Spinnerbait Help
I think it's most likely there are no fish wherever you are tossing them...or if you really think about it, a spinner is just a fancy jig in my opinion, try tossing it out and just let it sink to the bottom, wait a couple of seconds and pick it up a few feet and let it fall again. On hot days when the fish are not active enough to chase a bait, this really gets their attention.

Summer Fishing
In the dead of summer when the fish are no longer shallow, or the shallow bite stops, I head for structure in the deeper parts of my lake, looking for channel bends and shelfs, my go to bait is a 3/4 oz Strike King jig with either a Rage Craw or a Lobster.

Where Would You Go?
Me personally this looks like it has a channel with some good possible structure offered especially around the 15 to 25 foot range. I noticed it also offers some cover too maybe, it's kind of difficult to see, but I like the area.

Bass And Tournament Fishing Stigma
Unfortunatly, I do not think a lot of it will ever change, at least not anytime soon, but the good news is, as long as you remain the same and we all do our best to teach others the proper way then the future will be better for the sport.

My Restoration Thread
It does not need to be on the inside at all but it would be better to stay with one theme, so you can still paint the bat wing if you wanted to and pin stripe it with a real light gray color

Trolling Motor Cutting Off
One thing you can do is to test the connector for power and ground when this happens, if you have power and ground then it's not the circut coming to the motor, that will eliminate that half of the circut, one thing that will help is to add dielectric grease to the connection to avoid corrosion, if the problem is not resolved with the connector then it is most likely in the circutry of the trolling motor, remove the covers and a lot of the wiring is exposed to see, visually inspect the wireing for any chaffing to the metal areas for a possible short to ground, if you dont see an easy fix you can contact minn kota with the number supplied on the operators manual.

My View On The Water First Thing This Morning On Smith Mountain...
Zoff, Red Earth, How do you guy's handle the boat traffic there, do you just go out for a few hours in the am then go back in the evening or do you mostly fish at night this time of year?

What Makes A Good Fishing Buddy
What makes a good fishing partner? hhmmm...Faith Hill and Sara Evens come to mind. But for serious fishing I would have to choose my younger friend, hard to believe I get along so well with someone half my age, but we sometimes pre-fish for a tournament he has entered, sometimes one day sometimes two, but when we are on the water not a word is spoken unless it has something to do with what he wants to try or a place that I want to try, we are competitive with one another, not for the size or the amount of fish, but who is going to teach the lesson and who is going to school. We are on his boat a lot so fishing at his speed is something I still need to overcome and get better at, but when I can get him to slow down a little, we actually find a lesson or two that one of us is going to teach another one, as much as I have learned from the older, wiser group of people, I enjoy learning from a younger faster group as well, and I can not think of having anyone else beside me when the heat and the pressure is on. But on the relaxing side along with the fishing, absolutly without a doubt it would be my youngest daughter, there is nothing like being with her out there, either fishing a tournament together or just fishing for fun, we always catch fish, we always brag about the better fisherman that day, oh yes, she will lay it on ya too, and thick, lol, we have not placed yet but have been close, I look forward to that day, oh yea I forgot to mention, she has outfished my younger buddy on several occassions HA! I guess the apple really doesn't fall too far from the tree after all.

How Many Lures Do You Lose?
I used to loose a lot when I first started, I was not sure what a bite felt like so I would automatically set the hook only to find it was a branch or something, fishing from a boat has helped but I still get hung from time to time and loose a lure or two about once a year. There are times when I know I am going to loose one or two, especially if I find some heavy cover with a small pocket to fish, if I know there is a great chance of loosing it, the first thing I will toss will be a soft plastic of some sort to minimise the expence of replacing a lure, thats not to say I wont throw an expencive lure into cover like that but I will try to at least get em with the plastic first.

My Restoration Thread
Sorry, all I have is a cheap paint shop on my lap top, but hopefully this will give you the general idea of what I am talking about.

My Restoration Thread
Yes, Paint the bat wing with the color you chose for the top, then pin stripe it in a neon green, the carnival flake will blend well with the vibrant or loud color of neon, either red, green, or blue neon will work for the pin stripe. Once you choose your wrap, if you choose to do so, you can also seperate the wrap into sections and allow room for a pin stripe or two to continue down the complete side of the boat, ending them at the rear.

I may have missed something here, are you wraping the sides or painting the sides?
-
My Restoration Thread
Really nice progress so far, it's looking really cool !!! As for the wrap, I would suggest loud colors since you went with a dark color base to make the boat pop out. As for graphics, it all depends on personal preference, like, do you like flames etc...and apply those to your wrap. At the keel you can do a bat wing, leaving the bottom white and bring the dark color down as far as you can and pin stripe it with like a neon green or something, like this, That way you won't have to paint anything under the boat.

Claytor Lake Any Suggestions
Well, I have to tell ya the bite was tough, really tough, I heard and talked to quite a few locals there, all were saying the same thing, they could not believe how tough it has been for the past two weeks. Sunday when we arrived and set out on the water for the first time, it took two hours for the first bite, and the afternoon only yeilded seven LMB with very little size to them, no more than 1.72 lbs. Monday morning I had one pretty decent bite out of 10 fish until around 10 am, but I lost that fish at the boat, I fixed some grub at the camper and went back out for the rest of the day and fished around Peak Creek area, I got on a bait ball and followed them into a cove late Monday evening, I pulled a couple out but still no size to them at all. Tuesday morning, my youngest daughter's boyfriend and I decided to go ahead and take part in the tournament they had there, WOW, that was a blast, We were one of the last ones to get there and I drew a #2 for launch... What a start to the tourny, it was crazy !!! I have to say there are some really good boaters over there, and some really great people, the tournament started out great, I had one on the boat when the bite seemed to just shut off, we pulled in 7 fish total with only one keeper, not only did we find fish but we could see fish, big fish too !!! Anyway, we backed off a good enough distance and made some long casts to get into the area and wouldn't you know it, only one took the bait, other than that, NOTHING !!! not on the drop shot, Senko, crank bait, frog, or anything else we used LOL. The one decent fish we did manage to land came on a spinner and went 2.95 lbs, so with the bite being so tough we decided to go for big fish...what the heck we figured why not, out of 38 boats only a dozen weighed in, we had big fish until the next to last bag weighed in with a 3.09 LMB HA HA !! oh well it was a lot of fun anyway. The rest of the week was a lot of fun in the sun, the fish were deep and we could find them on cover but no one wanted to bite, we could see males and females swimming together, it was like they were spawning, all together we caught 38 fish with the one at the tounament being the largest, and still I am without a Small mouth bass, I know hard to believe, you all have a pretty nice lake there and a lot of fun to fish, I don't know that I have ever seen a lake that had so much cover on it, it was in every cove and every little nook and cranny you could see, really nice place, and really nice people, thanx for the info!!! Here is the fish from the tourny, I hope to visit again soon.

What Would You Use In The Heat?
To me nothing beats a super spook around areas like that, make the fish come to you, or I like a top water frog across, what looks like lilly pads in the picture, but a spook at the edges and around the dock area first before I went deeper.

A Couple Questions From A Confused Fisherman
X2 I do believe in stealth though when fishing, especially from shore, clear water means you have to be slow and soft in your approach, not just at the waters edge but with the way your bait enters the water as well. Your bait needs to come to them from angle they least expect at a slow and methodical approach.
