  1. Hint: It's lighter and much colder than that stuff you're currently walking on. Hurry back home and see for yourself. Cheers, GK
  2. Ronnie, great job on the site. Nice layout, easy to use. Thanks to all the other guys who helped, also. Note: if you feel the need to make any tweaks, please note that Mrs Ghoti found at least half the stuff you credited to me. Cheers, GK
  3. Had a brand new Rapala that would not run true. Tried everything, nothing worked until I removed the hooks. It now runs perfectly true.
  4. I like just about any full flavored beer. If it says lite or light, or something like that, on the bottle, it ain't beer. I don't know what it is. I just know what it ain't. For regional brews, Boulevard, out of Kansas City, makes several fine beers. I'm partial to their Pale Ale. Their Unfiltered Wheat and Porter are also very good From Minneapolis comes Summit. I've only had the Wheat and the Pale Ale. Both were excellent. For more widely available beers; Sam Adams ( never met a S.A. I didn't like ), Sierra Nevada, Flying Dog brewery are a few I buy on a regular basis. Almost always have some Guiness around the house. We drink a lot wine with dinner at the Ghoti house. I won't get started on that. I don't do too many mixed drinks. Mojitos, old-fashions and margeritas are about it for me. I prefer my spirits unmixed. Favorite spirits; Cognac, top of the list for me, Remy XO Johnny Walker, Gold and Blue label Bernheim Wheat whiskey, a new favorite Gentleman Jack Daniels, an old fave Bushmills Black label Irish whiskey, been drinking this since I was 15 I'd better stop here, or you all will be thinkin I'm a drunk. Cheers, GK
  5. I have the 6'9" medium-light baitcasting model. It was on sale for 80 bucks at BPS in St Charles. Got it paired up with a Johhny Morris reel, loaded with 10lb test XL. This is the best BC rig I own for the lightest of baits. I use this combo for unweighted super flukes, 1/8oz spinnerbaits, 1/16oz jigheads and the smallest crankbaits. The tip is very soft, so it will load well enough to easily cast the lightest baits I regularly use. It has enough backbone to snap ten pound test line, with a nice fish on; which I discovered. my mistake; didn't have the drag set properly. I've used this combo nearly every time out for the last two seasons. Here's what I think about it. The guides are top notch. No problems at all with them or the wrappings. The real seat is better than the best Fuji seat. I'll probably get some flack about that, but I'm positive about it. Very comfortable and secure. The cork handle appears to be holding up very nicely, and the goofy hump fits my hands just right. The rod is light in the hand, with a nice crisp action. The soft tip transitions smoothly into some surprising backbone. Sensitivity is excellent for a rod in this price range. Are there better rods out there? Of course there are. No argument from me on that. Are there better rods out there for 80 bucks? Now, I'll argue with you. Bottom line; I'd buy another one. In fact, I'd buy another one of these before I'd buy another Johnny Morris Signature Series rod. I have one of each, and I'll take the Pro Finesse rod first. I have more rods and reels than I can carry around. This combo is one that always goes with me. Try one, you just might like it if you're a light bait kind of guy. If you don't like it, they'll take it back. The only thing I'd suggest is trying one out in the store first, if you have small hands. I can see that large grip being a problem for some. Cheers, GK

chilli gas may make the stars sparkle around your house, bu they've been known to remove wallpaper around mine.
  8. Morris and his wife Esther went to the state fair every year, and every year Morris would say, "Esther, I'd like to ride in that helicopter. Esther always replied, "I know Morris, but that helicopter ride is fifty dollars, and fifty dollars is fifty dollars." One year Esther and Morris went to the fair, and Morris said, "Esther, I'm 85 years old. If I don't ride that helicopter, I might never get another chance." To this, Esther replied, "Morris that helicopter is fifty dollars, and fifty dollars is fifty dollars." The pilot overheard the couple and said, "Folks I'll make you a deal. I'll take the both of you for a ride. If you can stay quiet for the entire ride and not say a word, I won't charge you! But if you say one word, it's fifty dollars." Morris and Esther agreed and up they went. The pilot did all kinds of fancy maneuvers, but not a word was heard. He did his daredevil tricks over and over again, but still not a word. When they landed, the pilot turned to Morris and said, "By golly, I did everything I could to get you to yell out, but you didn't. I'm impressed!" Morris replied, "Well, to tell you the truth, I almost said something when Esther fell out, but you know, fifty dollars is fifty dollars."
  9. Bug spray of any kind is the best way I know to turn your fishing lures into fish repellers. Put it on, if you really need it, and WASH YOUR HANDS before you handle any of your gear. Cheers, GK
  10. I started exprimenting last years with different lines for different applications. By the middle of this year I had a dozen different rods with about eight different kinds of line. That's when I decided the madness has to stop somewhere. I bought 3000 yd spools of Triline XL in 10 and 12 for my baitcasters, and 1000 yd spools of the same line in 6 and 8 for my spinning rigs. XL is the champ when it comes to smooth handling. I use the same line for everything, except my crankbait rigs. For those I use Sufix Elite. That clear green color is very hard to see in the water, and I like that for cranks. Out of all the lines I tried out last year, Elite is the only one I'll be buying more of; besides XL, that is. It handles almost as well as XL. If I could see it as well, I'd probably use it for everything. I like to be able to watch my line for most of my fishing, and Elite is too hard to see. At least it is for me. Just my 2 cents worth. Cheers, GK
  11. Hey Lee, check your PM's. Cheers, GK
  12. I'll be in Orlando for a week early in January. Anybody have any info on boat rentals, small lakes to fish, etc? I may do a guided trip one day. I'd prefer to get a small boat, on a small lake, on do it on my own. Thanks for any info. Cheers, GK
  13. I did that about ten years ago, or so. The son and I did it while my wife was at work. She came in the door and said " Oh, good. You guys decorated the tree. Thanks" It took her about half an hour to notice what we did. I thought at first that this was not going to well received, but she stared at it for a minute or so, and then started laughing. The only problem was getting all those cranks, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, etc, unhooked from that tree after it was all dried out. That sucked bad enough, I never did it again.
  14. That's something I've experimented with, but I can't seem to get a trap to run straight with the BB's removed. How did you do it, if you don't mind me asking? Cheers, GK
  15. From a guy who makes a lot of baits, that's a good endorsement. You just changed my mind. I was gonna wait until they came out with the donut flavored inserts to go with them. Cheers, GK
  16. Dr Ghoti recommends four ounces of Remy XO, taken three times a day until the symptoms disappear.
  17. Loomis, I like Reel Butter oil and grease. You can order both from BPS. I've only started using it this late season, so I can't tell you if it lasts as well as some of the others. The oil is very low viscosity, so I'm guessing that the spool bearings will need to be cleaned and relubed every few weeks. That's something I do anyway. The grease is very sticky, and I'd say that from the looks of it, it will last for at least a year. By the end of next year I'll have a better idea. Cheers, GK
  18. 5bass, try some dishwasher liquid detergent. I keep a bottle, it's green, I don't remember the brand, on hand for tough cleaning jobs. I don't know what's in that stuff, but it will remove stains that other products won't put a dent in.
  19. Micropterus, that was an excellent review. A balanced side by side comparison from a man who owns and uses both. I'd really like to see more of this when these type of questions arise. Well done, sir. Cheers, GK
  20. Reel Mechanic will be along shortly to give you the professional's view. Here's the quick version; grease on the gears, oil for everything else. And a little goes along way. Don't overdo it. I have several PT's, and every one of them had way too much grease applied. One more tip. Don't mess with the IAR bearing. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I have two nice reels in my collection that I bought really cheap from a guy who overlubed the IAR bearing to the point it quit working. He thought the reels were trashed. They weren't. If you haven't purchased any hot sauce yet, give some consideration to Reel Butter oil and grease. I switched over this year, and all of my reels are noticeably smoother. The down side is you'll have to do a complete tear down to be able to clean out all the hot sauce. Not a bad idea to do that once a year anyway. Cheers, GK
  21. man, all you guys are apparently full of poop

Any Bill Engvall fan knows that that's a dorkfish
  23. hey, try that lipless crank attached to the spinnerbait arm you posted in the tackle section.
  24. bass109, I've caught more longnose on a spinnerbait run just under the surface than all other baits combined. But that's warm weather. Don't know about winter. I can count on one hand the number I've caught in winter months. You've got me thinking about now. Cheers, GK
