  1. I assume this is directed at me. I was kidding, which is risky in print, I know, but I think Cart recognized it for what it was. Also, nowhere in his original post does ffi ask for recommendations so I concluded that even on the off-chance he happened to believe my post he still wasn't going to buy the reel.
  2. I'll take the position the cheapest reel you can find is the best value when it comes to spinning reels. The marginal return on your investment, in terms of value added, diminishes extremely quickly with spinning reels.
  3. The answer to your question is the Quantum Jeff Gordon Edition. Visually stunning with a 2.8 Bass Pro Shops customer rating to boot. Plus, a perpetual sale price of half-off... This debate's over.
  4. If you want to get some nice stuff, look no further than accrual accounting. Tweak the definition of an asset to, "Probable future recreational benefits owned by yourself as a result of past transactions." Now, the $200 reel you just bought is a capital asset with a useful life of 7 years and a salvage value of $25. Depreciate the reel over its useful life and your costs related to reel are only $25 per year. Your wives will never know what hit them.
  5. "i do not have a . account so i am using a friends! I am looking for someone to show me around the madison area or surrounding areas. I promise you wont be dissappointed with my looks and chemistry. Send message back to this account if interested! thanks." Your friend is a wordsmith. You should keep his relationship together at all costs as I doubt you will want to spend an evening with a girl drawn in by that proposition.
  6. I was pretty humbled to find out that certain reels are loose in Magnesium reel seats. However, after trying those reels on my Magnesiums I wasn't bothered. Aside from the reel seat issues, the rods are awesome. I have a few Heliums LTAs but will probably only buy Magnesiums from now on unless I decide to give the LTXs a try.
  7. I want to know what kind of reels are being used that duct tape is required. I don't know anyone that's ever had a problem with a Kistler reel seat.
  8. Put me down for 1 more.
  9. You don't have to get an Energy if you want something from the PT series, consider the Accurist PT. I will offer a disclaimer; however, this is by no means a recommendation.
  10. I have several Avids and like them alot. I bought my first Kistler last year and have since bought four more. I have been extremely satisified with my Kistlers and will probably never buy another St. Croix again.
  11. I can relate... I had to resist buying two.
  12. TDZs are in the bargain cave for $200. It was only a matter of time.
  13. I snap down and about 30 degrees to the left (I hold the rod in my right hand) about 90% of the time. I snap directly down when I want a more subtle presentation.
  14. Believe it or not, I actually prefer my Chronarchs over my Calais. Unless I have it dialed in perfectly, my Calais just doesn't perform as well as I'd expect. It's also heavy, noticeably heavy. I find this particularly true when I have it on a Helium. I often wonder what the point of buying such a relatively light rod is if I'm just going to put on such a relatively heavy reel. Then again, the Chronarch is by no means light (unless you're looking at mgs), only lighter. A Chronarch; however, is considerably cheaper than a Calais but, as far as I'm concerned, sacrifices little in performance and quality.
  15. A couple observations... 1) Regarding the proximity of camera crews and spectators, competing anglers are well advised to consider that their income is a function of the interest of said parties. Tournament fishermen cannot have their cake and eat it too. I do not subscribe to the notion that photographers can feasibly cover an angler from 500 yards (or even 100 since I assume 500 was an exageration). Spectators, too, have little interest in observing an angler through a spotting scope. Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it. 2) Concerning G-Man's apology, do consequences only apply if someone does not apologize? If I get a DWI and I apologize is the slate wiped clean? No.
  16. With 3.5 months left until bass season here in Minnesota, I can't help but think how nice it must be not having to know the answer to your question. There are, indeed, special rods for ice fishing. You should make a point of heading up north to try one in your life... You'll be forever thankful when "winter" rolls around in NC.
  17. I unknowingly bought a barbless chatterbait last summer. The first time it was used was by one of the partners at my firm. My career was beginning to hang in the balance when I caught number 18 and he hadn't landed a single bass. Fortunately, I finally realized there was no barb and gave him a new lure. I take an extra peek at the hook when I buy lures now.
  18. I ordered a Kistler Magnesium crankbait rod from Gander Mountain a few days ago. Interestingly, my buddy at the store recommended it over a Helium. Thus far I have only used Heliums, but apparently the Magnesiums are so impressive that they're all I'm supposed to buy from now on. For those who have used both, how do you think they compare?
  19. I like to pitch senkos. Up until now I have used a Curado 201BSF on an 7ft MF Avid, my rig for next season is a Chronarch 51mg on 7ft MF Kistler Helium. I plan to drop my line down to 10lb XT.
  20. This past season I was forced to utilize all of my patience tolerating a Quantum 861PTxm that would intermittently squeak on both the cast and retrieve. While playing with the reel the other night, I isolated the source of said squeak to the cast control knob. All else equal, the squeak would come and go depending on how I adjusted the cast control. Seems like the reel needs some oil somewhere. However, I have never read anything about oiling the cast control. Has anyone run into anything similar? Please advise.
  21. Out of curiosity, is there any evidence to back up the notion of ripping treble hooks from the mouth of a fish? Perhaps I am not visualizing the process correctly, but it seems to me that the risk of ripping free a hook would, in fact, be mitigated by two additional hooks. Also, how does one, after setting the hook, differentiate between a strike that is simply missed and a hooked fish that has had the hooks ripped from its mouth?
  22. As painful as poorly constructed resumes are, is it necessary to call out the poster on his own post (particularly when the poster is a kid)? If one is inclined to offer constructive criticism, why not send the poster a PM? Finally, while much of the criticism I see offered on people's posts is well meaning, in other cases the critic just seems to be bragging about his success in getting a sponsor.
  23. Inspired by my enjoyment of the Chronarch 51mg (Cullman Outdoors can't be beat), I picked up a Chronarch 100mg from my local outfitter for $200. I consider it a steal. Would I have been better off to just watch ebay?
  24. I use the AC70MF for senkos and I love it. In fact, I love all my Avids. Having said that, I'm only buying Kistler Heliums from now on.
