  1. Fantastic for her! And congrats to you
  2. Welcome aboard, Andrew!
  3. Welcome aboard, Dave!
  4. As I suggested above And I'm in total agreement with you. Best way to manage wind in a kayak, IMO. Not that there won't be frustrations...
  5. You can try here in our Flea Market! Else, eBay, local papers, etc. Or perhaps trade in at a local kayak shop...?
  6. Strong winds can be the bane ... no, ARE the bane of kayakers whether paddlers, peddlers, or e-motorers. I use a motor on my kayak and don't carry an anchor except for my 7' anchor pin which I use in the shallows. I also don't fish deeper than 20'. And winds can be a beast in our local reservoirs, one of which is by an airport. Either way, I think a drift sock is probably your best bet seconded (added) by an electric motor option like the BassYaks, or one you do yourself.
  7. Welcome aboard! Reminiscing is definitely not against the rules
  8. I'd go MF, personally. I use MLXF for a lot of wacky, drop, and mojo rigging and it's got plenty of backbone. I think the MF or even a MXF would be plenty for a TX rig. I us MXF Shimanos and Carbonates and fish TX rigs in heavy cover, light cover, and no cover.
  9. Welcome aboard, Joel. Well, if you don't want to break, go heavy line, braid at 40# and up......but... Me? I think that's overkill. I've caught dozens of 6# bass in my local reservoirs on 10# braid with a leader from 6-15#. I mostly use 6 and 8 pound leaders. My PB was caught in thick slop on a 10# leader.
  10. Welcome aboard, Alex!
  11. Welcome aboard!
  12. Bizarre for me was the first time I encountered an otter in our local reservoir. First, I had no idea they were in the area. Second, it surfaced about 15 feet from me, quickly coming toward me with just its head and part of its body snaking thru the water. My startled blood-draining guess was that it was the largest python head I'd ever seen, but as a snake guy, I knew we didn't have them here in VA (yet). I backed up my kayak and made a phone call to the Ranger station and asked if we had otters here. Freaked me out then, but I've seen a number of them over the years since....
  13. Well you are absolutely at the right place! You'll learn a lot here I know I have.
  14. Welcome aboard, Isaiah! The sponsor of this forum is a reel repair expert and will chime in soon.
  15. Welcome aboard! And what @Mike L said...spinning. You can do it with casting, I have, I just prefer spinning for its ability to be less headachy in windy conditions.
  16. Welcome aboard! Have a go at the links from @Choporoz, I was going to recommend the second one as it's a fairly common question we see on the forums.
  17. 10# or 15# braid plus copoly leader 6-10#
  18. Yup. That kid. Though I've met "older" kids than that who swear they almost caught a 9 pounder off the dock... right over there! Dude, it was at least 9, maybe 10 or 11 pounds!!!

    Welcome aboard!
  24. Welcome aboard! If bait casting piques your interest, then by all means give it a try. I actually pared down my bait casting gear as I've been using my spinning gear more again. To each his or her own. Give it a try.
