish such a weedy lake? ive been throwing t-rigged worms and fairing pretty well but not catching anything major. any way to romp through the weeds and get some big girls attention?
-
any guess on the weight of this fish?
pulled it out of the 1 acre pond down the street. i would guess it was 20 inches at least, but didnt measure it

Whats your craziest catch?
i just caught a bullhead and a frog this afternoon, all on a plastic worm

Hows the weather for fishing? need some help
today im taking my buddy whos a pretty avid fisherman to my "spot". its a small pond down the street with a few real nice bass. every time ive been there ive caught something, and there was a point where i was fishing it every day. the last 2 weeks here have been bone dry and around 80 degrees, with high pressure. the longer we went without rain, the less fish i caught, and the smaller they were. last night it POURED, and cleaned alot fo the scum off the top of the pond. today is pretty hot and humid, and im taking the kid fishing around 4-5. do you think we have a giid chance at catching fish? is there any other things i should look for weather wise no matter where im fishing? i have read that when a front comes through the fish dont bite, but im not really sure what fornts mean what and the differnce between high and low pressure area affects on fish. thanks guys

Help fishing a quarry
i also have another question. will the fish swim to the bottom of the quarry at over 100 feet deep, or will they only travel down so far? i only have so much line!

Help fishing a quarry
First of all, im a n00b and this is a great site. ive been fishing a quarry around my place that has to be 100+ feet deep, and the water is clear as can be. im talking you can see 30 feet down. me being inexperienced, any ideas on how to fish this? i would say the surface temp is ~75 degrees right now. i can see the fish, i just dont know what to use to catch them. ive cought a few out of there, using real worms and real minnows, but ive only fished maybe an hour total so far. thanks for the help guys john
