Cabelas Platinum Zx
The Tournament ZX rods are awesome! Cheaper too unless the sale is really large. This rod is by far my favorite rod and for $99 you can't beat it. Extremely sensitive and the rod feels as light as 1 power level lower. My MH 7'2" Jig & Worm feels like a M but has the backbone of a MH. But my favorite part about this rod is the grips! They are legit!

Cabelas Tournament Zx
Just picked up one of these for $99 at Cabelas. Love it. Way more sensitive than my $90 St. Croix Triumph. I got the Jig & Worm version which is a 7'2" MH. It is as light as a medium rod but has the backbone that is needed in a MH. This is definitely my new favorite rod and as soon as the budget allows I will be getting a few more!

Butler State Lake Video
Headed out to Butler State Fishing Lake early yesterday morning with jrsmith_80 who was nice enough to take me out on his boat. First time I had ever been to this lake. It is a fantastic little lake. I have never fished lily pads as this is definitely a rare thing for a western or central Kansas lake. Air temp was in the 70s first thing in the morning and ended in the low 90s around noon. Water temp was 81. We started the day out throwing frogs and buzzbaits around the pads. We each picked up a fish fairly quickly in the morning with a few topwater misses as well. I caught a couple smaller ones pitching a BPS stik-O worm and a pb&j colored jig. We then picked up a few more fish in the weeds throwing spinnerbaits at the end of the day. Not a bad day fishing and only my 2nd video since getting my new GoPro, and first video from a boat!

First Gopro Bass!
Bare with my editing skills and filming skills. Caught my first bass while filming with my new GoPro 3+ Silver! Still getting the hang of things with filming and learned I need to angle the camera more downward. Very windy day out at Chisholm North Lake here in Wichita, KS. 30+ mph and the last 2 weeks have risen the water about 1.5-2 ft. I have caught quite a few 2-5 lbers in this lake this year but the last few times since the water has been up have been real tough! The wind today meant more of the same tough conditions! Only managed maybe the smallest fish I've caught this year outta this lake on a Baby Paca Craw in Bama Bug color. Nothing else but only fished about 1 1/2 hours. Anyways... here is my first vid!! Hopefully more to come including some instructional/tips video series and some #mtbSLAM attempts!!

Gopro Knockoffs
Do any of you use a cheaper knockoff to a GoPro? If so, how is the quality and battery life? Do many accessories come with it? I really want to start filming my outings, but the GoPro is just out of my price range right now.

Netbait Has Been Sold!
Paca Craws and Baby Paca Craws in okochobee craw and bama bug are by far my best producing plastics this year so far! Please tell me they aren't changing those!

New To Leaders & Braid
For some reason I've had problems with the Alberto knot breaking... I m tying it correctly as I have watched many videos on this. I started using the Albright knot and problem solved.

Wichita - Chisholm North Lake
Well I tried the Island Pond at the Great Plains Nature Center. Doesn't seem like many people fish there. Caught 2 that were between 1.5 and 2 lbs there. Then went back to Chisholm North Lake and caught 2 more between 2 and 3 lbs. The last one was a chunk. I really cant believe how decent the fishing is in this lake. I haven't caught a bass below 12" here in 2 trips. I highly recommend it to you Wichitans. I am also soon to be trying some other areas around town to see if there are any hidden gems. Technique Vs Bait
I think technique is way more important. If the fish want a shaky head then the specific finesse worm on the jighead is less important than properly working the shaky head. You will still catch fish if the technique is right, the specific bait action and color only enhances the ability to catch fish. Now if you look at it the other way around. You have the perfect soft bait and the perfect color, but are horrible at technique you just won't catch fish.

Seaguar Red Label
I use it in 10# for leader material ahead of 30# Power Pro on my finesse spinning rod setup.
-
Tightenig A Braid Knot
I use Power Pro and a Palomar knot.... no issues just wet the knot then cinch it tight with the main line in 1 hand and the tag in the other. Never a cut or even slight pain.

Wichita - Chisholm North Lake
I'll have to hit that pond up tomorrow. Hopefully because it's catch and release and artificials only there isn't alot of the meat fisherman I've seen at Chisholm North.

What Line Should I Use For Finesse Fishing?
I've been using 30 lb Power Pro with a 10 lb Seagar Red Label florocarbon leader. Caught a 2.5 lber today on this spinning setup using a "finesse" carolina rig. 1/4 oz bullet and a carolina keeper with a Zoom Trick Worm. I use this setup for shaky head and drop shot and weightless soft plastics as well.

Need Help With A Lake Over Populated With Weeds
Stanley Ribbit frogs. My fiance caught her PB 7 lber on these last week through thick weeds. Make sure you are throwing braided line though. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-FROGS.html?from=basres Also try weightless senko style baits. I prefer Yum Dingers on a 3/0 or 4/0 hook. Also use braid but stick a florocarbon leader on so they can't see the line. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Yum_Dinger/descpage-YD.html?from=basres

Hey There From Wichita, Kansas
Hey Danny, I too am from Wichita. I just moved to the area and have been trying to find new spots. I have had good luck at Chisholm North Lake but haven't tried anywhere else yet. I posted a report in the Central Bass Fishing message boards. PM me if you ever need a fishing buddy in the area!

Wichita - Chisholm North Lake

Wichita - Chisholm North Lake
This is the first lake I've fished since I moved to Wichita this past weekend due to it being the closest lake to my home. I had basically only heard that it was a crappie and a catfish lake and the KDWPT reports seem to suggest that as well. Within 10 minutes I caught this 17 in. 2.25 lber on a finesse Carolina rigged Powerbait Sabertail Bug. Also caught a little smaller one on a 6" BPS Stik-O t-rigged weightless. Had 2 more I missed the hookset on on the Stik-O as well. Not too bad for 1 quick hour of fishing at a crappie and catfish lake. Will definitely try and learn this lake more. Any of you Wichitans fish this lake??

Line And Rod For Each Technique
Thanks RW! Do you use straight fluoro on the jig and work rod and the finesse spinning rods or use braid backing and a leader?? Advantages or disadvantages of this?
-
Line And Rod For Each Technique
I am considering reevaluating and changing what lines and rods I use on my different setups. What length, power, and speed would you recommend for each technique and then what type/brand/size line do you each recommend for the setups and do you use a leader if you use braid on any setup? 1. Frogging rod for throwing horny toads, stanley ribbits, and booyah pad crashers. 2. Jig/worm rod for pitching and casting 1/4 to 1/2 oz jigs and t-rigged plastics. 3. Spinnerbait/buzzbait rod. 4. Shallow square bill crankbait and medium diver crankbait rod. 5. Senko rod for weightless t-rig. 6. Drop shot or shaky head finesse spinning setup.

My Fiance's New Pb!!
No way. Wouldn't ever keep a fish with those genetics. A few pics and back in the water! If I ever caught an 8 or 9 in Oklahoma or Kansas I would consider getting a fiberglass replica.

My Fiance's New Pb!!
My fiancé Kelsie caught this 23-inch, 7 pound pig tonight at Sanborn Lake near Stillwater, OK!! It is her new PB by about 6 lbs!! My current PB is only 6 lbs 6 oz!! She is just learning to bass fish and earlier in the night I helped her practice setting the hook since we were using Zoom Horny Toads in the thick stuff and she is mostly used to buzzbaits, cranks, and spinnerbaits..... boy did she set the hook!!! She caught this on only a pink breast-cancer awareness edition Shakespeare Medium action spinning combo. She usually has 6 lb Trilene on the rod, but thankfully due to our frogging trip today I put 30 lb Power Pro on it for her!!! WOW I am just so proud of her!! Needless to say she is hooked!! And this is good for my fishing habit !!!

I am moving to Wichita in late May. I know the tourney season will already have begun, but I am looking at hooking up with a bass club in the area. I am a non-boater for now but in the near future may be getting a bass boat. Any info would be great! Layne
