  1. I have a new curado, but have never used the old gold sf's. I have a chance at a new in the box sf. Wondering if I should just get another new curado or the sf. I would end up spending about the same for either. Would like input from someone who has fished both.
  2. Kistler LTA's and LTX's M or MH are rated for lighter lures on average compared to other rods of the same power. Ebay is full of LTA's that are new(last years clearance) for $129.99! I have 2 LTA's and 1 LTX. Love them!
  3. 3 casting and 2 spinning. sometimes 3/3. any more than that and i worry about stepping on one ;D or my fishing buddies stepping on one!
  4. Chris W said it pretty well. Add a couple buzzbaits to the spinnerbait arsenal. Also, when asked the ultimate question, "if you only had one lure" a lot of people up here's response is the old fashion 1/8 or 1/4oz. jighead with a 3 or 4" white twister tail on it. A scented one preferably since they are so abundant these days.
  5. 10 or 12# trilene xl or trilene sensation. recently ordered some yo zuri hybrid after reading people raving about it on this site.
  6. I just responded to another thread on this forum about a similar issue immediately before reading this. My father and cousin swear by their berkley lightning rods for the $. $45 to $55 depending where at and what you get.
  7. If I had $100 give or take I'd try the sedona on a lightning rod. I believe the lightning rod is about the same $ as the sedona. I personally don't have a LR but my cousin and my father do. They are very avid bass fisherman but won't spend a lot of $ on set-ups. They both have told me that the LR is easily one of the best rods under a $100 for the $. Actually my cousin said he found his for like $45.
  8. I've broke 3 loomis rods over the years. One in a car door, one that was hanging outside the boat and hit the dock and the other my drunk buddy did the "ugly stick" test to while I watched in horror. NEVER on a fish!
  9. I'm going to assume you did the transaction outside of ebay. I personally have had all good experiences with ebay. However you have to do the deal through ebay and when buying something always check the sellers feedback rating. If they have anything less than 100% feedback rating click on their user name and you can read each of their transactions feedback individually. A couple of years ago my buddy bid on a 4-wheeler engine and was outbid. He later recieved a personal e-mail not through ebay that stated that the original buyer did'nt pay and they were giving my buddy a "second chance" offer. Even worse they wanted him to wire the $1,800 western union. I told him it sounded pretty fishy to me. He's stubborn and really wanted the motor so he sent the money. Never got a motor and never heard from the guy again. If you did do it through ebay you have a few options. Contact paypal like other members have stated or send him the reel back. Insist he credits your account first. Good luck, sincerely. Ebay is good if you practice a little caution.
  10. On ebay there are kistler argons on sale for $99(retail $199) and kistler helium lta's for $129.00(retail $229). Both offer a technique specific crankbait/topwater/spinnerbait rod. Like pgersumky said, you must consider what size bait you are using
  11. Definitely quality over quantity for me. It wasn't always that way however. Years ago, I used to think anything over $100 (whether it was rod or reel) was ridiculus. Then I broke down and bought my first G Loomis. Then 3 years ago my Dad gave me a curado because he had got a deal on 2 online. The rest is history. current line-up (casting): -chronarch 50mg on a 7' kistler lta medium -core 50mg7 on a 6'6" " " ltx mh -curado 200e7 on a 6'6" glx loomis 784c * note, I'm lucky my wife has no idea what is what with fishing equipment and what this stuff cost or I might be single soon ;D
  12. My 7' fast act. casting rods tip broke off. only 1" approximately. If I just glue a new tip on how much would this affect the rods action and performance? Would it just make it a x-fast. :-[
  13. If you are interested in a St.Croix AVID I have a used one. It is a 6'6" med. fast action. 6-12lb. line and 3/16 - 5/8 lure. Its a few years old and I did replace the tip. The rod did not break, but the ceramic fell out of the eye so I heated it up, pulled the old tip off and reglued a new one on. Very fishable rod. I'd be willing to give it to you for $80 shipped. If interested send me a pm.
  14. Just wondering if the new cumulus rods were any good? How do they rate next to a loomis glx or a kistler hel. ltx
  15. I've been using baitcasters for almost 30 years and just recently switched to braid. A little less line might help. I actually thought braid was more forgiving to me as far as backlashes go. Had to tinker with the cast control a little though.
  16. BeaverIslander is correct. The extra few dollars for the Citica would be well worth it.
  17. There is some stuff in in silver tin called Never Dull. It is a rockwool like material with an oily substance in it. Its usually by the car wax and polishing section in the store. On the can it states that it is great for polishing and cleaning a wide variety of surfaces, metals, chrome and fishing equipment. After using this product you just go over it again with a clean dry cloth. Works great for me. An occasional drop of oil in your worm gear is a must for baitcasters also. Lastly, IMO if you don't have a sealed rod box in your boat your reels should have covers on them. Gravel road dust is great for destroying reel bearings and gears.
  18. I also am new to braid. Last fall I switched a couple of my baitcasters to Power Pro. So far this spring I've switched most of my other set-ups to PP also. Noise going through the guides is my only complaint. Not a big enough concern for me not to use it however!!
