  1. I have seen some of the outdoor angler stuff at walmart, currently they have a bunch of hardbaits for 1.50 in bins. I like some of walmart's fishing stuff, they have good deals on a lot of stuff. I bought a gander mountain branded reel last year and was really dissapointed. As far as baitcast reels go, I'm going to stray away from the house brands.
  2. Gander Mountain has the Daiwa Laguna on sale for $30. I'd grab one of those before even thinking about Walmart's attempt at a baitcast reel.
  3. My best luck has been using a small lure with a big hook. They can really be picky when biting. They'll grab the bottom 1/3 of a lure and swim away without eating it, leading to strikeouts.
  4. Most of my fishing is done in shallow water and I almost exclusively use a #4 splitshot for dropshotting. They work, if you get snagged, the sinker slips off and you don't lose the whole rig. And on top of that they are super cheap!! I wouldn't use a tungsten dropshot sinker, at least not in my waters. I would lose too many too fast.
  5. Largemouth bass, covered in oil!
  6. Love the beginning of this song-
  7. The Lagunas were $30 right after xmas and I picked up 3 of them. (Bait Monkey) I bought an Aird last year and wish I would have waited now! I haven't fished with the lagunas yet but they feel really solid and well built for a $60 reel. These deals are really testing my self control.
  8. I work with a guy that has an avocet, says he likes it. They feel decent in hand, for 15 bucks I probably would have picked one up too.
  9. The pecan man got his win! You knew it was only a matter of time for Evers. Dude has been fishing so well for a long time and exceptionally well it seems like that past 3-4 years. Congrats to him, well deserved!
  10. No I am not Aaron Martens has 6-8 aaand the rest of my picks haven't caught a fish yet.
  11. I don't think the Lightning rod would be that much better than the Pro max that you have currently. I believe the pro max rod is equivalent to Abu's vengeance series of rods, which are about $50 rods.
  12. Took advantage of the Sebile sale. 3 colors of the lipless crank, 3 colors of the bull crank, and 2 colors of the smaller bull crank. I bought 4 of each color. Total came to around $78. Not bad for 32 quality hardbaits!
  13. At this point you chop the zinker in half and Ned rig it!
  14. Jerkbaits are an awesome way to fish. My favorites are the RC STX (Ito 110 knockoff), and the old Xcalibur stickbait (xs4/xEE4)which is no longer made (same shape as suspending rogue). I also like Lucky craft pointer 78 (100 size wasn't my cup of tea), and the Rapala Husky Jerk has a similar action to the old Xcaliburs, but they don't cast as well and usually don't suspend out of the box. I did have one Spro McStick for awhile before I broke it off. I like it, it caught fish, and the hooks were wicked sharp. Never bought a replacement though haha.
  15. I'm with this guy. If you know you want a really long rod for frogs then go for it. But it would get too heavy for me to walk the frog all day. And it would be too long for me to effectively walk it. I actually use a 6'6" rod more than half the time for frogs, and I have no problems with it. If you're looking at fast action fenwicks, I can tell you that the new HMG's have a faster action than the older models. I have the 7' MH fast action, and I would consider it extra fast.
  16. You can dropshot ANYTHING, and it will catch fish. 4-6 in worms of any shape, minnow style baits, small paddle tail swimbaits, craws and creatures (some people cut a beaver down the middle the long way and drop shot half of that). Some of my favorite lures though are the Berkley powerbait twitch tail minnow, BBB shaking squirrel, YUM Sharpshooter, Zoom swamp crawler, and any 3-4 inch senko style lure.
  17. Okay if we are gonna talk about bassin youtubers, let's talk about keepinitreel fishing. The dude does rediculously meticulous in depth reviews on lures. Which is awesome in my book. Kevin Bullington also has a lot of reviews out there on lures.
  18. Never too early for trout fishing! early C&R season opened up on January 2nd this year. I caught one the weekend after that and I caught this one a couple weeks ago! Inline spinners work well. I like fishing a small spoon in deeper pockets, and live worms will always catch a few.
  19. I don't own any spybaits of yet, but if I did, I would treat color selection like I treat suspending jerkbaits. For spybaits, I'd only be throwing them in clearer water, most of the time really clear water. 2 colors, one has to be a translucent or ghost type color. For the 2nd color, I wouldn't stray too far away from the first, either a similar color but opaque, or maybe a similar translucent color that has a little chartreuse on it. Just something to make me feel like it is getting seen better if I think the fish are more active or the water has a touch more color than I'd like.
  20. Just placed my order. I didn't have to pay shipping.
  21. Smallies like the smaller size bull crank. I threw it for a while at this location, it works well over rocks, I liked the action of mine. No bad things to say about it really .
  22. Try Farm & fleet in Chippewa ( I work there) , Fleet Farm or Dunham's in Menomonie, cheaper kayaks than Scheels or Gander. I have an 8' sit in kayak that is rather small, but my store got it in by accident and sold it to me for $60. Far from an ideal yak, but it gets me from one end of the pond to the other. Goals for this year are to fish more, fish for more species more often, and fish new waters. Simple, but rewarding if I break out of my comfort zone.
