  1. Ah. Explains the "new" look. 12 footers are the longest I like, as well. Started with a 10 foot yak, loved the maneuverability, but there was too little storage space. Moken is making some pretty nice stuff with the new Lure series. Got to get some hands-on with the 11.5 down in the Hampton branch of the Appomattox River Company. Nice unit. Need to see if the seats can hang in there. Read of some issues with the in-between settings. Anyhow, love to see where technology and innovation can take kayaking designs....
  2. Can't say anything about the longer rod, but no, the FJ do not come with spare spools. Believe that ended with the FI models (I have 2 Stradic 1000 FIs with spare spools -- fantastic reels). FWIW, the 1000 FI balances fantastic with a BPS carbonlite 6'6" MF... that's the longest I've used them with. They balance well with everything I've used so far. Believe I had one mounted on a 6'8" carbonlite in a BPS when I was testing them out - this was several years back. Light as a feather combo.
  3. Looks like a great time. Is your new Commander a 14 footer?
  4. Welcome aboard!
  5. You can wacky just about any bait that has a decent horizontal presentation. I love rigging Zoom Finesse worms wacky style. I'll rig both weighted, and weightless.
  6. < rant > I like Jeremy Wade and his show, as well, but Discovery Communications has lost a lot of my respect of late. I can deal with the drama of River Monsters, even though Larry Dahlberg catches many of the same fish without the added, edited, drama. Still a good show. But when they venture into downright fabrication for sake of TV, I don't like it. At least Discovery channels used to be about "real science"...but times have changed, I suppose. I realize their shows are money-makers, and lots of fun for many, but I prefer when "science" is actually real, and not pseudo-science. Where real scientists aren't lied to, or given sketchy info so as to keep them aboard to finish the shoot, then edited to make it look like they support a dubious claim such as a "Voodoo Shark". Shark Week, in particular, has been a study in underhanded, downright deceptive behavior on behalf of the channel. http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/science-sushi/2014/08/12/shark-week-ratings-down/ http://www.theverge.com/2014/8/13/5998745/how-shark-week-screws-scientists http://www.the-scientist.com/?articles.view/articleNo/40760/title/-Shark-Week--Veers-Into-Fiction-------Again/ Man, I'm going to go back to watching History Channel's Ancient Aliens. Now THERE's real stuff. <JOKE> </ rant over >

  11. Nice review. Very interesting new product. I like my Norman Speed Clips, and since I just bought a 50 pack, no need to change -- for now.
  12. Welcome aboard!
  13. Unbelievable talent both as comedian and serious actor. He's one of my all time favorite people. I'm very sad at this news... Genie will forever rest in his lamp. On Twitter I said "a light of immense laughter just went out in the universe". Nobody will ever replace Robin.

  20. Welcome aboard. Depending on your platform, you can use something like "Preview" on the Mac and simply Save As, choose a down-scaled size of the image. Have but don't use Windows anymore. I'm sure regular Win users can give you tips there. There are online sites you can also google which will scale down images for you.
  21. Welcome aboard. Never fished Martinsville res, so no clue. I'd try Mojo-rigging from the shore out, assuming there are drop-offs, too, maybe hit with drop shot. Try some Gary Yamamoto Shad Shaped worms nose hooked in standard colors (watermelon, green pumpkin, black, variants). Try weighted wacky rigs for the deeper waters using 4 or 5" Senko/style baits in same colors and varying patterns. My 2 cents....worth just as much
  22. Welcome aboard, Rob!
