Memories
Just wanted to add that theres nothing wrong w/ a LR. I was more refering to the retro grip and 5'2" length. I think the newer ones are probably a little diffferrent than the ones released in 1984. My cousin and my dad (both whom I do the most fishing with) swear by them. For around $50 they are definitely a good "bang for buck" item. The only other rod that I can think of that has stood the test of time w/ anglers is the ugly stick. I wish I had a dollar for every time I either watched someone or heard of someone doing the ugly stick test to a different brand rod. The results were not good. My buddy did this to one of my loomis spinning rods before I could even holler NO!!! it was snapped in 2. Then he proceeded to say that it was because the rod was junk. Ignorance is blind.

replacement rod?
Also, their XML rods are $69.99 which is half off. Those rods are a good value at retail.

My Curoado 50 E arrived today
Thanks for the detailed reply smbrule. I'm also interested in new stuff.

replacement rod?
My crankbait rod is a 7' med. Kister magnesium ts. 1/8-3/4oz. mod. fast. I really like it. It's a few bucks more than a vendetta, but a better rod IMO. Simmons sporting goods out of Alabama has them on Ebay for $101 plus ship, but you can call them and order that way. The rod is heavy enough for me, but you might be pulling out some larger fish in Louisiana. Anything pulled out of the water over 7# here in MN is a monster.

My Curoado 50 E arrived today
smbrule, I'm assuming your talking about a chronarch 50mg. So besides the weight difference are you saying you like the new curado better? I have a chr. 50mg and a cur. 200e. Love both, but just wondering.

Memories
Today I helped my stepfather with a job (we are both plumbers). When we finished we went to his and my mothers house. Before I took off my mom said "hey did you show Brett the old rods you found"? Well, one was my old berkley lightning rod. I got this rod when they very first came out. I believe I was 12 or 13. I'm 39 now. It was officially my second baitcast rod. I bought it to replace my first one (can't remember what that one was). Took my bantam mag shimano off the old one and put it on the LR. It's a LR22 with the old school pistol grip(foam). 5'2" 1/4-5/8oz. Wow, how things have changed. Back then I thought that rod was awesome. Actually at the time it was. Now I only Have 1 casting under 7'. The only thing wrong with it is the insert on the tip is missing. I'm going to re-tip it and give it to one of my boys for their first BC rod. Memories

6'10 MH XF rod for skipping?
I do a lot dock fishing around home. F in T's is absolutely right. Any combo will do it, but a shorter rod w/ a spinning reel on it seems to work best. I was doing it with a BC today just to try it. Its tougher because you have to stop the spool. With a short spin set-up I can do quick, short, side-underhanded toss that keeps the worm 6" or so off the water from start to finish. As far as a xfast action, I think that is exactly what you would want.

Advice on new rod/reel........
Definitely get the curado!! For a rod you might want to check out Cabela's XML rods. They are on sale for $69.99. They are normally $139.99. Awesome deal. Also, you can get a kistler Argon for $99.99 on Ebay. They are normally $199.99. If you don't want to use E-bay you can call Simmons sporting goods themselves and order it direct. Their # is on their E-bay listing.

Shimano vs. Abu Garcia
A couple of days ago I started a tread about the revo sx vs. the stx. Well, I ended up buying a citica. I already have a curado, chronarch and a core. While the citica is the least of these 4 reels it is certainly no slouch. I used it for the first time today and was very impressed. As far as the whole sponsorship thing, I'm clueless. However, I am still intriged by the Abu Revo's and will probably get one someday. What I can say for sure is, for $, the citica E is a heck of a reel. Very good. I'm a die hard shimano guy because of my experiences with them. That being said, I wouldn't be afraid to venture out and try something though. Like others have posted I'm sure either choice wouldn't be a bad one.

Best 7' rod under $100 for light jigs
Sorry, I didn't even state that they're KISTLER's.

Best 7' rod under $100 for light jigs
E-bay has a 7'2" Argon med. 1/8-3/4oz. fast act. They're $99, but shipping is $18 . I have a magnesium ts and a helium which are the rods just below and just above the Argon. I really like those rods and would think the Argon is good too.

InvisX vs. Abrazx for a BC
I have 12# invisX on my chronarch 50mg/ kistler magn. ts crankbait rod and it works great. I haven't used abrasX so I can't really compare.

Cabela's sale.........
I just picked up a 6'10" casting XML. Its a MH pitch/flip rated for 3/8-1/12oz. lures. ALL xml rods are $69.99 currently. They are normally $139.99. IMO you couldn't find a better rod for $69. I asked my buddy who works there, "why the sale" and he explained that they just have way too many in stock.

Help buying spinning reel
x2. I think a 2500 is a little big for that rod & the 500's usually have a slower gear ratio.

revo sx or stx
Thanks again everyone. I might just end up with the stx. On ebay I'm watching a few of both and the prices are real close despite the $30 retail difference.

revo sx or stx
First off, thanks for the replies. As far as being specific about use, most of my rods need to serve more than one or two purposes. Currently my BC arsenal only consists of: -core 50mg7/ helium ltx 6'6" mh fast -chronarch 50mg/ magnesium ts 7' m mod. fast -curado e7/ Dodyns champion 733 Anyways, what I am getting at is the need for a heavy combo. Heavy cover and more specifically lg. swimbaits. SB's are kind of new to me. I've been using the 733, which does the job, but those swimbaits are like throwing a 20# turd. I'm interested in the revo series because of their drag and my curiousity to venture outside of my beloved shimanos. So if the ability to cast lighter baits is the only thing the stx has on the sx, I will go with the sx. BTW, I'm on E-bay a lot and was only going to snag the rod at Cabela's. Thanks.

revo sx or stx
I tried a search for this and did find some answers, however I figured I'd ask what I want to know. I'm looking for a new combo that I can use for heavy cover and heavier baits. Cabela's XML rods are like half off (69.99) so I'm going with a 7' Heavy, fast action. Also, I've decided I want a Revo. Yesterday at Cabela's I held a sx and it felt good, for whatever that's worth. They didn't have a stx in the case for me to compare. Keeping in mind I'm going to use it for heavier stuff (already have reels for light duty) Is it worth getting a stx? $ is a little of a concern for me because I already sprung for a core this year along with a couple new rods.

Cabela's sale.........
Recently, Cabela's in Owatonna MN had a stradic/ Cabelas xml titanium combo for $199. I'm not sure if this is still on, but it was as of a couple days ago. They normally sell the rods alone for $189.99.

My 14' Polarkraft Jon Build(UPDATED 7/18/2010)
Wow, I really like the way your boat turned out! I'm looking to buy a 14' alumacraft jon from my buddy and fix it up. I've been watching the boating forum lately for ideas. Do you have any idea how much weight you added? Also, I was curious to see if taking out the benches really matters all that much. Boats this size aren't normally rated for too high a hp anyway. Make sure and give us an update after you hit the water.

G. Loomis Kicks It Up A Notch!
Definitely something to dream about, but thats a little out of my price range also. R.W., if you get rid of one of those 842's to make room, let me know!
