I need some input on the Powell 683
I've had the Powell Max 683 for about 2 yrs now. I would say the 683 is a little too lite for your desired applications. The tip is more suited to treble hook applications. Smaller cranks and topwaters. It is a great rod for what it was intended. A 684, 704 or a 734 might better be suited for you. I've got these as well. Nick O Wow, I have a 682 CEF, 683CEF, 684CEF, 703CEF, 704CEF, CB684, GlassCB702, GlassCB703, GlassCB754, and I have never felt like the 683CEF would feel like a treble hook rod. The intended uses printed on the rod are pretty much spot on for my taste.

Awesome all around utility rod. You'll love it. Might be a little light for froggin though.

Crankbait Tuning Questions
Before you actually start bending the loop, make sure that the split in the split ring hasn't shifted after a few fish and hanging up at the loop. That could hinder the action. I change to oval split rings or use a snap to avoid this. If that isn't the issue go slow, don't bend too much or you could ruin the bait completely.

Daiwa Fans
Thanks guys, I think I may try an Alphas, 1.2 oz and the color is making me lean in that direction.

Daiwa Fans
Where does the weight savings come from? Is the spool different? Does the Alphas reel have the upgraded lightweight spool? Would I be better off looking for another Sol? Only reason for going with the Alphas right now is the paint. Kind of like the dull look.

Is the Alphas F that much better than a Sol? Yeah it's an obvious answer, but what it is that makes it so much nicer. Just thinking about getting one. I want a new light cranking reel.

Rods for occasional use or guests
Nothing, there's enough stuff in the workshop that whoever fishes with me that needs gear is basically using the same stuff as I am. Why offer a guest less than what I'm using.

Want to try micro guide rod....advice on which one!
Can't recommend a certain brand, but I wrapped a few for way less in components than any that have been mentioned. Either way I think you will like micro guide rods.

Where to buy tackle these days?
Wherever I see something I need or like.

Jigs with Spinning Gear
To me there are more efficient ways to cover the water at that distance than a jig. Just saying

Direct me to a floating worm!
Totally love these, try them with a light wire hook with a split shot or carolina rig. They work great. I really have to try the ribbon tails, they look really nice.

Acid rod or spiral rod.
I've heard of many of the positives of spiral wrapped rods, and agree that it has many merits, BUT I just can't bring myself to build one. It just looks wrong to me. :-/

micro guides?
I just built two rods on identical Rainshadow blanks. One with your usual Fuji Concept Alconite guides and one with Fuji Alconite Micros. With identical reels the rod with the micros does balance better and feels stiffer which does enhance the sensitivity imo. The rod with the concept guides balance point is a bit further up the blank, and compared to the micro rod really does feel a bit more tip heavy. Haven't really seen a significant increase in casting distance. Also when you get used to the look of the micros, the rod with the regular guides starts to look like a spinning rod. I like micro guided rods. Don't think I'll be using them in the winter though.

1/4oz Jig Storage: Falcon 710 > Falcon Wallet?
Tried the Falcon box, but I wasn't that happy with it. 1/4 oz jigs didn't stay that secure. Went back to a regular Plano compartment box or a handful of jigs in a small tackle binder, the ones with the bags so jigs and trailers are in one place.

How often do you buy ,or get a new rod, or reel,or combo.

favorite plastic company
I like Roboworms for my finesse presentations, but recently I have found myself putting on Strike King baits (Rage Tails, and the super stretchy finesse worms) more and more often. If I had to take my top few Robos Strike King Berkley Grande Bass

Split Grip or Full Grip whats your preference?
Split grip only because I like the way it looks as well. Also no foregrip for blank contact. All of the rods I build these days have a split gip, but I make them with a rear grip that is longer than found on factory rods. Usually 3-3 1/2 inches. Weight savings is a non issue, because when I build a rod regardless of handle style, I'm counterbalancing the butt of the rod to balance it out so it's not tip heavy. Overall weight of the rod is heavier than a non counterweighted one, but the balance is more than worth it.

Daiwa B/C gear swap?
Thanks, would you happen to have any part #'s

Daiwa B/C gear swap?
Will Daiwa Zillion crazy cranker gears fit into a Daiwa Fuego? I have 6 Fuegos and wouldn't mind turning one into a crankin reel.
