  2. I haven't tried all the top lines but I have Tatsu and I am goin to take a guess and say Tatsu still wins. It's expensive but it actually lasts a long time and that silly complaint about memory with lines actually is a non issue even without L&L.
  3. I think it might beat up your spool bearing a little more because it hold water. Reels that I use with braid and just generally more wet overall. Some of that has to get in to places somewhere.
  4. I suppose I will never understand why people think a mono is better to learn on over braid. I can't think of any advantages over braid. Maybe at one point in learning the smoothness of it might help with distance but to start the rough texture of braid really let's you feel the spool spinning. If someone has a reason why it is better to learn with let me know. If your reason is for a backlash then that's nonsense and braid is still superior.
  5. You can get a "fish of Ohio" pin of you catch a fish that meets the requirements. There is one for like every fish. If you catch 3 different fish of Ohio species in a year you can get master angler. I heard the master pin is a bass this year and I was going to get it but I forgot till just not. I have never done any of the fish of Ohio stuff before but I could get the master pins every year easy. This year actually I had a fish of Ohio bass on New Years day lol. That was the last day of open water till this year.
  6. No worries. Even slow and steady they are hard to keep down even on 6# line. a straight retrieve will get bit but I do best changing speeds and making it dart around.
  7. They work and I have quite a few myself and if you can get them at a ok price it's not a bad buy at all. It's not about being for the patient angler. It's just a light bait even though it's really not and rises easily. They do kill it at times and 2-3' below the surface is plenty fine fishing glides lots of times. They are just very tricky to change the ROF and not mess up te swim. Even if you follow instructions on the Deps site an only use weight in the colored areas. You can change hooks add plate weights but it won't swim perfect and I need perfect. The only real solution is to remove the stock weight and make your own weight that is exactly the same but thicker. You want to make it as symmetrical as possible and the same length so it doesn't cross that halfway mark in the weight slot. I think stock is 1.6 grams and I have some with weights up to 4 grams in them and they fish much better in my opinion.
  8. You use a stick to pull a snag free or break off? I have kinda always wondered the different methods people use. I just wrap the line around my forearm a few times. It won't cut you and you can pull anything out.Since I don't know you I guess I can't actually gurantee it won't cut or hurt you so use caution. Some of you might have abnormally weak skin or are easily damaged for some reason The more times you wrap it the better and if you worried get you arm in your shirt kinda or use a rag.
  9. For trebles I am partial to owners my self. I am also a fan of EWG hook on baits a fish will engulf usually like cranks. I feel it keeps them on better. Now if VMC made trebles with that weird bend that is on the spinshot hooks fish would never get off. Maybe it's just me but those can be difficult to get out for some reason.
  10. You kind of need to be in the 1 1/2 ounce range and most M/H jigs rods can throw that no problem. But even then your sorta limited. S-waver 168 Jointed Claw 148 G2 shellcracker Mini slammer S-song G2 punker Those are all easily available
  11. Small It has a tight swim with a short glide and sinks kinda slow and is kinda hard to fish with any depth. You can add weight to it so it glides a bit wider and sinks quicker so you can fish deeper but it's kinda difficult to keep it balanced. It took me quite a bit to figure out exactly how to weight it correctly.
  12. Carp don't always do enough. I know a lot of places that have them and are still loaded with weeds. Depending how bad the place was with weeds and how much they treat some fish might die. Chances are though it is due to a sudden drop in oxygen from killing off the weeds and not the chemicals. If they use a chemical like Reward you can fish right away but shouldn't eat fish for 48 hours I think.
  13. I would have to disagree with using a treble hook. I mean that is unless you dont want that treble hook anymore. A single hook is hard enough to get out as it is. If you want to use chicken livers spread them out on a plate and cover them in salt and let them sit in the sun. They wont fall off the hook when you cast anymore and still be plenty nasty and disgusting. If you can catch some tiny bluegill like 3" or so those work great and bass will also grab those. You can also cut up the gills and catfish will eat it but not the bass so much. It is best to re hook the gills deep in the mouth and out the cheek where it is like harder bone. It won't kill them of effect their ability to swim like other places people hook them. Toss a live gill under a bobber about 2' or so and something will grab it and you will know when its about to happen. If the gill starts sleeping on you the give it the slightest tug to wake it back up and it will start moving again. Refrain from casting it if all possible. you only get so many because hitting the water scrambles there brains and kills them. You maybe got about 3 tops depending on the size of the gill. After that it is pretty much dead or will be soon.
  14. Ya np. Obviously you want the points facing backwards
  15. How is that zero gravity jig? I was looking at one last year and almos bought it. It had a weird shaped head to and I don't know if it was the same brand.
  16. Frog hooks on treble hook baits are the deal in weedy places. Usually they are to big for cranks. Quite a few of my swimbaits have them right now.
  17. Lots of times the will just slash at a frog first and try to maybe stun or injure it. They almost always come back again as long as you don't rip it away from them. Some days they just grab the legs and that doesn't mean they are little fish. Try to not have any slack in your line when you go to set the hook. That makes a hufe difference in actually sticking a hook in them. with slack it suddenly rips away from them but with no slack its more a slow hookset that just buries it self.
  18. If you can get a pair of linemans on the bend of the hook squeeze then and it should start to open up the hook. It should be kinda hard to do and quality pliers helps. I have also widened them sometimes for even better hookups.
  19. Lew's BB-2Z, Daiwa Tatula Type-HD
  20. I am not sure exactly what it is but for padding on a rod I would think you could use foam insulation for water lines or a pool noodle for even more padding. I have had some days where I destroyed my ribs fishing jigs. I need more padding but unfortunately its impossible for me to get fat

Grass master jigs have worked ok for me.

Overall it has to be a jig. What is the most fun or enjoyable to fish is a glide bait. A bait has to be fun and enjoyable to fish to be a favorite not just catch lots of fish. A senko is a perfect example. They are boring to fish I will go without catching fish so I can enjoy myself.
  23. Overall the live target frogs are probably the best. Spro are good also but don't have that softness. I do really like the king daddy frogs from spro though. I guess it like a swimbait sized frog. I kinda prefer popping frogs most of the time now a days. I can walk them just as well usually and they can also be popped so it's a bonus. For buzz frogs it's a Stanley ribbit all day. I really wanted it to be a top toad but no mattet how I rig them it doesn't seem right. I have also missed almost every fish ever on them. For a pause retrieve like the crappy Lunk Hunter frogs people seem to like its easily Ken Dauberts frogs. I have not tried the new mass produced ones that are like $10 but I have caught tons of fish on the much more expensive older ones.
  24. A weedless shad and a bullshad have a giant gap in price range. I highly doubt the OP is looking to spend $50-60 on a bullshad or even maybe the $8-9 it is for weedless shads now. A jp on the other hand can cover basically anything. A 1/4oz with a grass head is probably the most versatile. You can try swimming them with a paddle tail trailer or grub, craw, creature, it doesn't really matter as they will all work. You can also just work them along the bottom. If there is no weeds to get hooks fouled on then a rooster tail with catch tons of fish and so will a size 4 Rapala X-Rap. Those are both better fish on something like a ultra light rod and can be difficult to get any distance with on standard slinning rods. Also 2" white grubs on the lightest heads you can throw like 1/16 or even 1/32 will catch tons and tons of fish. Again those are also better on light tackle if possible.
  25. Spike it also seems to last forever. Any bait I dipped the tails in to make chartreuse go in a bag together. They still smell like garlic and I don't know if it will ever go away. There is also a garlic spray can my stepfather uses sometimes that is super strong and last a long time. I think they sell that at Walmart. It is in a black can with red letters I thonk.
