  1. I think it's a stupid idea!! I'm just saying that because it was Bobby's idea tho. What is the idea btw?? LOL T hit and run II
  2. Carters is arguably the best Float N FLy lake in Georgia. Lots of quality fish are being caught this winter. We are using Georgia Tackle Custom flies in Spot Sushi color mostly. Leader lenghts are anywhere from 9 to 15 feet. I'm using 10lb braid and 6 to 8lb Triple Fish fluorocarbona nd it's a ton of fun catching fish on light line. It will take you close to 10 minutes to land a 5lb spot. Here is a sample of fish caught during this float n fly season.
  3. It's very difficult to tell how bit the spots are in those videos. Heck it's difficult enough with photos. Spots don't picture well at all. Here is more info on the WR spot. http://www.insideline.net/2001/news/world-record-spot.html
  4. Kent, If you can't beat them join them. Best thing I have found is the Float N Fly. Match the hatch and go to work. This from yesterdays trip. Water temp 42 to 44 and the river is frozen as far into the lake as I have ever seen it. Feels like I live up North or something LOL
  5. Gene introduced me to Ron. Good guy.. Very nice shop. One of my other favorites is Hammonds in Cumming, GA and Natures Tackle Box in Hiram, GA. Christie at Natures has awsome service! Hammonds is probably the biggest and best tackle shop in the South (atleast that I know of). They are fixing to open up a new super store next week. Mike
  6. Gregory, I don't think the DNR could state something like that in an article without the poop hitting the fan. Once spots are in the lake their really is no way to get them out.. Alot of the north GA lakes used to be primarily Largemouth lakes. Now many of them are 90% spots 10% largemouth. Even some of the famed Largemouth Lakes like West Point are quickly becoming known as spot lakes. IT will more than likely trickle down the Chattahootchie towards Eufaula and Seminole. Everything on the Coosa already has a significant Spotted Bass population. Mike
  7. They do booger up a fishery due to their aggressiveness and people think smallies are meaner I love'em. Sucks that they wipe out other species but I still love catching them.
  8. If your from Marietta, GA then your lakes have been take over by spots for over 10 years now LOL.
  9. LOL I can relate to #7 . Deadly!
  10. I agree with you 100% . They are all old school lures that don't get much attention.. Don't forget to add the spoon to the list of good suspended fish lures Mike Underspins have been around since the 60's, dart heads with underspins since the 70's, a fish head is a dart heat flatten. What was new was the tiny willow leaf blade. It's like saying Tom Mann invented the little George type tail spinner when that lure came out in the 50's as a Spin Rite by Pedigo. Mann's little George was a better shape and more successfully marketed as a bass lure as was Sworming Hornets, both excellent lures. I have a great deal of experience with Scroungers, tail spinners and underspins and was fishing them in the 70's for bass. What is important the tail spinners, underspins and scroungers are all good suspended bass lures. WRB
  11. Thanks guys . There are actually 3 different versions of my float n fly article . BAG got one version, BassWest another (written by good friend Terry Battisti) and my personal one that Glenn has. They all cover pretty much the same thing just written differently I got the FREE seminar version coming on Nov 12th @ Natures Tackle Box in Hiram, GA 6:30pm. See link here for more info. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1256090987 It's a extremely effective technique and it's silly how well it works and the average size fish you catch on those itty bitty flies Mike
  12. I don't think Aarons fish had lockjaw LOL. He just needed to find a bait that could get that he could suspend that deep and represent a shad. There aren't too many baits that you can effectively use for suspended fish compared to the amount of bottom baits, sub surface and topwater baits available. I personally think fishing for suspended fish is something the general public has garnered as uncatchable. I honestly feel my odds are better at catching a trophy fish that is suspended than one that is on the bottom. I know that's contradictory to what the books say but 90% of my 5lb + spots are suspenders. If your a spotted bass guy you'll be lost many times of the year if you don't learn how to catch suspended fish. There are ways around it but not as consistant.
  13. Actually WRB the actual Fish Head Spin by Sworming Hornet came out right before that time frame of that Lake Norman Classic. Wasn't too much earlier maybe by a year or so if I remember correctly. Rick Steckleberg lives here locally and was the designer of the Fish head and is a staple in these parts and has been since it came out. But there was a rift between Aaron and Sworming Hornet about what bait was used at the Classic as apparently there was a phone calll between the two during pre practice for the Classic so alot of assumptions flew from that. Then Pete's article came out and settled it. But you are correct about the Scrounger. It was made long before Aaron's version. He improved upon it from what I remember viewing pics of Mr. Waters version. Both are great baits in their own right.
  14. Actually WRB Aaron used a horsey head spin jig similiar to the Sworming Hornet. My friend Pete Robbins was with him on Day 2 and wrote an article in Bass West and stated exactly what he was using along with pics. There was speculation about him using a Fish Head Sworming Hornet bait but if he used it he certainly didn't use it on day 2 when Pete was with him and he didn't have one tied on on day 2. But essentially they pretty much serve the same purpose and both are great baits for suspended fish.. Mike
  15. Float N Fly seminar coming to Natures Tackle Box, Hiram, GA. NOVEMBER 12th 6:30pm I hope it is OK to post this in this forum. I will be giving a float n fly seminar to help raise some money for a disabled Veterans Dock program that we are trying to head up on Lake Allatoona. I will be going through the Float N Fly technique in extreme detail on the how, why, what, where and how come of the technique. If you struggled with the technique or have never tried it or want to learn a few more tips you won't want to miss this. If you want to enjoy catching TROPHY SIZED SPOTS this winter you definitely want to be in attendance!! After the seminar I will open the floor to any type of fishing questions you might have. Float N Fly, dropshot, spoon, electronics etc etc. and maybe I'll take just a few swimbait questions ~ Natures Tackle Box will also be rolling out some very creative and cool Float N Fly products (not just flies) that we have been working on and there is nothing like them anywhere.. I am also sure David Lester will be on hand and wouldn't mind showing you a few of his fly tying secrets in tying his Georgia Tackle's famous custom made "Spot Candy Float N Flies". We will also have "some" GOOD incentive buys from several companies and when I mean GOOD incentives I mean GOOD not just a few bucks off type deals, but they will be in very limited in quantities but everyone will have an opportunity. Some deals will be better than others, but if your interested in any of them you will be walking out with some VERY GOOD DEALS. Must be present the night of the seminar to participate in the incentive buys and it will be a ONE TIME deal.. Also we have decided to combine the Fall Bash Raffle and Seminar Raffle into a GIANT RAFFLE. Humminbird has donated a 597CI unit. Also to be raffled off will be a Float N Fly Rod, Georgia Tackle Float N Fly Kit, a Dobyns 795ML Swimbait rod, Lucky Craft Lures, 15lbs of Yamamoto plastics, Bull Shad, Tackle Doctors and many others being added as daily. All proceeds of the Raffle will be donated to the Lake Allatoona Disabled Veterans F.I.S.H Dock program where are raising money to build a Disabled Veteran Fishing Dock on Allatoona. You can buy tickets later this week at Natures Tackle Box or during the Allatoona Bash Tournament. The drawing for the Raffle will take place the night of the Seminar and you DO NOT need to be present to win. We have also determined the following price for raffle tickets: 1 ticket @ $3 2@$5 5@$10 15 @$20 50@$50. For more info on the seminar/raffle etc call Christie Lester at 678-567-1211 or post here.. Here is the flyer for the FREE Float N Fly Seminar.
  16. Bobby, I sent you an email thru the website. Did you get it? important. Mike
  17. Lucky Craft man, I am the prostaff manager for Lucky Craft. Does that mean my opinion isn't valid because I am associated with Lucky Craft??? So if I say that unconditionally Lucky Craft has some of the best hard baits available would I be lying?? Many of us believe in the products that we use and promote and we are here to help others with any questions that they might have. Most of us simply give input when a question is asked and that is what alot of the guys are doing here or correcting erronenous information... We are product experts and often give information that alot of companies can't even give using their 1 800 # because we have on hands knowledge of the product. We also offer customer service to a degree because of our close ties within the company. It is simply our job to do these types of things. Sure some staff guys are overbearing but there are alot of us out there that just want to help and give you good information to help you make a decision based on your needs. Respectfully Mike Bucca
  18. TONS of differences. Lighter, better balance, cork quality, cheaper warranty $20 vs $40 and a Tackle Tour Editors award in the Cranking Wars lineup. If you call or email You will talk with Gary or Richard Dobyns (Gary's son) and they will handle your warranty needs both are very well known fishing pro's out west (Gary just won the US Open and his 40th boat) and not only know the lineups but can give detailed applications on what rod is used for what and under what conditions.. Gary uses a high end Korean company to manufactur his rods. This company makes JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) type rods for the Japanese Market and last I know Gary is the only company that they make rods for sale here in the US?? Mr. Splash is correct there is NO lead added to the butt end of the rods for counter balancing in the G2 Series that I am aware of. Gen 1 there was counter balancing on some of the rods and was more inline at the Powell level. Hope your talking about the G1 rods.. Nope gen 2.... Or maybe I am misunderstanding what you are saying?

  20. Common myth is that suspended fish are inactive. Nothing further from the truth. if your a spotted bass guy fishing for suspended fish is a way of life. If you aren't comfortable working the middle depths you will always be fighting an uphill battle especially in the summer and deep of winter. My first choice would be the Fish Head spin, 2nd would be the spoon 3rd would be float N fly.. Reverse the order of this list in the winter. Mike Thanks for piping in. Is he just not getting his lures to those fish's level accurately enough -probably what you mean by not being comfortable with mid-depths? Also, would you say (quality-sized) LMs are in any way different from quality spots? In what way? Paul, What I mean is that alot of people don't fish for suspended fish because they think the are inactive or they just don't know how. I honestly feel that every fish needs to be coaxed some more than others but every fish has a strike zone granted some shorter than others.. Alot of people catch suspended fish but just don't realize they are in a suspended state. Every catch a fish at the boat while your sitting in 30ft of water?? Chances are likely that that fish was suspended. Having said that most anglers fish top, bottom or sub surface. Not many key in on mid level fish ie suspended. It's jup to us to figure out what the best method is for attacking these fish. I will say that that the BIGGEST of the biggest spotted bass that I catch the vast majority of them are caught while suspended. Mike

  22. What Randall said. You catch either species in any part of the lake but the general consensus is heads are more cover oriented and hang in the creeks and back of cuts and spots are more main lake oriented.
  23. Smartazz. All the guys from Jersey act like this Megastrike nut. Pay no mind to him. Right Dozer .
  24. Ahh come on Boobie . btw I just got an idea. email me mbucca@comcast.net yes you will make $$ "I think" . LOL.
