What Cumara for ShakyHead??
I know I want at least the 7'2" length but what power/action would be ideal for 1/16-1/8 shakyhead jig. Please limit replys to Cumara owners only. Not being peculiar it's just that the Cumara series doesn't follow the normal logic of powers/actions. Thanks

Need advice from someone that owns a chronarch and a curado?
When you get your first Cumara you will be thinking, "Man, why did I get the new reel when I could have had another Cumara?" I am about to buy my fourth Cumara and two Curado 50E's. Now all of my combos will be CuradoE/Cumara. I would love to have Core's on my Cumara's but Core's don't detect light bites.

trilene knot
Google knot wars. It is a tv segment that tests the breaking strength of about every knot I can imagine. They test the knots on mono, flouro, and braid. It shows you how to tie each knot as well. Pretty cool show if you ask me.

Chronarch spool shaft bearing...
I have an older Chronarch 100 that needs a new bearing on the spool shaft. It was bought new in the mid to late 90's. Not sure if "spool shaft" is what it's called but it's the bearing on the shaft running through the spool. Do I just need to remove the pin going through the shaft that keeps the bearing on?

Which Crankbait above the weeds?
Mann's Baby 1's have always ran a little deeper than a foot for me. Mann's does however have a wake bait that runs no deeper than 4". IMO you have to run it too fast to reach 4 inches. I like the Lucky Craft RC 1.5 or 2.5 Wake. It has a jointed back and feathered treble on the rear and can go sub-surface easier than the Mann's.

Walking the dawg...
When walking a topwater lure like a LC Gunfish or Paycheck Repo Man should you do a stop and go presentation? A slow, steady one? A fast one? I know alot of you are going to say do what works best for me but I want to know what you do.

Reel seat issue on Dobyns...
I think I'll stick with my Dobyns and Cumaras. Teflon tape is a great idea. Won't hurt a thing.

Reel seat issue on Dobyns...
I think it was just a high spot on the threads or something because it stayed tight all day yesterday and this morning. I caught sixteen on it yesterday and seven today including a spot that weighed one ounce under 5lbs....that was one mean fish.

Reel seat issue on Dobyns...
I'm so ready to sing some Rammer Jammer! Probably won't be singing it 14 times this year but we'll be just fine. Roll Tide!

Curado E7 or E5 stock drag resistence?
How about this? I learned that although I don't need any extra drag power, I can upgrade to CarbonTex and have a smoother drag system on my E5.

Reel seat issue on Dobyns...
Well, I'm not a Crimson Tide Offensive Line sized guy but I have a decent grip. Yes, I have tightened it as tight as I can without putting the old vise-grips on her. Maybe it has become a non-issue....it gave me no problems today. We'll see. Maybe it just needed to be broken in.

Reel seat issue on Dobyns...
I keep having to tighten up the reel seat on my Dobyns. My rods are never treated poorly, not subjected to any kind of vibration. I had to tighten it twice in one hour the other day...never had this problem with any other reel seat. Anyone else had this problem?

Shimano Rods
One of my fishing partners has about as many Phenix rods as I do Cumaras and I've fished with most of them. Nice rods but they don't make Cumaras feel tip heavy.

Vicious Fluorocarbon Line
Yes, fc will make you run deeper. There are far too many variables to know exactly but I would say you can get a couple of feet deeper. I have not used Vicious myself but have heard it's pretty good fc for the money. I checked into it and what turned me off was the diameter to test ratio. It's a little too big for me. X2 on the Seaguar Abrazx or Invizx...good stuff man

Shimano Rods
I haven't found any of the Cumara's to be tip heavy, other than the 7-11 MHeavy Xfast. Are you fishing them with a dime size reel with 3 yards of mono on em? Seriously though, I haven't had thta impression on any of them. X2

Shimano Rods
Sorry for being so long-winded here. I was in the market for some new rods this season so I went on my annual rod hunt. I have a little different way of feeling a rod's sensitivity than others. I carry a small spool of line in my pocket and a tiny Leatherman with scissors. First, I cut a piece of line about a foot longer than twice the length of the rod. Then, I tie one end to the hook keeper and run the other end through all the guides. Last, I pull the line back down to the hook keeper (just like a lure) and tie that end also. If it's not tight just grab the line halfway up the rod and rotate the rod once or twice wrapping the line around the rod. Now, instead of sitting there tapping the tip on a display rack I can tap the line on it instead and get a more realistic idea of how sensitive the rod will be when a fish "taps" my line. I know, I know...I get some strange looks it takes alot more time but I feel it's warranted when spending $220+ on each of my rods. I did this to every high end rod I could find and the Shimano Cumara was my choice. A couple were as sensitive but not as comfortable. Cumulus was not out yet

New to finesse/shaky technique...
Steve-I agree with you 100% about an ultra sensitive rod being top priority. However, I really don't like this Daiwa I am using. The bail wire seems to be angled further than normal or was bent when I bought it. Gave $12 for it at a discount store so it may have been damaged. No, the Dobyns rod I have isn't anywhere near my Loomis or Cumaras but it's alot better (for me) than any other rod for $150 I have picked up. Dodge-I also have often heard that pro's use a little larger reel with flouro. That's why I asked on here. I was thinking buy the smallest reel I can get away with for weight savings but can a smaller reel handle a 7lb+ bass? I had some drag issues with my pfluegers so I think I'm going to stick with Shimano. Thanks

Shimano 50E
I have owned just about every single (from the Citica up) baitcaster Shimano has pumped out over the last fifteen years, with the exception of DC models and round reels. I'm not a rich man but I spend when necessary, save when I can. I don't pay much attention to price tags but focus more on comfort, balance, weight, slop/play etc. Imho the Curado 50 over the Core 50 is one of the few exceptions where you can save a substaintail amount of money and get a close to equal product. Just my 2 cents...

Where is all the Pfleuger and Quantum??
I can echo the above statement. My quarry are snook, tarpon, jacks and barracuda and these fish are powerful. I have had no trouble with my supreme 35, Abu soron 40, stradic fi 4000 and Quantum Cabo 30. The stadic may be smoothest but not best in field, I give that honor to the Cabo, but it's on the heavy side. My hands down favorite is my soron 40. This being said, the rod is more important than the reel, most of the reels will do a more than adequate job. Forgive me for stepping on this thread but Sirsnook would you mind going into a little more detail about the Stradic not being best in field? I am about to order a new Stradic CI4 and would like to know any negative feedback you might have on it.

Alright...2500 seems to be the consensus so a Stradic CI4 2500 it is. Thanks!

Action for soft plastics
Huh, I must be all kind of mixed up then because for 18 years everytime I've felt tap tap tap, set the hook, and landed the fish they sure have looked like bass to me. Anyone have a picture so I can be sure?

New to finesse/shaky technique...
I recently started using a shaky setup. I decided to not break the bank with my first rig, at least until I knew if I would use it much. I grabbed a Daiwa Regal 2000-4i out of my closet that I found at an outdoor shop clearance sale for $12 and bought a Dobyns Savvy 6'9" Med/Light. I am more than happy with the rod for now but I would like a better reel for sure. That new Pflueger Patriarch Mag is looking pretty sweet. The Stradic CI4F (red and black one)is also on my radar. That being said....what size reel do I need?
