I can moderately skip with a bait caster, but to be honest, I'd just rather do so with my spinning setups. I was determined to learn it because it is a cool thing to be able to do with a BC. And doing so with a BC is a badge of honor, as it is a difficult thing to master. But if it doesn't make your day more productive (i.e., digging out professional overruns), then you may be better off doing what works best for the skill... Spinning. Just my humble .02.

Hmmm. Well, of the plastics I actually use, assuming all of them, 6mo - 1 year. Of those I have and don't use, 2 years or so.

No problem! I love Croix rods, but it wasn't really until I used their upgrade program for the Avid and switched to a Legend Tournament rod. Crisp is the word for that rod! I imagine your Elite is even moreso. And I've got Stradic FI and FJ reels, not a Stella. But a Stella is a thing of beauty, you're fortunate to have one 10# braid is a fine starting point. Breaking strength is usually over 10#. I like yellow braid since it is easier to see when line watching.

10# Power Pro has the same diameter as 2# mono. 15# Power Pro is equal to 4# diameter mono. Point being, they're quite small diameter lines that are quite strong. Throwing on a 4# - 15# leader makes for some exciting fights. Braid is simply more manageable than mono/copoly/fluoro lines. Braid is a weave of spectra or dyneema lines....

Those are some absolute beasts! Big bull reds, eh? Not much of a salty guy even though we live right by saltwater. We occasionally fish of a community dock, but more my kids than me. I'm pretty much a fresh water bass fisherman though and through.

Here's the latest from 3/19: (you can sign up for this report: http://blog.wildlife.virginia.gov/outdoor-report/2016/03/fishin-report-21/ Chickahominy Lake: Contributed by Captain Art Conway of Conway’s River Rat Guide Service, (804) 746-2475. On Saturday (3/19/2016) mid day water temperatures in Chickahominy Lake were in the low 60s in the main lake and up the creeks. The lake level was about even with the top of the dam. The water was light brown and very slightly cloudy in the central lower lake. Some blue cats and a few bullheads were still in channels and winter holes, but others had moved onto flats and into creeks. Cats were hitting live minnows and cut bait. Crappie action was picking up as loose aggregates migrated into major creeks and began assembling in spawning sites. Active crappie were hitting live minnows, Wright Bait Co. and Southern Pro curlytail jigs, small tubes, Kalin crappie scrubs, and small swimbaits. Small to medium yellow perch were scattered or in loose aggregates on some main lake flats and in channels and on flats in major creeks and were hitting live minnows, small drop shot baits, and small jigs. Small to medium bluegill and shellcracker were starting to accumulate along some shorelines in major creeks and were hitting small jigs. Some bass, pickerel, and bowfin were along shorelines, on flats, and along drop offs in the major creeks. When active, bass and pickerel were hitting live minnows, spinnerbaits, swimbaits, stickworms, crankbaits, jerkbaits, and jigs.
