  1. That had to be a braid raiting. Even monster swimbait rods would probably cap out at around 30
  2. If we are talking just this year and number of fish caught. It's gotta be a size 6 xrap on a ultra light. It catches everything. You don't even have to spend a lot of time fishing it to catch 20 fish or more. Then just go right back to normal gear.
  3. I am also from NE Ohio and use craws sometimes. There are a couple missile baits ones I like. One is actually called a drop craw... The other I forget but it's telsrively slender and doesn't have big claws or flappers like a rage craw or chigger craw.
  4. They just make a ton of drag is all. You can throw those on spinning gear fine. A lot depends on the rod and what it can handle. Switching to braid will do you no favors in lessening to resistance. It will only make it worse as it has to give and you feel everything. It pulls back and the only place it can give is your rod/
  5. It would have to be a swimbait. Probably a basstrix. Maybe a big hammer and I could use or make some weedless heads. If it was a hardbait and I could make it pretty weedless or the most part then it's a s-song
  6. There is people that do. Using regular castig gear it's just a heavy dropshot bigger baits and weights usually. To fish the same setup you would use on a spinning reel you kinda need finesse reels and stuff to make it easy on your self. I don't know that everyone has those. I know I don't, but everyone does have a spinnig reel.
  7. I have no idea where I got the #40 in my head and that being on the bottle of glue I was talking about. It is not even close to that actually as I just used it today to glue rare earth magnets in some hudds. Its actually called GO2 It is not any kind of instant set like a super glue but its awesome for fishing lures.
  8. Hmm I never heard of such a thing. How do you keep it on the keeper if its inside a bottle? I could be kinda cool but I am sure it would prevent me from using the style I keeper I put on all my rods it it doesn't have that type already. I think its a dropshot keeper maybe. I know it comes on shimano rods. My old eva crucial's have it and it is so good every rod has to have those. It is the best keeper and I would think every company would want to use it. I just know it has never mattered to me. I know without a doubt I have for sure a handful of swimbaits. It is probably way more then a handful though, that is a conservative estimate. They have had hooks in the for a year or better and the hooks are good as new. Really the only downside is I end up with tons of hooks. I have crap loads because I go to rig a new bait and cant find what I wanted or I only have a couple. I need to get more then. Well look through some boxes and there is tons of them they are just still inside baits
  9. My brother actually has like this wrist hand wrap thing that velcros. He puts it around his swimbaits on the swimbait rod. those hookd are huge and the baits are heavy.
  10. Thats what I am saying. It doesnt mess with my stuff in the slightest. It's kinda silly to unrig a bait that isnt totally spent when you know you will use it again. It already has the hook you want and is good to go. I guess maybe something like a senko could do a tiny bit of damage cause of the insane salt they have. but there is no way it would be enough to compromise the integrity of my hooks. If I even came back to grab it and the hook was that bad it's probably cause I gave up fishing.
  11. Get a 9 over a 7 trust that. Same with a slammer. The 7's work but the 9's in both are better.
  12. If it wasn't a wake bait you would be alright. It will make a lot of drag and really put a load on the rod. If it was like a punker or something the weight doesn't even matter and they have no resistance. I throw 8" punkers at 3.5 oz on a GLX flipping stick rated up to 1.5 oz I think. It's a stout rod though. All it takes is a easy lob to bomb it plenty far. No need to cast like your swinging for the fences.
  13. There is good fishing around there. As to where you go is up to you though. The bay, around Catawba, you can even run up to the islands as that is usually alway a good place. Look for vegetation and boulders rocks around the shore as that is usually holding fish and some big ones. It you have the both combined adjacent to each other then even better usually.I spent the weekend at a friends cottage in Catawba about 3 weeks ago and we put a hurt on some fishing from shore. I caught a bunch workin pads and anywhere you get a break on the waves with frogs. More open water I threw tons of swimbaits and glides and also caught a bunch. That probably don't help though as I am a swimbait guy and it's doubtful you have some triple trouts and bullshooters ect. Jerkbaits are usually always good for something and so is pitching a tube and dragging it. You will figure it out but it is definitely possible to pull up with a 20# bag of snallies or large or both. Good luck.
  14. Plastics are probably the only thing that will always work no matter the day of you stick with it. It might only be 1 or 2 that whole day but they will always eat them to some extent regardless.
  15. I like to use a slower rod for not just treble baits but pretty much anything. Unless there is for some reason no other way Im going with a moderate type action. You can pick what ever rod material you like I guess but it's more about the action of it. How the rod bend and comes back when pressure is taken off. I have had plenty of heart break and it's usually right I front of you. That is where you really see what happens with a rods action. Its very rare for a fish to get off anymore literally almost never. I just reel towards them and keep the line right and turn away from them and pull as that's all it takes. I also don't play games with them and let them take drag or do laps around the boat or work them this way and that. Burn them in and the only way they can go is towards you and you are reeling fast so they are screwed.
  16. That's nonse on the TFO rod. I am sure it is a fine rod but I guarantee there is no real reason for that rod specifically. Other then they are probably a sponsor. There are plenty of pretty inexpensive rods that are very good rods you can use. I also want to say the rod they recommend for throwing the hudd gill is the hudd rod. It is designed for throwing 8" hudds and starts at 3oz and goes to like 8 I think. The hudd gill weighs something like 1.25oz so tell me how that can possibly be the best rod to use. Just saying.
  17. If what you like is the screw lock they also make them unweighted with screw locks if you didn't know. They also make obes with pins. They have a place I am sure but I haven't spent much time with them. Actually probably worms as they go a good 1" or better in the bait. Owner VMC and mustard all make hooks with adjustable weights.
  18. If they are cheap thin hooks it will probably rust them up pretty good. If you buy good strong hooks like super line hooks brand doesn't matter they should be ok. I almost never takes hooks out my self. My hooks are more then fine I leave in. Takin it out is only going to beat that bait up worse if it was still good. And guess what when I go reaching for a d bomb or a basstrix I already have one ready to go. If it did have rust it is surface rust and will wipe right off and fish don't care and I wouldn't either as long as it's sharp. I use lots of screw locks and I want to refrain from taking those out unless the bait is toast. I have a box full of every type of baits with hooks in them still. I know for a fact I have baits with hooks in them from last year that are flawless still. Tons of ribbits about a million swimjigs and probabaly two million swimbaits. I dunno
  19. Thays funny cause I have glued numerous 2 piece rods together. It get annoying when they twist or start coming apart from fishing of whstever.
  20. If it's a rod you don't own and planned to buy I would look elsewhere myself. I have yet to like a mojo anything I have used and there are better options.
  21. A mojo rig will work for sure. Really all you need is a couple split shots to make a mojo rig. There is no need for their custom weight. Really it's a split shot right pretty much that you fish like a Carolina rig. There is quite a lot of baits you could use I am more then sure. If it weighs more then 3/8 you probably want braid to rip it out of the grass when it feel bogged down. For lighter stuff I use copoly / mono and a spinning rod for the lighter line. Just pop it a bit and you can feel it stretching and it will bounce back and never get buried in the grass cause of it. I literally was just doing this today on a 1/8 oz ned rig head I customized to its not a straight open hook in a place chocked out with grass I was using 6# line It just take practice to get a feel for it.
  22. The heddon torpedo is a classic but it sucks really. The blades spin like crap and sometimes not at all if you just try reeling. Now if the blade was like a duo spin bait 90 that sound for days and with the slightest breeze it would probably be way better.
  23. Actually as far as those huddle bugs go I have never used them but I hear that kill it. I don't know why I haven't actually ever got some yet. They are really cheap as far as hudd stuff goes. You can just buy a couple pre rigged ones and then you have the proper hooks for them. I have talked to a few peole about them and never heard a bad word. No one ever talks about them though for some reason. Get a little spinning rod with some light braid or flouro and its on.
  24. Tatsu is great. I am not sure how often you change line but I have been fishing the same line the whole year and it still dosent strike me as needing changed yet and it is used more then anything. I have done plenty of changing out on other reels but not any Tatsu. I have had a couple little minor backlashes but nothing ever serious and it's still indestructible and I have never had a issue. It just lays so well and casts amazing. Anything else's would probably be a nightmare by now and backlash city from abuse. I even kinked it up really bad close to the end and fished it to see what might happen and it never broke. I only some 2-3# ers but I started rocking hook sets after a while and it still kept going. You really could do 3 reels with a spool unless you plan on cutting huge tag end off it all the time.
  25. Probably 6" hudds. The don't skip as good for me I think cause the tail is way bigger and all floppy. They all skip pretty darn good though even the 8" and might surprise some peole and fish. I meant to say the 68's don't skip as good
