  1. Yep, doesn't matter if it's 3lbs or 8 or larger, it's always great when a buddy/child catches a new PB! Even better when it's you mentoring them.
  2. Ok, guess I'll try to show up and see. I've narrowed it down to two very different boats, the Radar 135 and the Jackson Bite. I'm not sure I need hatch covered storage and I like the openness of the Bite but I like the Radar's track system and the fact that I could add a pedal drive.
  3. Mostly do pond fishing for crappie but I've used a beetle spin in yellow/black with some success.
  4. Anyone know if they offer any decent discounts during their demo day? I don't know if I will wait that long to upgrade from my SINK, but a price cut might persuade me. Rick
  5. You're gonna get a whole lot of "let the fish tell ya" answers, and that's never a wrong answer. I've never let a stick bait sit more than about 30 seconds before moving it. This has worked, and I'll vary it between 0 and 30 seconds until the fish let me know and even then, who knows--each fish could be different. Now, with a topwater, I'll let it sit there as long as I can stand it before twitching it or starting the retrieve. My grandfather said that my great-grandfather would eat a sandwich between the time his topwater hit the surface and when he would twitch or retrieve. I don't think I've ever waited that long, but a couple minutes or so before moving it.
  6. Thanks! I assumed wrong, I thought it was the TB880, three day pack. This one will be lighter and less expensive which always helps. Update: ordered the one matbellon3 linked to and it was on sale plus I got 10% off for signing up for their newsletter. Total was $31 and change shipped, regularly 49.99 if anyone was thinking about pulling the trigger they are on sale until 4/6.
  7. Thanks for this! Gives me a far better idea what this bag can hold. Certainly looks like it'll work for my purposes too. Wait! I was stupidly assuming the model was the TB-880, three day tactical bag. Which model do you have?
  8. I did a minor search on these bags. Detailed pictures, particularly the bag with the compartments open were tough to find. Was pretty disappointed in WFS's site. Volumetric measurements, I think were in quarts, don't tell me a whole lot. I appreciate you saying it will hold 3-3700 boxes. Do you carry anything else in it? I'm looking for a backpack for wading for smallmouth and using in my kayak.
  9. I also get that state Senko fishing. I'm going to try jig fishing this year (been fishing for 55 yrs and only tried jigs a few times) and hope to get into that zone with the jig. I can get into that state a lot when I'm fly fishing for trout. Have had guys, including my father, walk right past me on the stream without even knowing they were there. My most difficult technique is skipping, but I'm working on it.
  10. I got the DVD's many years ago as a Christmas present. I thought they were fascinating and I learned quite a bit from them. I often fly fish for trout. I need to pull them out and rewatch.
  11. Third hand info coming: A cousin of mine said he'd heard good numbers and decent size coming out of there. Some 3-4 lbers which isn't bad considering the age of the lake. Take it with a LARGE grain of salt, it is third hand info after all. They flooded a couple of farm ponds when they filled it, I would imagine there are a few larger fish in there. I might give it a shot next year.
  12. I didn't fish it. Had to look it up because I didn't know they had changed the name from Rocky Pen. I'm interested in hearing about it too. I drove back there when they were getting it ready and was disappointed in how much they had stripped from the bottom. DGIF site says brush and stumps were left and artificial habitat was put in. While searching, a PDF from Stafford County came up stating that it was closed to fishing. They should really take that down since the DGIF site states that it is open and has been since July of 2017.
  13. Check http://www.rvparkreviews.com/regions/virginia/edinburg/creekside-campground-3390 Don't have any experience with it, just did a quick search but it got good reviews. Rick
  14. Big Stony west of Edinburg is a decent stocked trout option. I think it was stocked last week or week before. If you want wild brookies, check in the Park on a topo map for small streams. Almost any decent sized small stream will hold em. https://www.dgif.virginia.gov/fishing/trout-stocking-schedule/ will give you stocking and there is a link to a stocking map of all the stocked rivers. As always, pay close attention to regs. Park regs often differ from stocked water and you'll need a National Forest permit if you venture into a National Forest. Rick
  15. Sorry I wasn't clear. From my point of view, anything below where the old dam was, is lower Rapp since I do the majority of my river fishing above there for smallies. I have fished down around Tappahannock in the creeks, but it was a long time ago. There *are* some nice smallmouth just below the Falmouth bridge. I've fished the area around Little Falls Run from a kayak and kinda got an itch to try down around Hick's Landing.
  16. That is an awesome day on the Rapp. My dad has done quite a bit of fishing down that way and really knows how to work the current. It definitely helps and I need to get him out there so he can teach me. I haven't done a lot of fishing recently on the lower Rapp, but enough to know that doesn't happen very often. You've probably motivated me to give it another go.
  17. I live close to the Rapp. I doubt it's fishable with all the rain we got yesterday/last night. It was high and a bit muddy on Friday. You might find some water down around Tappahannock that's fishable, but I'd guess it won't be much better. I'll get a look at it later this afternoon and let ya know for sure.
  18. Thanks Glenn. I did a search on "journal" but it didn't turn up any direct matches in the first ten or so returns. Great site ya got!

  20. Who keeps a journal or notebook and actually refers to it or reviews it? Lemme guess, there's an app for that.... What did you find was the most helpful? My memory ain't what it used to be and for a while I kept a flyfishing (trout) journal, but didn't keep at it and rarely referred to it. I'm thinking about doing it for bass fishing and hope I'll be more diligent.
