I did see that and I was so busy watching you do that, looking for that expolsion that I completley forgot I even had a line in the water LOL !!! I have never fished either, but this year I am going to, wether we have the meet and greet there or not, I would prefer the river but i have heard both are fun to fish !!

The river or the lake ? This is another place thats at the top of my list too !!! How accessible are the ponds?

Hhhhhmmmmmmmmm, this is getting more interesting all the time, I am really liking what this place has to offer so far, and just a reminder, I don't know that you realised it but we were only in 2 1/2 feet at points, Ha Ha !! I kept sticking my rod in the water looking for depth changes and watching the mud roll out from under the boat, We had your glass pretty shallow back in Contrary Creek, are you sure glassers won't make it to where you are speaking of? Speaking of which I STILL can't believe a big one or two didn't jump on your lure back there, we were there at the right time, I should have told you to switch to a top water but I thought that spinner you had would definately attract the right attention. Oh well we will do it again sometime I hope.

So how do we address that? I had a ton of fun fishing with you but as you say I wish I had time to fish and chat with other members also, both of us were there the whole weekend, since we are so far out for next year do we plan a two day event and start from there?

Well then, how many of you have a jon boat? Traveler, is this place friendly enough that jon boats can be used or are the waters too rough?

I know what you used to do for a living, and who you worked for, I have no doubt "you know people" LOL !! Mattawomen huh? I have heard lots of good things about fishing there, I like the idea of the state park too, couple of questions though, is that tidal water? and what hazzards do we need to consider? I think with Traveler's knowlage of the place we should add Smallwood/Mattawoman to the list. Now speaking of yaks, is there a rental place nearby for safe small boats? like a john boat, yaks may not be for everyone, but in case we get a huge turn out, im thinking some of these boys and girls may want to have that option.

So are we changing the meet and greet to fishing from shore this coming year? Actually that may not be a bad idea at all, it would allow everyone to meet and talk as long as they want with each other, a lot more time for family to get involved and interact as well if they so desired. What does everyone think of something like that?

How in the world did I miss that post? I always thought the big un's were centerally located, or mostly centerally located, in the states to try to have everyone have to travel the same amount of distance or somewhat close to it. I knew Glenn lived in Washington and a cross country trip was really too much to ask, shucks a trip to Pickwick is almost that in itself. As much as I would love to see you all come to Va. my personal opinion would be that I think it to be unfair of him to have to do so. There is not a thing wrong with where you all have chosen each year, I just wish the economy was better so I could make plans to attend. Glenn, Long Mike, and others who help put these things together, I know how big of an undertaking these things are and your efforts should be applauded !

Been drinkin? I know that Claytor has a BEAUTIFUL picnic area and a ton of areas to fish from shore, Moomaw is limited shore fishing but still ample, the James, I do not know how much room to fish from shore there is, I have never been there either.

I used my first one over this past weekend, the thing about these jigs is...you won't regret it. This jig was actually given to me because the guy said it did not work for him at all, he had the right colors all I did was add a touch of chart to the skirt. I flipped mine to the back of a lay down and it did not even make it to the bottom, it was only a 4 lb'er but the fish just inhaled it and took off. I know I am going to run out of time before I can get some more of Mikes jigs but the way that jig worked, I feel it's going to be worth it !!!

Interesting, do they have a picnic area there too? I know Wayne P. last year when they had a meet and greet, told me they have campgrounds close by as well.

00 brought up a good point. The best way to avoid conflict with the Road trip is I think to keep ours either in the fall or late summer. So where would we go from there? We would like an area where we can fish from shore and take boats out as well, I myself have not fished Briery, or Sandy river, but the way I understand it Briery is not a place for glass boats, my daughter does own a V hull 14' port a jon, but it only seats three, that would put one member of my family out, it would be nice if we could figure out a place that will allow both glass and bank fishing.

LOL !!! Traveler offered me that same exact thing ... twice !!! My family loves to fish and camp together as a unit, so if I came it would be with them, but 00 I promise if I could I would. I don't think you guy's and gal's want someone like me around anyway, I have a feeling if Long Mike or Ghoti and I got to meet each other someone would have to come bail us out of the local pokie there LOL !!! I don't think any of our wives would appreciate that...I know for a fact mine wouldn't Ha Ha !!...I wonder if they serve breakfast in bed?

Off to a good start !!! Will you be bringing your family? Are you a boater or non boater? What time of year is the best fishing for each place you mentioned? I think the Potomac is good pretty much all year is it not ? I have never fished it before from a boat, so I have no clue.

Ok guy's and gals, It's time to start thinking about the next meet and greet, we had a blast with this one but we look forward to the next one, so with that being said we would like to suggest something for next year. We are thinking of doing four, one for each area of the state, North, South, East and West, and have one big one for the end of the year somewhere. What suggestions do you all have to offer and what time of year offers the best fishing for your body of water? My thoughts are, I would love to visit the Chick River sometime in this adventure next year, thats a must for me !!!!!, get together or not, the Potomac is certainly not out of the question either, Smith Mountain Lake, Buggs Island, Claytor Lake, Moomaw, Bryery Creek, just to name a few, I know there are more out there so lets hear what you have to say so we can start laying some plans out for spring. Remember we want your families to enjoy this as well so get them involved !!!! We look forward to hearing all of the suggestions so lets get going !!!! Edit : As stated we are thinking of doing 4 of these, however, right now, it is only a thought, I personally will only be able to attend one, hopefully we can make it a big one, the more info and suggestions we get the better the spot will be for the next one.
