  1. Hey Chris- Have you done a search on the forums on this topic? There is a lot of information that has been discussed already on the subject. There are a lot of us that are Yo-Zuri Hybrid fans, me included. I'm also a fan of P-Line Floroclear. But I use both as leaders only, not mainline. McCoy gets some good reviews, tho I've not tried it. Give it a try and see if it fits your fishing style!
  2. I have caught yellow perch, white perch, crappie, bluegill/sunfish varieties, american eel, pickerel, warmouth, mud turtles, snapping turtles, and one 14 lb striper when bass fishing. Oh, and one pigeon, LOL. I cast my worm and it flew right into it, or grabbed it, I'm not sure. Fortunately it flew into a tree, got free and took off. I got my worm back none the worse for wear. Always fun catching the unexpected...well, unless it is a hideously slimy american eel, and you want to retrieve your hook w/o touching it (and are w/o grippers).
  3. This. There's something the bass are eating if it isn't shad.
  4. Noisy braid has never really bothered me, to be quite honest. I suppose it is all in the ear of the fisher. That said, I notice it, but it isn't bothersome to my ear. I use regular Power Pro. I'd say Sufix Performance Braid was a little noisier.
  5. I do both, but definitely use a weight more.
  6. I don't keep my stuff with me. Sometimes I wish I did but I think I'd need a compact travel rod setup for that. However, my gear is usually at the ready at home. Just back up the truck under the kayak, roll up the bed cover lower the yak, tie it off, place the rods in the back and I'm ready to go.
  7. For me the pain used to be in my elbows, but rest, pushups, among other things really helped. I did use elbow braces of different kinds while I was working on resolving the problem(s). So I don't have any issue with using braces to alleviate pain. Will you become dependent? Maybe, if you do nothing to work your wrists when not fishing. Good suggestions above. In addition to monitoring your fishing style, on the non-fishing end you could also get one of those hand squeezers/grips, even guitar finger strengtheners will work. I mentioned pushups helping my elbows -- when I did these I could feel the warmth of the blood flow into my elbows and this greatly helped over time.
  8. I see this is your first post on the forums, Mason, welcome aboard! Not much of a crank fisherman myself, but I've thrown cranks on 8 to 15 pound test. Since it isn't a staple of mine, I don't put too much thought into it like others do.
  9. I am using a ML Carbonlite bait casting setup for soft plastics (wacky mostly) and it works very well. But not all ML rods are alike. A noodly ML rod would not work well for hook setting (IMO), you want a fast or extra fast taper.
  10. Can't recall ever doing so. I think I'd remember if I did, LOL. For bass, that is. I've used rigs that I've caught multiple sunnies on...
  11. Welcome aboard!
  12. How much are you wanting to spend? You can go straight kayak (paddling) or peddle kayak like the Hobie Outback, Pro Angler ($$$), or you can take most any kayak and mod it with a trolling motor (what I did). For rivers, Jackson makes the Coosa which is designed for river bassing. I have a Native Ultimate, which some use on rivers, and in salt water. But I don't. I mostly stick to smaller waters, reservoirs. Feel Free makes a new boat called the Lure, they also have the Moken both of which have a wheel-in-the-keel allowing for easier mobility getting to and from places. Native and Wilderness Systems make great yaks. Others will chime in here. You can, and should if you have the opportunity, go to a kayak store near you and talk with the folks there.
  13. Kayak. Can get to more places than I can by foot. No contest for me.
  14. Fortunately I've had nothing but great experiences with Floroclear. Aware others have not. I probably won't venture far from YZH and Floroclear except for pure fluorocarbon (which I have several spools of - XPS). Have tried other brands of copoly, but keep returning to the aforementioned two. And I've now got a lot more YZH than Floroclear, LOL.
  15. That'll play! I'll change it up for my purposes to be a 6'6" MF spinning rod with 10 lb braid + leader. Though I could probably say a 6'3" would work fine as well. But all-around 6'6" is probably good.
  16. I'm stoked to break my current PB. Every time I hook a beast I hope to break it. When they jump just off my yak, out of my reach, and spit the hook, sadness follows, LOL.
  17. P-Line's FAQ says this (I had to find this on another forum as I can't find it on P-Line's site anymore): Q: What is the difference between Floroclear and CX-Premium? A: Floroclear has about 30% more fluorocarbon, and is a more true castable fluorocarbon line. Floroclear is clear, while CX-Premium has a slight fluorescent tint to it. Floroclear has about 10% more stetch than the CX-Premium. Floroclear also has smaller line diameters at respective pound test sizes. Floroclear is slightly stronger in breaking point at respective pound test sizes.

Ah. I couldn't tell what he was holding. But I just replayed the beginning and zoomed in. You're correct. Thanks.
  19. I will take one spinning rod with me, and 2 casters. I use casting gear the most - two Chronarch 50e models with 20 lb yellow PP + leader. The worm setup (Chronarch + 6'6" Carbonlite) will get 6 or 8 lb leader, the "hard" lure setup will get 8-15 lb test. My spinning rod (1000FI + 6'6" Carbonlite) gets anywhere from 4-8 lb test leader. I'll switch out to heavier leaders in spawn... 10-15 lb test.

I really makes life better. Can't remember where I saw that tip. Might've been in the Bass Pro reviews, or another forum. It isn't easy to explain, hope it makes sense to you.

I have not seen any black or chrome Speed Clips -- I'm assuming he's talking about Norman Speed Clips? They only come in an un polished stainless steel as far as I know.
  22. Welcome to another kayak fisherman!
  23. I've actually been using Yo-Zuri Hybrid again lately in 4 lb, 6 lb, and 8 lb test leaders on all my gear. Have had a good run with YZH the last few months, so haven't used PL Floroclear much, though it is still probably my favorite. I was pondering tying a leader on yesterday when I realized I didn't have any with me....
  24. I should always clarify my comments on line with the fact I use non-braid as a leader-only. I do not spool any of my reels with straight mono/copoly/fluoro any more. My stash of line includes a lot of 600 yard spools of Yo-Zuri Hybrid, and a lot of P-Line Floroclear. Floroclear is awesome line. When I did spool it straight, it was the most limp of lines I had. As well, I go from 6 to 15 lb test in P-Line. I believe I used 6 or 8 when spooled straight. Both of those were great.
