  1. Something is better then nothing. If it were me chances are I wouldn't be using it cause I have a bunch more rods. Someone I was giving it to probably does not. That was the whole reason for giving it to them to begin with.
  2. Ya well a real crayfish doesn't have that much action either. Maybe a scoot or 2 backwards and they are gone under a rock or something.
  3. The backing size doesnt matter. It can though if you end up feeling the knot on a long cast. I use a little piece of tape instead. I am not casting past my knot and nothing is gonna take my drag that far either. it can also be a bummer if your using heavy line and the knot makes the reel stack to one side.
  4. I was gonna say it's probably curly leaf pond weed but I don't know about some kind of oil slick. As for copper sulfate that that isn't used to kill weeds. It stops the slime and algae not the weeds. What you want for the weeds is called Reward. Really you need to apply it as early in the year as possible. Like shortly after ice out. The weeds are there growing under the ice already. The longer you wait the more weeds grow and the harder it gets to kill them. It also can become hazardous to the fish if you were o kill the whole pond at once if it is totally covered.
  5. Really it's only a couple bucks to get tips and glue so why not. My step father has a old ugly stick that would probably benefit from cutting the tip off. I want to say it's like a 7'6" or even 8' and that thing would flop around in the wind it's so flimsy. I am actually going to replace a tip today since I can home yesterday and someone decided to put my ultralight rod wedged under the shelf in the closet. I am not really having high hopes for that one. I really like that rod too.
  6. Are they both CXX or is the 12# original? If they are both CXX go with the 12. The 17 is heavy duty and CXX is way underrated at what it actually is.
  7. Well there isn't tons of deep water where I live. There are some pockets at places that can get 20-30 feet. It's not a huge area to cover though and we don't even really have super giant lakes like other places. There is a lot of 30' deep out on Erie but I don't out to the middle of the lake and throw hudds It's actually the shallowest of the Great Lakes as it is.
  8. I haven't used any pork trailers in like 20 years I bet. I just remember being a kid and using them and never taking them off. You would think 8 year old me might learn and take them off after the first time or two. Nope that never happened. I did catch fish using them though.
  9. The tatula is good. Even a standard tatula the non HD version is a tank of a reel and can throw some lighter swimbaits. I have used them plenty of times to throw baits in the 3 oz range and they work just fine.
  10. Why would it matter? Everyone has there own preference on what they like. As long as it gets the job done for you it doesn't matter what anyone says to use or should be using. If it works for you then keep doing it.
  11. no those have a spot on the head where it come up straight vertical. I also dont see any pins on the tail.
  12. Ya i know it is repainted and needs a little work. I just happened to find it in a box of old musky lures over the weekend. Yes I know they still make them WRB but this one was kinda old so that was kinda cool. It is still a lure that would get used today and not like some old lures that is more a collectors item and not great for catching fish.
  13. I am pretty sure that is what it is but I can not be sure.
  14. I have never taken a trailer off my jigs. I guess I never thought about it much before so nothing has changed. Now if you are using a pork trailer you better take those off before they dry out and become a permanent part of the jig.
  15. I think everyone crawl the bottom with them. I dot have deeps Cali lakes that I fish and throw hudds in places that might only be 5' deep or even less at time. A lot f time a ROF 12 or something will dig to much. Even the 5's don't always want to stay down enough but I can easily add weight. Just putting a tear drop sinker on the bottom ring works great and still keep the bait in balance so it falls perfectly level.
  16. It's not always about if you can cast a 1/8 oz drop shot weight and a roboworm on your casting gear. Can you put say 10# braid on it? Or like 4 or 6# flouro. It is usually a lighter line application that normal castig gear isn't not suitable for.
  17. Ya I know I don't get it. A guy talked my brother into this eagle GT rod when he first started cause he was using braid and it has no inserts cause braid will grove other rods. I told him that's bs but it was a ok rod anyways. I did have a lews American Hero rod that I had to send back. I used braid for maybe a hour then all mono. The tip top grooved and the coating wore away and you could see the copper. It was just a bad rod to begin with and the braid was not the problem.
  18. Ya I know actually. After I posted that I was looking at one of my rods and it said way higher then I thought. I never really paid attention to it before. But really no one uses higher then like 30# anyways and I am not throwing a mother or anything like that. Honestly a few of my rods don't say anything since they are customs.
  19. Your really making it hard on your self with the ROF 16. You have to cut it open and take out some lead and its kinda a pita to do sometimes. It does help to have that picture that shows where all the lead is in the different ROF's. I would go with a 5 and nail weight it
  20. Probably because its marketed as a braid ready rod. Or it is designed for a technique where they assume you would use braid. I know for a fact if you go on TW and look at the gen 2 irod's Bub Tosh's punch rod says 40-80# or something like that in the description. Although I do not own that rod I assume it also says that on the blank. It is a rod I really debated getting for quite a while though.
  21. Thats interesting using the pill bottles. As for the velcro deal I have tons of them with the slits in them that are used for holding wires together. I will use them on my swimbait rods sometimes to hold the bait in in place by more then just the hook. They are heavy and even after you put it on the keeper and wrap your rod with the line so its nice and wont get tangled with other rods their weight alone makes them bounce around and pull away from the rod. I just leave them on the rod above the front grip and its out of the way until i need it.
  22. Well that is good to know for sure. The only rods I ever really even used that are a 2 piece are nothing special to begin with. It's also only ever a spinning rod. I don't even own a 2 piece rod that I would ever use except for a ultra light rod that I actually really like cause it's a 6'6" but still kinda a cheap rod.I guess some fly rods also but those haven't been touched in ages.
  23. Well I have a Loomis GLX that's a heavy and I think it says it's rated up to 1 ounce. That seems pretty low for a heavy. Well that's the rod I use for my 8" punkers and those weigh 3.5 ounces I think. Don't get me wrong it's heavy on the rod but it can handle it all day. I am not whipping them either but it's more of a kinda underhand flick/lob and it casts way far.
  24. Did you like just put fresh line on the reel and go fishing with it right away? Is there to much line on it. Is it really close to that mark on the spool. Like the maximum amount you can put on. If so take some off that can easily be a problem. It can also be because it's new line and maybe didn't go on entirely correct. Or it is just fresh and hasn't formed to the spool any yet those coils and memory can kinda be good sometimes and it want to stay tight on the dpool and not spring off to a different shape. I know I have had reels act finicky because there was a hair to much line or it was fresh and didn't cast the same as what wa just on there. Once it settles in a bit thogh it's not a problem. Also if you can I would try switching spools between the two and see what happens. Maybe it will give you a little insight into it.
  25. I have a Fenwick spinning rod that is a MH but it is rated 1/4-1oz so.. That's what I would consider a MHfor sure. I have casting rods that are MH and say they go up to 3/4. I don't really consider that quite a MH yet. It should be a ounce or better to be a MH to me. But there is no standard.
