  1. I finaaly got some time on the water with this reel. I threw most trigs and pitched jigs, but the reel was great. Super smooth casting and no problems landing the dinks I caught all day
  2. I recently purchased a 743. I contacted Dobyns and asked about the differences between the 703 and 743. He said the two rods are basically the same expect length and the handle. He said basically it's a personal preference on length. From what you are planning to throw, it sounds like the 704 should work good for you.
  3. I keep them in ziploc bags and plastic boxes at the house. I put what I plan to fish for the day in a plano speed bag to take in the boat.
  4. I installed a hawg handle on my ci4 this evening. Very nice upgrade for the reel. With the red accents looks like it came from the factory that way.
  5. I have the 7' mh, the 7' mm, 6'6" mh and the 6'8" spinning rod. All are good rods. I haven't seen any rods in store recently longer than than 7'3". I've been trying to find the 7'10" crankbait rod.
  6. Check the pumps for the live well before you take it out. I bought a 2004 tracker and the live well pump housing was cracked and let a ton of water in the boat. Fortunately I figured out quickly the boat was taking on water and was able to replace the pump
  7. I have an avid 70MM with a chronarch 50mg for shallow and medium cranks. It's taking a while to get used to how great this combo casts. I've sent a few pretty deep into the trees.
  8. Gander has a $50 off $250 sale through today. You could get a St. Croix LTB or a 13 *** for $100 with the coupon and your gift card.
  9. I stopped in a shop over the weekend and got to handle this rod. It felt nice with a CI4 on it. I'd still like to try the croix for comparison
  10. I'm actually working through this process now. I have a bunch if gear I accumulated the last few years. Now I'm trying to sell a bunch of it and downsize to a few specific combos.
  11. I'm actually looking for a similar rod. I've been looking at the dobyns champion 735 and the st croix ltb slop-n-frog. I've read a ton of great reviews on the dobyns, so I'm leaning towards that. I'd like to tryout the croix, but haven't been able to find anyone local that carries the rod.
  12. Of course they wait until after I move to build. I used to live in fuquay and work in Cary. Fortunately we are getting a cabelas here in sc next year
  13. Those of you that made the switch from right to left hand retrieve on a casting reel.. Did you try it out first on a cheap reel, or how did you make the switch? I currently cast right, and reel right, but would like to try lefty so I don't have to switch hands. I just don't want to spend a bunch of money on a reel I may not use, but I'm worried if I buy a cheap reel I'll get frustrated with the reel and not use it. I wish Academy would make a LH mettle to experiment with.
  14. I'm not a big fan of their in store selection, but they have good deals online. They had a $50 rebate on St. Croix rods early this year, plus the coupon code, so I picked up a new Avid crankbait rod for $125 shipped.
  15. Gander Mtn tends to randomly mark down some gear. They currently have Chronarch 201E7 for $149. Add something cheap to get above $150 and use coupon code you can get another $15 off and free shipping. All of the other Chronarchs are still $199.
  16. They had them for $249 for 4th of July with a $50 off of $250 coupon. I picked up a pair for $200 each.
  17. I don't see the CI4 as an option. Is there another reel to select to get a handle that fits?
  18. What specifically do you think is better about the core?
  19. Mine arrived yesterday. Can't wait to get out and use it
  20. Another question. Are there significant differences between a 683, 703, and 733, other than length? It looks like they are all rated similar, just different lengths.
  21. I have the 6'8" MXF and love it for top water and flukes. I've been looking at the 7'1" or 7'3" MH but want to get my hands on one before I purchase. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find anyone locally that carries anything more than a mojo.
  22. How does this rod compare to the 735? Both are listed as MH. I'm looking for a frog and jig rod. The 735 looks to be the better choice, but it's not clear to me what the differences between the 733, 734, 735 and 736 are.
  23. I'm also a new member from Spartanburg, SC.
