  1. I didn't even know they made boxes like that. Each row is a insert that pulls out of the box. It is very serious buisness to him. All kinds of custom colors and everything. He doesn't mess around and with the night bite about to start its time to really go to work. I kinda poke fun at him with his line counters and planer boards but the man knows what he is doing on the water that's for sure. I have never ever been skunked with him and we catch some monster eyes. He also always seem to be on the jumbos when he goes for perch.
  2. I thought so. All those rapalas in their own tubes and then the boxes with rogues and perfect 10's are pretty cool too.
  3. My uncle had a few just a few of his boxes sitting around and I thought it was cool.
  4. I live in Cleveland where no one ever goes fishing or owns a boat so we don't have any BPS or Cabelas anywhere close. There is no point in even opening one up around here. I could see if maybe Cleveland was on like one of the biggest bodies of water on the planet and actually had like a thousand people out fishing everyday. Then maybe we would have stores like that.
  5. To make it short and to the point for 2 rods an reels that cover it all. 1) Casting 6.5'-7' MH/F Rod 6.4:1 ratio reel 2) Spinning 6.5'-7' M/F 2500 size reel For casting once you hit the $150 mark on rods and reels it should be quality. For spinning great reels can be had for around $50 and around $100ish for rods. I would say with confidence almost everyone on here if they had to have only 2 setups would go this route maybe slightly modified for personal reasons.
  6. I do agree that in smaller water any bass that's around 4# or more is a loner. Fish also don't group up and school like they do on bigger water. You might find a school of 5 or 6 2#ish fish but that seems to be about it. They also are usually moving when you do see them. You can pull a bunch of fish out of a area but I feel they are independent of each other. If what they are preying on doesn't school then it seems the bass won't either. It is also questionable if it is actually easier to catch big fish. You have very limited opportunities to trick a big one on small waters and if you blow it could of been one of just a handful of chances you had for the day unless they places is loaded with big ones for some reason. You bes chance on private/smaller water to actually really target them is the spawn and summer so it seems to me. Spawn is obvious why and the summer is because they rule over all othe small fish. The super fishy spots like under these branches next to that stump and taken over by a big one. It provides shade and a excellent ambush point and that fish will keep sitting there for a good period of the year. Even if you scare it off it will come back so you have another chance.
  7. It's not about the cost. It just doesn't hurt anything and will get used again so why even take it off unless it is a problem somehow.
  8. Interesting read. There is some info that is not optimal I guess I would say. Some of it is personal preference also I suppose. Regardless big baits work all year and in every body of water.
  9. I just don't take it off my line. It desnt hurt anything by being on there. A hidden advantage to keeping them on is that if you take a reel off a rod they usually don't fit through the levelwind so you line stays nice on the spool. That is as long as yur not using micro guides and it fits through your tip top.
  10. Umm I am not sure how to answer the darting question. What is it you are trying to achieve with your swimbaits? Darting shouldnt be one of them imo. Furthermore I have no idea how you are making them dart anyways and I fish a lot of swimbaits and I mean a lot. I would speculate though darting is more about head shape then line tie angle.
  11. CXX not having as much memory as fluro is not true. It is super hard and dense and will develop crazy memory. It is still my most used line as it has very minimal stretch and amazing sensitivity. I do plan to eventually switch to mostly Tatsu at some point though.
  12. I do it a fair amount and it works great. Huddleston weedless shads are amazing in a c rig. Also dont over look a weedless 6". I caught a couple fish today actually doing this with a 6".
  13. You should really hook them all and I dont think the placement of the eye makes much difference. The only thing it really effects is weedlessness. The more towards the nose of the bait the less chance for grass to get caught and hang. For example the heads for big hammers are 90 degrees and its a exposed hook. If you look at a "weedless" head it will be slightly off or the nose will drop straight down from it so there is no spot for stuff to catch. I guess another example is a hudd vs a weedless version. The weedless ones have the line tie coming straight out the nose of the bait. They both hook fish no problem regardless of the angle of the tie.
  14. This is true. I crushed some fish today on 6" hudds. I also did really well on the biggest big hammers not the sledgehammers.
  15. I would say anything with the Daiwa magforce z braking. A tatula would be good but maybe to large for her hands. Turn the dial to 10 maybe 12 and you should be able to cast anything with out thumbing it. No tension of course. Or a centrifugal braking reel with probably all the pins on and the mag at like 2 or 3. Also no tension. She should be casting like a champ in 30 minutes or so. I recommend never using tension to learn. It makes you cast harder and greatly affects distance and defeats the purpose of a smooth reel that turns effortlessly.
  16. Ya maybe. It's weird though because I have seen them go in different directions and also change directions and turn.
  17. It's kinda similar to the perch in my mothers lake. Like 5 or 6 years ago I caught 1 on a fluke. Through the next years I think 2 or 3 more were caught by people. It's weird it's so few as this is a place where hundreds upon hundreds of bass are caught each year and bass lures = perch lures pretty much. Well this year I caught 9 of them in one day. I shattered the all time count I know of in like 5 minutes on a jerkbait. I caught 6 in 6 casts out of a corner of the place. I guess they shouldnt really even be able to survive so I hear with it only being 13' deep anymore from silt. There was also supposed to be eyes at one point I heard but those also are supposed to need that deeper water like perch. Where do they go and why don't I ever catch them more often? I have no idea how that works but I don't think there is probably more then 20 or 30 of them in the whole place and they travel is little schools I bet. They are so few and the chance of survivng to reach a decent size is rare with 5#+ bass and 10#+ cats swimming around. Even if they do a 8-10" perch is still a easy meal for those fish. I will say that my perch s-waver catches more then any other one I have. But in it defense it has shaved joints is my oldest s-waver and has mojo in the hundreds going for it.
  18. Who really knows. On the days they almost jump in the boat DEET, sunscreen, WD40, gasoline are all clearly a attractant. On the days you can't buy a bite I can gurantee you didn't catch them because of the DEET, gas, WD40, ect and its a repellent. I catch my fair share of fish and honestly I am never super worried about my hands. In the end everyone's hands should smell like fish anywaus right? I smoke while I fish and that would be the only thing I ever think about. But I don't really putch much stock in that anyways. I can't even count how many monsters I have had rock my bait with a cigarette hanging out my mouth. In the end the smell of fish probably overpowers everything.
  19. About something under the water. Do you guys ever see wakes from something but nothing is there making it? I will watch these tiny V's shoot right at me sometimes in water so clear I can see the bottom perfectly and nothing is there. They can come all the way up to the bank and literally end only because there is no more water and nothing is there. Can fish shoot off little wakes that carry for another 10 maybe 20' all on its own? I always expect to see a little bass or bluegill maybe even some little minnows or fry of some kind but they are like phantom wakes and it seems weird.
  20. They work all year long. There is times of the year some baits work better then others but you don't know until you try.
  21. I think they all would be passed out drooling on them self or to paranoid from never sleeping to be out in public. You probably safe. I wouldn't worry to much.
  22. I have put frog hooks / double hooks on glide baits with great success. I let me fish the baits through weeds so much easier as it makes them basically weedless.
  23. You can still easily add one if you wanted. All you need is a paperclip and some tape to make a really quick one. That is if you not worried about having a piece of tape on your rod. On one rod I actually wrapped one myself so there is no tape. I never wrapped anything before so used a old rod to test on and I wrapped it 10# braid cause it's what I had handy.
  24. I actually just bought a container for holding spools of line from Walmart the other day after all this time. It has a hole for each slot the line comes out. I think it cost me $3 or something and actually worked good. The only thing is lots of spools I have are not full size and dont for perfectly in there. Like a spool of power pro for example is smaller but a spool of CXX is the right size. I just put spools in all the slots and it's fine.
  25. d**n so of you just get straight silly wth it. It sounds like you pack with the possibility of never making it back. I like to just brjng a tackle bad and some fishing poles. It seeks to work pretty good for me as long as I remember those two things.
