thanks david, i have a buddy who owns both the rods and he said i could try them out. you were speaking about the 805 punch and i was lucky enough to get a sweet deal on a 805 flip/punch and i threw frogs on it today on a local pond and i liked it wayyy better than i thought.

do you know what frogs would be on the light side? i usally throw spro,bobbys perfect,hoppers,boze,and river2sea.

david: does the 736 still have that soft tip to properly walk to frog? also i dont want it feeling like a broomstick.

i want to upgrade from my current frog rod which is a Diawa L&T frog rod. i really want something that is balanced so i can fish comfortable all day. i currently have 3 dobyns rods now and i am trying to slowly convert to all dobyns rods. i love the way they feel, and how balanced they are! the models i am looking at right now are: 1. dobyns champion 735c 2. dobyns champion 736c 3. dobyns champion extreme 745c 4. dobyns savvy 735c im stuck on the 2 champions cause they have different ratings. i will be fishing mostly golf course ponds that are mostly cheesed over and other lakes with the same structure. i tend to go to the delta quite a bit to. is the 736 a broom stick? i like a soft tip so i can walk the frog easy but still have that backbone to horse them out of the slop. if anyone has any of these rods or all of them and would like to give me your 2 cents please do! thanks!

Have any of you guys been there? Im wanting to make a drive up there but limited to shore access only. I was wondering if the fish are holding more to riprap, tules, deepwater, ect. what would be the good tides to fish on? I really wanna test out a couple of my new dobyns extreme on those hard fighting largies! lol so if anyone has any good info that would help me it will be much appreicated! And i usally fish around whites slough and brannan island. thanks!

going to be needing a rod for: wacky senkos shakeyheads darterheads ikas ect... which of the above models would suggest for these techneics? i already have the 7'2 cruical for dropshotting, and ive herd that the dx742sf feels somewhat like it?? if anyone who has them or fished them please let me know. thanks!

my buddy owns the champion 734 and he loves it for jigs,texas rigs,small swimbaits,spinnerbaits, and buzzbaits. ive fished it a couple times and it does feel good. but i think youd be happy with the savvys. i like a longer rod for better hooksets,leverage,casting distance, ect. im 6'4" so tht plays a role in it.

i know it works on split grips, but can it work on EVA foam handles? In that picture it looks like theres plastic under the rod grip? (like what comes on a new rod before you take the plastic wrapping off). I just dont wanna waste money on a couple if i cant use them on EVA foam. so yeah thanks for the replys though

saw these on *** and was wonering if they can fit on foam? (shimano cumara) i know they work for cork but i think they would killer on my cumara setup. anyone used them? are they even worth it? thanks

i just got into punching, and its by far my favorite technique! what ive found out that it helps a ton if you have a long rod. i just picked out bubs irod and im really liking it. but anyways i usally just pitch it out and follow the bait down all the way cause they will smash it on the fall. then if they dont take it on the fall i usally let it sit for about 5-10 sec then jig it and shake. if i dont get hit or a fish ill pitch to another spot. good luck!

Well I fished egg harbor in the morning and got a total of 8 smallies. Mostly small but did manage to get one close to 4lbs. All on dropshot and tubes. After, I ate lunch then headed to fishcreek and that's when the storms hit me hard! I got completley soaked, but did manage to get 3 smallies all on dead sticked zoom finesse worms dropshotted. Again I'm going out tomarrow. Tell you how it goes. The bite seems to be on in the harbors!

Thanks guys for the info. I didn't state it in my original post but Im Gunna be fishing from docks and jettys. I got 5 smallies up to 3lbs on tubes,dropshot,and shakeyheads. All fish were about 15-20ft deep. Going out tomarrow let you know how it goes.

Has anyone fished there for smallies recently? I'm going up there in a couple days and would like to know what baits your gettin them on, how deep they are. Ect Thanks!

okay cool i will do that. and yeah i love the stx! last rod i had in mind which i didnt mention was the dobyns 766. im 6'4 and i can handle the 805 pretty easily. i just mentioned the 766 cause my local tackleshop runs out of the 805 quite often.

thanks david for the quick response. i will be punching heavy cover on the delta. and some of the bay area lakes. so i think the 805 will work better. i dont drive so i wouldnt be able to get to walnut creek but thanks! what reels do you like on the 805?

Going to be getting a punching rod and have narrowed it down to 2 rods. 1. dobyns champion 805 flip/punch. 2. Dobyns extreme 795 flip. I know the extreme has better sensitivity but is it that much better than the 805? I will be punching heavy mats. And ill be fishing from shore. If tht makes a difference.I would like to know about each rod and whicg onw would be better suited for me? Thanks!
