could use some recommendations on waders
They are pricey, but they will take care of you. Read up on the warranty. Also Jackson Hole is about an hour from me... fun town, and lucky guy. Off topic.. does he guide on the snake? To be honest I am not sure. I know he fishes the Snake and all around the Palisades. Last I spoke he was guiding for a private outfitter. I am not sure if they have their own stretch of water or what.

Do all rods have this?
*goes to take the rods out of my car I never knew that heat could affect a rod like that. I have not noticed any bending, but I guess I will check now

could use some recommendations on waders
I don't know how deep your pockets are, but if you want a pair of waders you can hand down to your kids someday go with Simms. If you want a pair that your kids can hand down to you grand kids then go with the Simms G4Z... Here is a link.. http://www.simmsfishing.com/site/g4_guide_stgft_wader_2007.html# I am exaggerating a little with them being a family heirloom. But one of my good friends is a full-time fly fishing guide in Jackson Hole, and he and his co-workers swear by those things.

good spincast for kids?
When I was about 4 I caught a 4 1/2 pounder on my Mickey Mouse Zebco. I don't really remember it, but my dad says he had to dive in after the pole when the fish snatched it out of my hands. It may just be a coincidence, but I think he picked up a few packs of pink worms for the tackle box after that day.. This story really has nothing to do with the thread... I just felt like sharing. Go with the spincast or omega. You can't go wrong with those.

The best knot for leaders....
The Alberto is working fine, thanks. Yea I hear ya... The sebile works great though for tying significantly larger diameter leader line to your smaller diameter braid such as you would in some offshore applications. You wouldn't want to have to fold over 90# leader line
-
The best knot for leaders....
If you are really worried about knot diameter tie this bad boy.. Knot part starts at 1:14 or so if you wanna skip to it Otherwise I say stick with the Alberto since it is a lot easier to tie

Red line
This is a good article on everything related to bass vision. I am a biology major, but I think this article does a good job of using terms that everyone can understand. The author is a Fisheries Biologist in Texas. http://www.bradwiegmann.com/fish-biology/39-fish-biologist/119-characteristics-of-largemouth-bass-vision.html

Red line
Water, like any transparent medium scatters light waves. Water filters out red light waves very quickly. At 15' red turns to gray. Red filters out to a lesser degree at shallower depths starting at 5'. These depths can vary drastically on the depth of the water though. The reason you can still see the red on hooks and lures is that they reflect light as opposed to absorbing it. Oh... and its all about marketing and advertising

Thoughts about the Diawa Fuego Baitcaster?
Thanks for the input fellas... For that price I think I have to pull the trigger.

Thoughts about the Diawa Fuego Baitcaster?
I was looking at picking up one of these in the baitcaster version and wondered what opinions people might have. I am getting it for a little over 100$ so that plays into the deal as well. I plan on primarily throwing top water stuff with this reel. I was also looking for a good general purpose top water rod to pair it with. Not looking to throw anything huge.. just some frogs, sammys, poppers, and the like.

Dropshot Spinning or Casting
For me it is a weight and depth thing. If I am casting lighter weights(1/8) or going deep(15ft+) then I prefer the spinning. I think the feel is a little better with spinning gear and the more vertical presentation. For my spinning rig I have a Pflueger Supreme matched up with a Carrot Stix drop shot rod (CLTX721MHDS). I usually go with the bc if am going heavier than 1/8 and looking to do a more horizontal presentation in shallow water. For me I like being able to have a little more pinpoint casting control from the bc to get that worm right up against a brush edge, or whatever else I may be casting at. I also agree with Dwight about being able to set the hook quicker on the drop, which is even more relevant in shallow water. For my bait casting set up I have a Pflueger Patriarch matched up with a Daiwa Cielo (TDCEL661WJ).

general reel question i 'spose.
I will first start out by saying that I am not familiar with that particular reel, but suppose the oil is a possibility. Another thing I would suggest is to strip it back down it and put it back together wish a schematic of that reel handy. Usually there is a copy in the box or online somewhere. Sometimes no matter how careful you are there is a spacer that gets flipped backwards or a piece not put back in the right order that makes all the difference. Just my .02... good luck getting it sorted out.

Need a new drop-shot rod
That thing looks sweet. If I had the coin, or the need for a new drop shot I would be all over that thing. You might also wanna check out the daiwa cielo. They are still on sale at TT for 124$ and I LOVE mine for drop shotin.

Spinning Set Up
I have been very satisfied with my Carrot Stix LTX drop shot rod. I don't usually go as light as 1/8, but I have had no sensitivity problems at 3/16. I use it for drop shot almost exclusively, but I have been very pleased the few times I have had shakey heads on it. The tip is pretty soft and I can shoot that thing pretty much wherever I want it. As far as braid goes I just tie on a floro leader.... not one fish I have talked to has complained

Rod for Calcutta 400B??
My first reaction when thinking of a rod to pair with the Calcutta 400B is something like this And I am not gonna lie...I think your dead on when you say this isn't the right reel for then job if cod, haddock, and pollock are your targets. However, I certainly understand how you sometimes have to make a good deal fit your situation. It seems to me that the going "custom" is a lot more common with cod rods and the like. From that standpoint I would suggest the Seeker CS 909 blank since it is good for bait and jigs. However, if you want to go retail I would suggest looking at the Tallus series of rods from Shimano as well and particularly the TLC-70MA http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_59419_151002003_151000000_151002000?channel=froogle&mr:trackingCode=481369AF-03A7-DF11-904F-002219319097&mr:referralID=NA Not sure how you go about your fishing of this sort, but if your doing it from a party boat... the standard man rule is in order.... The longer the better...rod that is ;D

Shakey Head Jig
I like the Picasso in the football head version myself... but if Bass Pro is your only option then go with these and some Roboworms http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_89935_100010006_100000000_100010000_100-10-6
