  1. I'm looking for some options to carry a few extra rods in my tracker, and put them in the back of the boat. It also looks like it would useful when I bring someone new along. I came across the Bac-Rac in my searching (http://www.bac-rac.com/) Has anyone here used this? Does it work as well as advertised? It's kind of pricey, but it looks pretty slick.
  2. I've had a lot of ethos rods, and the 6'8" spinning has been the best of the bunch. If you want a crankbait rod and have the budget, Gander mountain has the St. Croix rods on sale. You can get an Avid crankbait rod for $120 after the coupon code and rebate. If you want a spinning rod the 6'8" MXF Avid spinning rod for $120. Both of those are going to be great options for you.
  3. I impulse bought a Stella 2500FE over black Friday, once it arrived I decided I needed a better rod for that nice of a reel, so I have a Loomis 822 SYR on the way now.
  4. You can normally use coupon code gmt5 to get free shipping and 5 off every 50 spent. I bought a few rods last time they offered this rebate
  5. You should also look at the scorpion 1000xt. Same price as the chronarch, but should be better at casting smaller lures
  6. Gander mountain has the core 100 for $269 right now with a $50 off coupon. You can get that reel or the ci4 for 219 right now.
  7. Is there a 5:1 gear set that fits the 100 size shimanos (100b, 50mg)?
  8. There are a lot of metal 3D printing options available that could be used for molds.
  9. I'm also interested. I haven't come across any clubs in the area, but there must be some.
  10. Price is certainly important. You need to have good prices on good gear. I've been in local shops that sell standard brands (Abu, Shimano, Loomis, Croix, etc) but they want more for it than the box stores on online stores. I like to support the local shops, but I'm not going to pay lot more to buy from the local shop. One neat thing from a local shop. He sponsored the local tournaments and setup a trailer during registration selling the hot baits for that body of water. Almost everyone in the tournament bought tackle from him before blast off.
  11. I think retail on the 200e was 179 and the 50e was 199.
  12. The 50E retailed for $199, so following the 60% rule of thumb puts it about $120.
  13. Any suggestions on where to order u40?
  14. I just bought a dx743 and fished it last week for the first time. The first day I had a core 50 on the rod and switched to a chronarch ci4 on day two. Both reels balance and palm nice on the rod. I'm planning to keep the core on that rod, but that's mainly because I'm planning to get a 735 for the ci4. I think you'll be happy with either reel on the 744.
  15. St Croix has both spinning and casting rods 6 ft or under.
  16. I've got two of them, and they are great reels for the price.
  17. Academy had the mettle on clearance for $29 last time I was in the store. I bring one anytime I take someone new to give them a shot at throwing a casting reel.
  18. I went down there twice last year. We were skunked the first trip and caught a few the 2nd time. We fished the lower lake the first trip and the upper the 2nd. It was a tough place to figure out. The locals told us to fish the cypress trees, but that's basically the entire lake. There was a tournament weighing in when we got back after the first trip. Two guys weighed in over 30 lbs. So there are big bass down there if you can find them.
  19. I've been a big st croix fan, but recently bought a few dobyns rods. For now any future purchases will be dobyns
  20. Anyone have recommendations on a good set of glasses with light lenses? I have a pair of Wiley x ambers and costa green mirror. I'd like to pick up a pair to wear early in the morning when it's still too dark for the amber lenses.
  21. Here is the reel with the hawgtech handle with shimano knobs
  22. I thought I read somewhere the cw was a different blank than the savvy. I haven't been able to find the link where I read that, so I may have imagined it
  23. I'll snap a photo tonight and upload. The larger handle was very comfortable to fish. I'd like to get a few more to put on my other reels.
  24. I'm looking to get some reviews on the dobyns cw series. I recently purchased a dx743 and was planning to get a champion 735 for frogs and jigs. Well I found out Dobyns is discounting some of their rods if you've recently made a purchase, and one of those options is the cw735. I'm curious how this rod compares to the champ series, and if its worth spending the extra cash or if I should go with the deal on the cw.
  25. I use yozuri hybrid on all but my frog/jig rod. If I was limited to a single line I could covert that as well. I use 6lb on my spinning gear and 12 on my casting.
