  1. I have to say this.... Mother bleeping success here as well!!! BINGO! LOL I threw a jig for the first time next to a spill well at the local lake where I knew there was some bubba's. I put a grub trailer on it...didn't have a chunk craw or anything close so it was a compromise. I threw it about five times....a good 40 ft out and about a 16ft drop....so it was about what 20ft out from the boat.....anyway.... I felt this weird feeling even though my baitcast rod is an old Shakesphere Alpha it didn't feel normal...even on superline so I set and holy crap! I had a fighter from the bottom! I never felt this before and actually came close to falling out of the boat! It took me probably 3 minutes to get it up from the bottom...1.5 to 2pounds! So I think I did something right....twitch rod about 6 to 12inches up and follow down keeping tension on line to feel the bottom. wait a second or three and repeat. Anyway....great time today....just wish I had more time....battery started to lose amps. Matt
  2. PM sent! BTW...there are two because I forgot to add the technique to the first one. Sorry! Matt
  3. I agree with above... Even the ol firetiger works for me from time to time!
  4. I bought one of these probably when I was 16 and LOVED it! Granted at the time I didn't realize it was considered a saltwater lure and had stainless hooks. But bass loved it! Well a couple years ago I lost it to a musky that hit it on a backwoods creek and ever since I couldn't find it online. or in a store anywhere! I searched last night and BAM! found 3 brand new ghost colored ones like i had for 6 bucks a piece! Regular 14 bucks! Bought all three w/ shipping for 24!!!! Trust me, it was like Christmas last night....just finding these things still for sale!
  5. Great lure for trolling as well. We used them a couple weeks ago and just about everything likes them! Matt
  6. Great job man! I would love to make custom rods someday when I get settle in after we build our house!
  7. The weather has been horid here in northern WV. I have only caught one LM...a couple crappie and one cat. Water temp is all over the meter ever time i go and every hot spot that was productive last year is dead. Oh well....I enjoy just getting out!
  8. I agree with the above.... I originally learned this presentation on a 6' Ugly Stik Med. Now you know these rods will literally almost do a 360 before breaking...so that being said It was like trying to brush cut with a weed. I am looking and going probably this evening to Gander Mountain to get the St. Croix Avid Model AVS66MF Looks to be a great all around rod but with the length and features I need to work different lures effectivley
  9. We had the same issue with the pond that is on our plant property now....great fishing for years...filled from the local mine with the water that was used from the coal prep plant so it was always nice and warm. Well once construction started...4 years of no fishing!!! Man the 8 months me and two other guys had on the pond and all the lures lost and lines busted from wicked strikes and the monsters we pulled in was amazing! That is until the new plant manager came and saw three of us in a 10ft Jon boat.....LOL No fishing the pond anymore...dern us!
  10. Man....our wally world sucks bottom! Even though Cabela's is only 20 minutes from me...you think the local would keep even Strike King on hand or something other than just Eagle Claw and Mustad hooks....don't forget those Water Gremlin split shot! LOL Matt
  11. So I have pretty much ruled out the Carrot Stix because of several of the reasons I have read on here and the breakage some experience. I fish all around from cranks to spinners to worms and such. What would be a good rod in the 150 price range? St. Croix Avid is what I'm looking at now...but always open for suggestions! I small boat fish more and bank sometimes along creeks and things of that nature. Thanks! Matt
  12. So i finally decided to try a better line than mono....I have always used Stren Sensation....but figured I would give superline a try. I purchased the Fireline Crystal and relled a 1/3 of the spool on my Pflueger President with Stren Sensation and the rest with the Fireline. Should I run a Fluoro leader? Any other thoughts? Thanks! Matt
  13. I do it all the time! The problem I run into though is that alot of the one's that I pass is to and from work...and most all are on plant property of either Bayer, PPG, AEP, or Certainteed (where I work) so I end up getting run off at least twice a month. LOL But when I travel I always take my tackle and throw a line whenever I can! Matt
  14. Thanks for the helpful responses! Going next weekend to Cabelas so I will pick one up. Thanks again! Matt
  15. I have several people at work that have them and have given away their old rods because they love them that much. Any thoughts? I am very interested to see what you all think.... Thanks, Matt
  16. I bought a can from wal-mart last night for 4.99. Though I hate that store with a passion..... LOL
  17. As for the bearings i'm unsure IMO.... But for the grease gun I have the same issue from time to time and its not so much the air thats not getting purged out...but the plunger is not going up into the grease tube. I use Lucas EP-2 and being a cardboard tube sometimes causes the pluger to catch and I have to fiddle with it to get it to start pushing grease up. I use to use Morey's Red EP-2 but they quit selling it at NAPA and it was a plastic tube with no issues. Good luck!
  18. HAHA, yes... I was looking for a cleaner way of doing it. I have wire ties now on there...but with such a long cable things can and will happen.
  19. Well I bought the Rig-Rite trolling motor mount and have used it several times with good result...but there is several things that concern me here.... 1. I have come very close to pinching the cable when folding the trolling motor up for transport. 2. The cable sometimes gets loose enough to get back towards the prop. Would it be better to mount the transducer on the back right pontoon about 2inches up from the actual bottom so It doesn't bottom out when casting off and shoring. This would allow the cable to be run inside the boat and no worry of the cable getting pinched or cut from the prop. As for the mounting screws just use marine grade silicone to seal it up tight. :-/ Let me know your thoughts. Thanks! Matt
  20. Agree with above. I have the 55 and need another battery...especially when its wind....i find myself using the scoot and poot setting more to get me into the areas more effectivley...but my fishing time becomes very limited...about 2 hours if i am lucky. Matt
  21. Welcome from your northern panhandle town of Moundsville! Very pretty country down your way. I visit Nicholas and Webster Co sometimes and down your way at least once a year. Don't worry about the tackle amount...learn to use what you have and the skill for more comes in time....so does that dern bait monkey! LOL Matt
  22. I use spinning tackle for everything...but...this year i tried an old baitcaster i got when i was 16 and man...a little back yard pluggin' and i was loving the feel of the rod and the better sensitivity overall. So i am looking into a better reel and stick for later this season to learn how to better use it and starting running deep diving lures more. Matt
  23. I guess what I was asking was if this is a more all around color in comparison to a color for dark or clear water. Like a lure is a lure...meaning they all catch fish. Sorry...i recently just got hooked on buzz baits after I would never touch one in years. So just getting a feel for the whole color thing is my downfall.
  24. So really a shad color is a shad color then?
