  1. I use a Kistler magnesium 6'-9" MH rod and a Kistler z bone medium for my square bill cranks. Spooled with 12lb test line and they both are great rods for this application. I'll go with the MH if I'm in thicker cover. If you are only losing 15% of your fish on cranks then that's not very bad at all. Personally I would rather use my z bone medium, more flex and no worry about back bone when fighting a big fish. Good luck and good fishing.
  2. I've never used those baits before but I hear they are pretty good baits. I bought some Power Team Lures Finicky Tickler's worms a while back for drop shotting and these worms are great. I was looking for something new to try and I am amazed at the action of these baits. I am always trying new baits.
  3. I have a 7'-8" Kistler rod that is telescopic that I use for traveling. This is a great rod that I keep under the seat of my truck at all times. Go to kistlerrods.com and look for the Magnesium All Day Power Tool, that's where I bought mine......sweet rod.
  4. The Smoke is an awesome reel. Very smooth. I have all Revo's and one smoke and will probably be adding another smoke on down the road. Can't go wrong with it.
  5. I would go with the longer rod. Even go longer if this rod will be used mainly for jigs and probably go with the heavy. I have a 7'-8" Heavy Kistler rod that I use for my jigs. I like the longer rod for flipping and the heavy for pulling pigs out of heavy cover. This rod is awesome for that application. That's just me though, I just like longer rods for jigs.
  6. Fish the Tensaw delta just about every weekend and right now it's on. The delta is slowly coming back after the last Hurricane killed it. The upper Tensaw river is the hottest right now and even the middle part is catching fish. There is maps of the delta but as to my knowledge, there is no GPS maps for the delta. I got the hotspots southeast chip and it has from the old Live Oak landing north and down around the cuaseway. The middle delta is not on there, just goes blank when in that area.
  7. The Kistler Finesse Special would be my choice. I've owned this rod for several years and it works great, never have had a problem with my rod. Super light and very sensitive.
  8. Awesome customer service there.
  9. I have a 7'-6" Kistler z bone teamed up with the Revo SX with 65# braid. The z bone has all the power I need to pull the fish out of thick cover and the revo never misses a beat.
  10. Yes, Kistler rods are worth the money. The sensitivity on these rods are greater than any other rod that I have ever used. As Bird dog said, these rods are awesome. The magnesiums are great rods but the Helium will be just a little more sensitive, so if you can get them for 150 I would go for it. You should try the micro guide rods that Kistler has, very light rods with sensitivity that is unreal. Kistler rods are the only rods that I fish with now.
  11. I like the spring crawfish in the spring and fall. Fire tiger in the summer.
  12. Love the new Power Team Lures Finicky Tickler on a shakey head. Great built in scent and it has great buoyancy.
  13. Just me but I like to use scent on my crankbaits at times. Power team Lures has come out with a new scent called Hog Tonic that is some really GOOD smelling stuff. I know the crankbait is a reaction bite but I like to think that the scent is leaving a trail for the fish to follow, who knows.
  14. Stingray23, on 06 April 2011 - 12:37 AM, said: There is no "better". They are both crucial to master. X3. Both are great rods and both are needed.
  15. I am using a Kistler 7'-6" z bone and the Helium LTA for these applications and they work very well. Very light and sensitive rods teamed up with a revo and braid, can't go wrong.
  16. Below is what I like to use: Soft Plastics- 7' MH Shakey Head- 6'-6" M to ML Crankin- 7'-3" M Spinnerbait- 6'-9" MH Jigs- 7'-8" H Jerkbaits, Flukes- 7' M Topwater- 6'-9" M A lot of it is your preference.
  17. Kistler magnesium if you are looking for a light rod with great sensitivity. I own about 10 magnseiums and they are the best rods that I have ever owned. Can't beat the sensitivity in these rods and they are in your price range.
  18. I like 12# fluoro and a limber rod. Will use braid if I'm fishing around grass.
  19. Power Team Lures Texas-rig jig or the zoom chunk. Black and Blue is always true!!!!
  20. Wouldn't want to go to B'ham much myself but for Alabama, well you just can't beat it for the fishing.
  21. Power Team Lures baits have some pretty good buoyancy in all their plastics and they work. Below is something that I found on their website explaining this process: (Each of our unique designs are shot with the highest quality plastic and impregnated with our special blend of scents and salt during the injection process. By adding just the right amount of salt, we've achieved the perfect level of buoyancy which creates a tantalizing action that will help you draw strikes from even the most educated bass. Once they bite, our "special blend" keeps them holding on long after they strike giving you more time to slam back and put more fish in the boat. By complementing this with a proven line of colors, we've created a deadly combination to help you excel in any situation)
  22. there is a bass pro shop in Leeds, AL and also a Dick's Sporting Goods in Birmingham.
  23. I dropshot using a medium power rod, but as the others said, it's all preference. I use a Kistler 6'-6" medium power rod because I like the sensitivity.
  24. Just started fishing with a lizard from Power Team Lures. I like the gator tail on this lizard, the tail floats up with the nose down making for some good action. And the scent that is in these lures will also make a fish eat it.
