  1. Nothing wrong with your setup, you're good. You got some good info. Tip... One of the biggest mistakes people make when fishing a bait thats designed to be worked by a somewhat constant retrieve, is thier rod position. Don't know of course, but I'll bet you're holding rod at about 2:00 or 3:00 to retrieve. Think about it... You're winding and winding, you feel a tug, you wait a 1/2 second or just pull and you have nothing. Why? You pulled it away from the fish, or took it out of it's mouth. As Rolo said, the fish will almost hook themselves, but you can't pull it out and expect to get hooked. If you want to keep doing a sideways retrieve, then at least have the presence of mind to set with a more straight up set. Mike
  2. Exactlly right! I'd put my discontinued Fenwick Techna AV up against any current production rod made. Call me uninformed and not technically advanced if you want. And yes I may get my but kicked...but then again maybe not Mike
  3. Mama is a smart lady Mike
  4. If you keep gettimg bit short, or hit without with a hook up, consider adding a trailer hook. I personally don't throw a spinnerbait without one. Mike
  5. Huh... Sometimes when a simple question is asked you guys get so wound up in your effort to help, the unscientific less educated of us (which may only be me) just has to sit back and admire the education and knowledge some of you have and just keep reading. I've learned a few things reading these 3 pages that I never expected to. OP...I can't add much to the discussion, but to say... Go grab a freakin rod, tie something on, and throw it in the water...You'll know soon enough. Mike
  6. Palomar for braid SDJ for any floro/co poly (Don't use mono) UNi to uni for joining 2 lines. None improves any presentation I throw. They just hold Mike
  7. I tried some Seagar Kanzen one time took it off, put the original Power Pro back on and there it stays. Mike
  8. Ain't it the truth... Mike
  9. A few of mine that I still use have already been said.... Sluggo, Pop R and Bomber A. Others that I use are the Scum Frog and yes an underspin jig head that after the Classic is finally getting it's due. Mike
  10. I thought I was the only one... ;] Mike
  11. I currenty have the O rings on 3 different colors of stick baits (dont use Senko's) ready to go in my "stick bait" box. They've been there for almost 6 months...they"re still soft and smell good. Don't worry about it, you're good. Mike
  12. I only use the TK 130 for punching and very heavy cover. IMHO they are the Best hook for those presentation's. All others get the Gammy or Owner Mike
  13. No, If I've never thrown any floro before I would not pay the extra for the "top of the line" stuff like Tasu, Shooter and Sniper until I've used other good, quality but less expensive lines. There's a leaning curve over mono that you'd be best served to get comfortable with, given your style and intended use. The "middle of the road" lines like P Line, Invisex, or maybe even the top BPS brand would give you a better idea if floro was something you'd want to stick with. Then if funds allow you can try one of the other more expensive lines and go from there. Mike
  14. Love it when I hear about a Dad or Granddad taking thier girls fishing!!! Go Get her a couple big un's! Mike
  15. Well in comparision between the 2 lines, I can tell you from my experience with both but in heavier test ratings (min 12#) that Invisex will hold a SDJ or the no name knot better than any floro I've used. Sniper doesn't kink as much and has a little less stretch, somewhat better sensativity, casts a bit farther and littler smoother. The breaking strength of both is comparable, but I think Sniper is a more durable line. Now, maybe on the thinner lines that you're asking about the lines are vastly different. I just thought Maybe I could help anyway. Mike
  16. I fish a lot of things that way also. Most notably a chatterbait and really any type of bottom oriented plastic. Mike
  17. Exactlly right... Keep that in mind every outing, and every place you fish going forward. Hardly any big fish I've ever caught was on the first cast with the first bait I had tied on. It took me a long time to accept the fact that to be successful I had to first learn to be ready to Improvise, Overcome and Adapt to what they're telling me. Sometimes it can become clear right away, but most times it doesn't. Mike
  18. I use a 7ft Phenix X11 composite rod, JM sig reel spooled with 12# Yo Zuri. As my dedicated crank setup. Mike
  19. Honey Candy Cut R's, June Bug Magnum Speed Worms...For now Mike
  20. Yes, Thank You I have a B.A.S.S. Nations team tournament out of Scott Driver on Sunday. My boater teammate mentioned he wanted to run to Moonshine, if there's a bloom in Uncle Joes hopefully it stays confined there. Mike
  21. Thought's You ask... Nah, don't ask Mike
  22. When he says to hold on, he means it! Mike
  23. Start working out now! Mike
  24. As I said I don't use these enough, so I have a question... Do you have more success rigging vertically and swimming it? Or Rigging horizontal? Thanks Mike
