  4. Welcome, Kevin. Used to live in Lima and Caledonia myself. But don't miss the cold weather one iota now :-).
  5. I didn't recommend brand, so let me do so: Gamakatsu. When money is an object, I opt for Bass Pro's XPS brand. They are sharp out of the bag, but don't tend to stay that way in my experience. Gammys are by far my favorite here.
  6. I was first sold on round-bend hooks by a tourney fisherman. Others swear by EWG, but I have since preferred O'Shaughnessy bend which is quite similar to the round, but has a slightly more angled hook bent. Not recommending these specific hooks, just showing you what I'm talking about: http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-XPS-Magna-OShaughnessy-Hooks/product/74178/

  8. Welcome aboard! Now is your introduction title a reference to Electric Company, or The Goonies ... or both

  11. Welcome to the forums, Blake. Plenty of reel experts here, bound to give you some advice.
  12. Tragedy aside, I had a rather similar experience with an irritated beaver slapping the water warning me to turn around. My heart must've skipped three beats. But I also had a river otter surface within 10 feet of my yak. I had no clue what it was at first because I wasn't expecting it, and I was unaware we had otters in our reservoir. 'Bout scared the you know what outta me. And I've since encountered other otters in the family there. Still startles when unexpected.
  13. Welcome aboard, Chris!

  15. Yeah, pretty much agree with you, Mark. I was going to add, but deleted to let the story speak for itself, that I never dangle my feet overboard and I fish fresh water 99% of the time. Only time I get out to wade is in the clear shallows. Not that I'm afraid of anything in the water....
  16. Very sad and tragic story here. Kayak fisherman killed in Maui shark attack identified http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/24114775/shark-attack-reported-at-little-beach-on-maui-details-at-hawaiinewsnowcom
