Need Help with Reel Selection
- First decent spinning reel?
I have a sedona, 2 symetre's, and a stradic fi. Don't be afraid of the sedona if you don't wish to spend any more than that. It is a nice reel. Otherwise, for the money, I really like the symetre. Awesome reel for under $100.- Need help deciding on new rod and reel!
If you buy a new one you should be able to register it on kistler's website for the warranty. If you get a used one you would still qualify for the limited warranty which gives you up to 50% off a new model if you break yours.- Shimano Core 50mg vs 100mg - Any good reason to go with the 100?
I have the chronarch and core 50mg. The chronarch is definately an awesome reel and is quite a bit cheaper than the core. Bang for buck I might lean towards the chronarch. However, the core is incredible. I picked one up this spring because of all the good reviews I was reading on this site. All the hype it has recieved isn't B.S. It's the real deal!- Need help in rod selection
I have a 7' med. magnesium ts. Not micro though. Love it. I also have a 6'6" Helium ltx and a 7' lta. I really like all my kistlers! Some people don't care for their warranty, but I feel that the rods are worth the risk. Personally I haven't broke too many rods in my life. I also really like my Dobyns champion 733c. I used to be a Loomis guy and still think they make great rods. However, for the $ IMHO its hard to beat Kistlers or Dobyns.- Need help deciding on new rod and reel!
As far as shimano reels go you get what you pay for up to a stradic. They do keep getting better, but the "bang for your buck" gets less. If you don't mind Ebay, you can pick up a much better rod than the mojo for the $. If $100 is your ballpark price range I would look at the Kistler magnesium line on ebay. They are normally $169 +, but you can pick one up for $100 or less. I think they are so cheap because Kistler has now come out with the micro-mag. that has micro guides. Thats my opinion.- Cabelas Prodigy Rod/Daiwa Exceler Crankbait Setup..Update
I have a Cabela's 5 min. from my house so I've checked out everything they have 5 times over and then some. I go there just to browse when I'm bored. The prodigy sure seemed like a good feeling rod and they are just behind the xml in the Cabela's line-up. I have 2 xml's, but $60 is a great deal for that rod I believe.- TD Zillion: overkill for fishing mostly plastics?
I have a curado e7 and a core 50mg7. Love both! If you are even tempted to buy the core do it. The price I paid for the core still scares me, but I will never regret it. No doubt the best reel that has ever touched my hands. Brand new one on one on ebay for $295 w/ $10 ship.- what is your setup for a buzzbait?
7' Kistler Magnesium ts, med., mod-fast and a Chronarch 50mg.- curado question
I hear ya! Then when it got above 6, that was considered a "burner" 20 some yrs. ago. Its the American way. Bigger, faster, stronger. I remember when a 500cc utility 4-wheeler was a big one. Now their the babies.- curado question
I bought into the same idea as Jason S. Although I've always prefered my high speed reels I thought it might be usefull to get something to slow me down. It took about 2 trips to realize I can't stand anything slower than 6 something to 1. I'll still keep mostly 7 som. to 1 but would be excited to see a curado in that mid ratio.- Delaware Valley Tackle gets A+!!!
their user name is -delaware valley tackle- send him a pm and i'm sure he'll be able to answer your ?'s.- Baitcast vs. Spinning
I use both, but prefer bc in most situations. As already mentioned, lack of line twist, casting accuracy and I like having some that are high speed. When fishing certain lures you can burn the lure home to make another cast after you have left the "sweet spot".- Delaware Valley Tackle gets A+!!!
They are orange seal. I requested the ceramics out of curiousity because I had read so much about them. I did notice a little noise, but they did feel pretty smooth.- Delaware Valley Tackle gets A+!!!
Recently I sent my Chronarch 50mg to Mike at Delaware Tackle to get "super tuned". He proceeded to put in some Abec-7 ceramic ball bearings, Carbontex washers, new cast control washers and did a general clean & service. To say I was impressed would be an understatement. Wow, it really turned out superb. Its casts like a dream. Overall the reel just feels smoother. When I sent the reel in there really wasn't anything wrong with it. I was just curious about all the talk of super tuning. I didn't expect this noticeable of a difference! I would recommend that anyone thinking of having some work done on their reel should look up Delaware Valley Tackle. Thanks, Brett- Should i just buy a Curado E?
I can't comment about the revo because I've never used one. However, if you go with the curado I'm pretty sure you'll never look back. It's a great reel!- The Rod/Reel setup you are happiest with
Core50mg7/ Kistler Helium LTX 6'6" MH/ yozuri hybrid 12# The ltx is my shortest rod, but I love it to death. Want to get a 7 footer and put my curado e7 on the 6'6".- Abu Garcias Vendetta rated better than Shimanos Cumulus!!!!
one man's trash is another man's treasure >- What the....How do you...
I couldn't even think of using a LH baitcaster. I even reel my spinning reels on the right. Most of my friends up here think that is backwards.- type of reel for a 9 year old
I have boys 7 and 9 that love to fish with me. Of course I'm trying to teach them Bass fishing so I don't have to go out pan fishing every outing with them. This year I got them both spinning set-ups. With a little time they both have adapted pretty well. The 7 year old, however, manages to reel snarled or slack line up in his spool. I attempted to put him back in a closed face, but he refuses because he has gotten so good at casting the spinning reel. I believe the spinning reels with a "trigger cast" work well for the young ones. Be prepared to be patient. It was hard for me. Also like I said they'll never want to pick up a closed face again.- Brand Loyalty...Good or Bad?
I think Glenn stated it best. If everyone used the same it would be dull. It relates to the idea that if fishing was really easy or you caught 50 fish every single time you went out it would get boring. I'm not die-hard anything, but at the moment I only own shimano reels. I really want to try a daiwa baitcaster, but don't know which one. I'd say steez but I just sprung for a core 50 a couple of months ago. As for rods, I have 2 Kistlers, 2 Cabelas xml's, a Dobyns, and a Loomis. Love them all. If it works I'll use it. Also, not many of my friends buy high end equip. and I get a lot crap for that. I think they are jealous. ;D ;D- Chronarch sf or curado 200e
thanks raul- My new Core 51mg7
I've had my new core 50mg7(righty) for about 2 months now just waiting to use it. Bass opener is Sat. in MN. I can't wait to try it. I have mine on a Kistler 6'6" MH LTX.- trying to go cheap! what to do?
The lightning rods at my local w.m. are more in the $40 range. Either way still a good "bang for the buck" deal.- Your Braid Of Choice?
I logged a vote for PP. Has anyone tried daiwa samari? - First decent spinning reel?
