    Fantastic! Congrats!
  11. I'm assuming your budget includes hardware for mounting (transducer arm, battery, etc.)? If that's the case, and if you're not a DIYer, look at these transducer mounts so you can price out battery and fish finder appropriately. http://kayakfishinggear.com/search.aspx?find=transducer+mount FWIW, I built my own, but if I had it to do today, I would likely buy one of these. The one I built is similar to the $22.99 Trax system version, but I mounted mine to a cutting board/mount.

    Welcome aboard!
  13. Great stuff, Steve! Congrats!
  14. Which is what I do, too. But it is those times when there is little to no wind and the glasses fog up. It does help moving them away from my eyes a little bit, but not entirely.
  15. I was just researching the topic on the web - because it was a good thread to start, crank! - and the word from "those in the know" is NOT to use coatings, in particular, anti-fog coatings because they will have a bad effect on the multiple layers of coatings that Costa puts on their lenses. Not sure if the JAWS product will be a problem, being eco-friendly and all that. But now I'm scared to take a chance! Obviously need to do more research.
  16. That's definitely interesting to know. I'm going to look into that stuff. Thanks, Yeti!
  17. Glass lenses? Mine fog on certain days when it is hot and humid going from a cool environ to the outside. Used to have something I think called "no fog" that I'd rub on my glasses (back when I wore glasses). Can't remember if it worked well or not, to be honest. Once the glasses adjust to the conditions, do they stop fogging? I should say that there's a second issue, that is when it is hot and I'm sweaty and wearing a hat. I end up having to take them off for a spell because there's just no breeze to cool me down.

Welcome aboard, Ryan! Plenty of info here to get you started.
  19. Same here. I LOVE the 1000 size and have had no problems with pulling at least a couple dozen 6 pounders in with 1000FI Stradics. Love the size and there's plenty of drag to deal with anything. If the drag is not enough, my hand against the spool adds to the drag in order to fight the fish. Easily done. *EDIT* Since I've never pulled in a HUGE freshwater fish, I shouldn't say "anything". A several hundred pound sturgeon, or such would probably tax the reel. LOL.
  20. I've been out in T-storm watches and warnings ("worse" than "chance of") - always with an eye to the sky and my iPhone handy checking the radar often. Fortunately I've got a good connection at my favorite lake and get up-to-the-minute. I've missed some huge storms as a result, in the nick of time. No sooner is my yak loaded in the back of my truck that the wind starts howling, the rain blowing sideways, and lightning everywhere.
  21. Sedona and President are good reels. I personally prefer Shimano reels. They just feel better in my hands, among other reasons. Subjective reasoning, as are all opinions. My advice to you, spend time - if you can - in a local sporting goods store (or a Bass Pro) testing each reel. Flip the bail (and back - by hand), test out how it feels when you reel it. Does it rock (uneven feeling) in your hand, or does the reel body stay centered, and is reeling smooth. Also, ask to test out a reel from the box, not necessarily one out on display as those have been handled by everybody, and may be in bad shape. I spent time on forums and was strongly leaning to a particular brand until I went into the store and tried them out for myself. I did not go with the brand recommended on the forums. So keep that in mind. Make up your own mind doing your own research with your own hands on experiences. Otherwise you may regret your purchase because what I may love, you may hate.
